Product availability, licensing terms, pricing, and included add-ons can differ by country, so check the store for your own PlayStation Network region before paying. A disc copy of the PS4 game likewise depends on having a PS5 model with a disc drive; a digital-only PS5 cannot read a physical PS4 disc.

There is no confirmed native PS5 product page yet
A report published by WorthPlaying on October 12, 2026 says Arc System Works announced a PS5 version in development. The report names rollback netcode, PC cross-play, four additional text languages, and changes to Training Mode. The official Centralfiction pages reviewed so far do not give a launch date, price, SKU, edition contents, or upgrade route. You should therefore distinguish between the available PS4-compatible game and a future PS5 release that has been reported but not commercially documented.

It offers more than online matchmaking
Arc System Works describes the console release as a “2D fighting game + visual novel.” The documented package is built for one or two players and includes a story campaign, training, and local fighting modes. Those activities do not depend on finding a large online population or on having the newest netcode. If your priority is learning characters, completing the narrative, or playing on the same console with another person, the PS4 edition’s PS5 compatibility is enough to make it relevant.
Training is particularly important for a technical fighting game. You can practice movement, attacks, defensive responses, and match-up routines without paying for a separate mode or waiting for an opponent. The reported native PS5 version is also said to add Training Mode features, but those changes are not part of the confirmed PS4 listing.

Local play avoids the biggest uncertainty
Local versus play is the safest reason to buy the existing version. It uses the console and controller setup you already have, and it is not affected by the lack of a confirmed PlayStation rollback implementation. The official product information identifies the console release as supporting one to two players; it does not promise a particular number of simultaneous local players beyond that.

The story remains a complete reason to own it
Because Centralfiction combines fighting with visual-novel presentation, it can be approached as a single-player game rather than solely as an online service. If you are interested in the BlazBlue story or want a substantial campaign before entering competitive matches, the PS4 release provides that use case on PS5 even while the status of a native build is unsettled.
Existing owners have a low-risk test
If you already own the PS4 game digitally or on disc, trying it on PS5 is more straightforward than buying an unconfirmed future edition. Start the existing copy, test the modes you care about, and then decide whether a later native release would add enough value to justify another purchase. Do not assume that a future PS5 version will be a free upgrade; no official upgrade policy has been published in the available pages.
Where the PS5 version is a weaker proposition
Online features are the central caveat
Arc System Works’ January 31, 2022 rollback announcement says the rollback update arrived on Steam on February 1, 2022. The announcement is explicitly scoped to Steam. It does not establish rollback for the PS4 game played on PS5, so you should not purchase the PlayStation listing on the assumption that it has the same online technology as the PC version.
Player-population evidence is not available
The official network information describes ranked and player matches but supplies no current PlayStation player-count data. A storefront rating also cannot answer whether you will find opponents at your preferred time or skill level. The Canadian PlayStation Store page currently displays a global rating of 4.63 out of 5 from 4,711 ratings, accessed in 2026; that figure can change and is a customer-rating signal, not an independent performance study or a population measurement.

Compatibility warnings should be taken literally
The Store’s warning that some PS4 features may be absent is deliberately broad. It does not identify which feature is affected, and the available official pages do not provide a complete PS5 compatibility matrix. If a particular legacy function matters to you, test it during the Store refund period applicable to your region or confirm its behavior before buying a physical copy.
Online play on PlayStation: what the official pages say
PS3 and PS4 network compatibility
Arc’s console network-mode page documents battles between the PS3 and PS4 versions. It also says that online battles on PS4 require an active PlayStation Plus subscription. The page identifies ranked and player matches, but it does not describe a PS5-native client, rollback netcode, cross-play with PC, or present-day matchmaking health.
Do not transfer Steam’s rollback claim to PlayStation
The Steam rollback update is a useful reference for the PC edition, not proof about the backward-compatible PS4 build. If low-latency online competition is your deciding factor, the documented evidence currently favors treating the PlayStation version as a separate, unconfirmed case. Wait for a PlayStation-specific announcement if rollback is essential to your purchase.

- A stable connection and an opponent pool available at the times you play; no official current population figure is published.

Those are reported feature claims, not a substitute for a PS5 store listing. The official Centralfiction site has a June 25, 2026 notice about an added playable character, but that notice does not provide a PS5 release schedule or commercial details. No verified official page located for this guide states whether the reported PS5 version will launch worldwide on the same date, include previously sold characters, preserve existing save data, or offer a discount to PS4 owners.

What the PlayStation product information documents
Arc’s console product page lists PS4 and PS3 versions. It explains that one purchased add-on can be shared between those two versions when it is tied to the same PSN ID. The page also lists Japanese launch prices from 2016. Those figures are historical launch information, not current prices, so they should not be used as a present-day budget.

The Nintendo Switch Special Edition page says its bundle includes characters that were paid PlayStation DLC, including Es, Mai, Susanoo, and Jubei. It also lists system voices and extra colors. That bundle is specific to Switch. It proves that a bundled edition exists on Nintendo’s platform, but it does not prove that the PS4 listing or a future PS5 version includes the same content.

How to evaluate a listing that says complete
Do not rely on a retailer’s use of “complete” unless the itemized contents are shown for the exact PlayStation SKU. Check whether characters, system voices, color packs, and other add-ons are included or sold separately. The official pages reviewed do not establish a PlayStation complete edition, so an unitemized label is not enough evidence.
Buying and setup checklist for PS5 owners
- Identify the platform label. On the Store page, confirm that the product is the PS4 game and that the listing says playable on PS5. The Canadian reference listing is here; use your own region’s storefront for the actual transaction.
- Decide whether offline or online play is your priority. Choose the current release for story, training, or local matches. Consider waiting if rollback and PC cross-play are non-negotiable.
- Check the edition contents. Read the add-on list for the exact PS4 SKU. Do not use the Switch Special Edition’s bundle as evidence of PlayStation ownership.
- Confirm your hardware format. A physical PS4 copy requires a PS5 with a disc drive. Digital ownership requires the same PSN account that owns the game.
- Budget for online access. Arc’s network page says PS4 online battles require PlayStation Plus. Subscription pricing and plan names vary by region and can change, so verify them in your local PlayStation account.
- Test the feature you care about first. Launch training, story, local versus, or online matchmaking before buying extra content. The Store’s compatibility warning means that assuming every PS4 feature works is not prudent.
Controllers and accessories
A fight stick is optional; the game does not require one. Arc’s special-products page references a HORI collaboration and a Centralfiction stick compatible with PS4 and PS3. That reference does not establish current stock, a current model number, PS5 certification, or a present-day price. Use a standard compatible controller first, then choose an arcade-style controller only if its layout improves your comfort and execution.

BlazBlue: Central Fiction is worth playing on PS5 when you value its story, training, or local fighting and are comfortable with a PS4 game running through compatibility.
