Yes. Big Walk is playable on Steam Deck and is currently marked Steam Deck Verified on Steam. A SteamDB compatibility test dated July 22, 2026, for build 24292419 found successful SteamOS operation, full access through the Deck’s default controller configuration, matching controller icons, legible interface text and good performance with the default graphics settings. Big Walk is an online co-op game for two to 12 players with cross-platform multiplayer. The available evidence confirms compatibility and controller access, but it does not publish a complete button map, frame-rate results for each Deck model or battery-life measurements.

Do the built-in controls work? Yes All functionality was reported accessible with the Deck’s default controller configuration, and the controller glyphs matched the device.
Is text readable? Yes, according to the test The SteamDB record says interface text is legible on the tested configuration.
How many players? Two to 12 online The Steam listing describes online co-op and cross-platform multiplayer for two through 12 players.

House House develops Big Walk and Panic publishes it. Valve lists August 4, 2026 as the Steam release date. A PC Gamer review published August 12, 2026 also labels the game Steam Deck: Verified, although that review’s testing was performed on a desktop PC rather than as a Deck benchmark.

What the Verified label means for Big Walk

The current Steam result

Steam’s Verified badge is the clearest consumer-facing answer to whether the game is intended to work on a Deck. For Big Walk, the dated test behind the label is unusually useful: it does not merely say that the game starts. It reports that the major compatibility checks passed on SteamOS, that the default controller configuration exposes all functionality, that on-screen controller prompts use the correct Deck-style symbols, that interface text is readable and that the default graphics configuration performs well.

Those checks cover the practical problems that can make a PC game awkward on a handheld. You should be able to install the Steam version, launch it from Game Mode and use the integrated sticks, buttons and other controls without first downloading a community layout. The result is tied to the tested build, however. A future game patch, SteamOS update or compatibility-layer change can alter behavior, so treat the badge as a current status rather than a permanent guarantee.

Why Proton is involved

SteamDB lists Proton 11.0-beta as the recommended runtime for the recorded configuration. Proton is Valve’s translation layer for running many Windows games on SteamOS. Valve’s Steam Deck documentation explains that Proton lets most Windows games run on SteamOS without developers having to perform a heavy, separate port.

That means the Verified result does not establish Big Walk as a native Linux release. It establishes that the Windows build, running through the supported Proton configuration, passed Valve’s Deck checks. In normal use, leave the game’s compatibility setting on its default or recommended option unless a later update specifically directs you to change it. Forcing a different Proton version can make troubleshooting harder and may remove the exact environment covered by the recorded test.

How Big Walk’s controls work on Deck

Full controller support and the built-in layout

Steam lists Big Walk with Full Controller Support. SteamDB’s test adds that all functionality is accessible using the Deck’s default controller configuration. Together, those statements support playing with the built-in sticks, face buttons, shoulder controls, triggers and other standard inputs without a keyboard or a separate gamepad.

The sources do not publish a complete button-by-button map. Do not assume, for example, that a particular face button opens a tool wheel or that a specific trigger performs a gesture. Button assignments can also change as the game evolves. If you need the exact current mapping, open the in-game controls or settings screen after launching and use the prompts shown for your installed build.

Pointing, waving and physical communication

Big Walk is designed around expressive, physical communication rather than relying only on voice chat. Its store description highlights pointing, waving and gesturing, including the possibility of flailing around wildly when words are unavailable. That design is well suited to a handheld because the important interactions are exposed through a controller rather than requiring a mouse and keyboard.

The game also provides tools and toys that give those gestures context:

Prompts and readability

The compatibility record says controller icons match the Deck and interface text is legible. You should therefore see prompts that correspond to the buttons in your hands rather than generic keyboard keys, and menus should be readable on the Deck’s built-in display at the tested settings. If a later patch changes the scale, check the game’s display or accessibility options before replacing the layout or connecting another device.

Online co-op, cross-platform play and player count

Two through 12 players

Big Walk is an online cooperative game. The Steam listing says a session can have as few as two players and as many as 12. A solo player should not interpret the Verified badge as evidence of a single-player campaign; the advertised play model is cooperative online play, so plan around having at least one other participant for the intended experience.

Cross-platform sessions

The listing also advertises cross-platform multiplayer. A person playing on Steam Deck can therefore join friends using other supported platforms, subject to the game’s online service, account requirements and the patch versions in use. Cross-platform support does not guarantee that every platform receives an update at exactly the same time. If an invitation fails, first make sure everyone is running the current game build and can reach the online service.

What the Deck does and does not require

The compatibility evidence does not identify a required external controller, keyboard, mouse or special accessory. Big Walk is sold as a digital Steam game, and the tested default layout is intended to cover its functionality. A headset can still be useful for coordinating a large group, but no physical product is required to establish Deck compatibility.

