Its approved-device list, last updated March 27, 2026, includes the TCL Flip 2 (4058G), and its support selector includes a Cingular Flip 3 (Q28A). Those listings do not mean AT&T sells either model now or that every flip phone will work. For your handset, compatibility depends on its exact model.
Does AT&T still support flip phones?
AT&T says the phones on its approved-device list are tested and approved for its network. The list, last updated March 27, 2026, names the TCL Flip 2 (4058G). AT&T’s device support selector also has an entry for the Cingular Flip 3 (Q28A). Together, these model-specific listings show that flip phones remain represented in AT&T’s network and support information.

A support or approval listing is not a promise of current retail availability, and one listed model does not establish compatibility for every phone with a folding design. Check the full model identifier—not just the brand, product name, or “unlocked” label—against AT&T’s current approved-device information.
How to check whether your AT&T flip phone will work
- Find the model identifier. Look in the phone’s settings, on its packaging, or on a label beneath the battery if the battery is removable. Record the complete model number, including letters and digits.
- Compare it with AT&T’s current approved-device list. Search the list for the exact identifier. A similar model name or a generic 4G description is not enough to confirm approval.
- Check support information for that model. Use AT&T’s device support selector to find model-specific support details. If the exact identifier is absent or the result is unclear, contact AT&T before relying on the phone or buying it.
- Confirm before purchasing or switching service. Ask AT&T to verify the exact handset’s compatibility for your intended use. An approved-device listing establishes network approval, not that the model is currently sold by AT&T.
Why AT&T’s 3G shutdown does not mean all flip phones are ending
AT&T’s 3G network sunset affected older phones that depended on 3G. Its replacement-phone notice described the transition for affected customers, with the 3G shutdown taking place in February 2022. That historical change does not establish a current plan to retire all flip phones: the form factor does not tell you which network technology a particular handset uses or whether it is approved today.

Is AT&T’s copper-network retirement about flip phones?
No. AT&T’s April 28, 2026 announcement concerns legacy copper-based wireline services, such as home phone and broadband connections. AT&T said it plans to exit copper service in the majority of its wireline footprint by the end of 2029. That is separate from wireless handset compatibility and does not announce a flip-phone shutdown.