Setting up Big Walk on a Steam Deck

  1. Install the Steam version. In Game Mode, open your Library, select Big Walk and choose the install command. Confirm that the Deck has enough free storage for the game and its updates.
  2. Check the compatibility panel. Open the game’s details and look for the current Steam Deck Compatibility entry. Steam currently shows Verified; this is the status to recheck after major updates.
  3. Keep the runtime on its default setting. Unless the developer or Valve publishes a new instruction, do not force a custom Proton version. SteamDB’s recorded configuration recommends Proton 11.0-beta.
  4. Connect before starting an online session. Use a stable Wi-Fi connection and sign in to the Steam account that owns the game. Cross-platform group play depends on the game’s online service being reachable.
  5. Launch with the built-in controls. Start the game from Game Mode and follow the on-screen controller prompts. The compatibility test reports that the default Deck configuration exposes all functionality.
  6. Check the control and display options. Review the current in-game prompts, text size and any accessibility settings. This confirms the mapping for your installed build instead of relying on an older guide.
  7. Form the co-op group. Use Big Walk’s current session or invitation flow to bring in friends. The advertised group size is two to 12 players, and participants may be on other supported platforms.
  8. Test communication tools early. Try a gesture, pointing, a walkie-talkie or another listed tool before setting out. That lets the group confirm that everyone understands the physical communication system.

Performance expectations and evidence limits

What has been confirmed

The SteamDB record says the default graphics configuration performs well on the tested Deck environment. That is a positive compatibility result, but it is not a published frame-rate benchmark. It does not tell you whether the game holds a particular FPS target in every scene, how long a battery charge lasts, or whether the original LCD and OLED Deck models behave identically.

Why results can vary

Performance can change with resolution, frame-rate limits, display brightness, network activity, background downloads, game patches and SteamOS versions. A busy 12-player scene may also place a different load on the system than a small session, but no source here measures that difference. Avoid treating the phrase “performs well” as a promise of a specific frame rate or battery runtime.

When to recheck compatibility

The most concrete test date is July 22, 2026, and the tested build is 24292419. Big Walk’s listed release date is August 4, 2026, so the compatibility record is versioned information rather than an undated claim. Reopen the Steam compatibility details after a major game update, a Proton update or a SteamOS release. If the badge remains Verified and the game is current, you are again using the closest available indication of supported Deck behavior.

Troubleshooting common Deck problems

The game will not start

  • Confirm that the Deck is online and that Big Walk has finished updating.
  • Restart the Deck and try launching from Game Mode rather than forcing a desktop shortcut.
  • Check that no custom Proton override is active. The recorded recommendation is Proton 11.0-beta.
  • Use Steam’s installed-file verification option if the installation was interrupted or corrupted.
  • If the problem appeared after an update, compare the current compatibility entry with the previously recorded Verified status and check for a developer or Valve notice.

Inputs or prompts look wrong

  • Remove a custom community layout and return to the default controller configuration.
  • Disconnect a paired keyboard or gamepad temporarily so the game detects the Deck as the primary controller.
  • Open the in-game control screen to see the mapping for the installed build; no authoritative complete button chart is published in the available compatibility record.

Text is difficult to read

  • Check the game’s interface or accessibility settings for text-size and display options.
  • Verify that the game is using the Deck display at its normal resolution rather than an unusual external-monitor setting.
  • Remember that the recorded test found text legible at its tested configuration; a changed resolution, update or display setup may produce a different result.

A cross-platform friend cannot join

  • Confirm that every player has the same current game version.
  • Check that the host and guests are signed in to the required online services and have functioning network connections.
  • Try a smaller group first, then add players up to the advertised maximum of 12.
  • If invitations still fail, the issue is more likely to be an online-service or version problem than a Deck control-compatibility problem.

Who should choose the Deck version?

The Deck version makes sense if you want portable access to Big Walk’s cooperative sessions and prefer physical, gesture-oriented controls. The Verified label, full controller support and legible interface remove the usual reasons to avoid a handheld PC version. The two-to-12-player design also works well for a group that wants to move between a television, desktop and Deck while retaining cross-platform access.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Choose with realistic expectations if you need published technical numbers. There is no sourced average frame rate, battery estimate, per-model performance chart or exhaustive button map to consult. Those omissions do not contradict the Verified status; they simply mean that your own display settings, SteamOS version, network conditions and session size can affect the experience beyond what the compatibility test documents.

Bottom line for Steam Deck owners

Big Walk is a supported Steam Deck game: Steam marks it Verified, and a July 22, 2026 test of build 24292419 reports successful SteamOS operation, complete default-controller functionality, correct Deck prompts, readable text and good default-configuration performance. You can use the built-in controls, join online co-op sessions with two to 12 players, and play with friends on other supported platforms. Keep Proton on the recommended configuration, check the in-game mapping rather than guessing button assignments, and recheck compatibility after major updates because the published test is tied to a specific build and date.
