No. AST SpaceMobile was not profitable in the latest reported period. Its unaudited Form 10-Q for the quarter ended June 30, 2026, shows a substantial net loss despite growing revenue and a large cash position. The filing does not provide a date, quarter, or satellite count for reaching break-even.
The key is to keep four measures separate: revenue, accounting profit or loss, cash used in operations, and cash invested in the satellite network. Each answers a different question about the company’s financial position.

What the latest filing says
AST SpaceMobile’s latest figures in the reviewed 2026 quarterly-results list are from its unaudited Form 10-Q for the three and six months ended June 30, 2026, filed August 10, 2026. The results are reported in U.S. dollars.
| Period | Revenue | Consolidated net loss | Cash-flow context |
|---|---|---|---|
| Three months ended June 30, 2026 | $31.5 million | $297.8 million | Quarterly loss; operating and investing cash flows are reported separately in the filing |
| Six months ended June 30, 2026 | $46.3 million | $580.0 million | $329.4 million net cash used in operating activities; $1.2 billion used in investing activities |
Those numbers answer the profitability question directly: revenue was far below the company’s total costs, so AST SpaceMobile was loss-making in both the quarter and the first half of 2026.

The filing is not a current-quarter forecast. A newer filing could change the latest reported figures, and management’s statements about future funding and deployment are forward-looking judgments rather than guarantees.
Is AST SpaceMobile profitable?
No. Profitability means that revenue exceeds all expenses for the period, producing net income. AST SpaceMobile instead reported a consolidated net loss of $297.8 million for the second quarter and $580.0 million for the first six months of 2026.
The loss was not caused by one ordinary operating line alone. The income statement includes product and service costs, engineering and research spending, general and administrative costs, depreciation, satellite-related charges, financing costs and other items. Looking only at revenue growth or the margin on a particular contract would therefore give an incomplete answer.

Revenue is not profit
Second-quarter product revenue was $24.4 million and service revenue was $7.1 million, adding to the reported $31.5 million total. Product and service costs together were $23.6 million. That leaves a positive contribution before the much larger expense categories, but it is not net income.
Total operating expenses reached $329.1 million in the quarter. The figure includes the accounting charge associated with the BB7 satellite, as well as continuing engineering, research and development, administrative and depreciation expenses. Because those costs are recorded below revenue, a quarter can show sales and still produce a very large net loss.
How much revenue does AST SpaceMobile make?
For the three months ended June 30, 2026, AST SpaceMobile reported $31.5 million of revenue. For the six-month period, revenue was $46.3 million. The six-month total is not simply a run-rate prediction for the full year; it is the cumulative amount recognized during the first half under the company’s accounting policies.
| Q2 2026 revenue source | Amount | What it represents |
|---|---|---|
| Product revenue | $24.4 million | Revenue recognized from products during the quarter |
| Service revenue | $7.1 million | Revenue recognized from services during the quarter |
| Total | $31.5 million | Product plus service revenue |
Comparing the $31.5 million of quarterly revenue with the $297.8 million net loss shows why the business remains in an investment phase. Revenue would need to expand substantially, margins would need to improve, or expenses would need to fall—or all three would need to occur—for the company to approach net profitability.

1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesHow much cash is AST SpaceMobile burning?
The clearest reported operating-burn measure is net cash used in operating activities. AST SpaceMobile used $329.4 million of operating cash during the first six months of 2026. This captures cash paid or received in running the business and is different from the accounting net loss.
Satellite construction and deployment require a separate cash-flow category. During the same six-month period, the company used $1.2 billion in investing activities. That investing use includes capital spending and advances connected with the satellite program. It should not be relabeled as “operating burn,” because doing so would mix day-to-day cash consumption with long-term network investment.

| Measure for the six months ended June 30, 2026 | Reported amount | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| Net cash used in operating activities | $329.4 million | Cash consumed by operating activities |
| Net cash used in investing activities | $1.2 billion | Additional cash invested, including satellite-program capital spending and advances |
| Consolidated net loss | $580.0 million | Accounting loss; not a direct measure of cash movement |
There is no single “burn” number that substitutes for all three measures. Analysts should state whether a calculation covers operating cash only or operating cash plus investment spending, and should identify the exact period.
Why the net loss is not the same as cash burn
Accounting profit includes expenses that may not occur as an immediate cash payment, while cash flow reflects when money actually moves. The first-half results also contain financing and other items that affect net income without representing ordinary operating consumption.

The BB7 satellite charge
Second-quarter results included a $125.9 million loss on involuntary conversion related to the BB7 satellite, net of insurance recoveries. This write-off materially increased the reported operating loss for the quarter. Removing that one charge for an analytical view does not establish profitability, because the company would still have reported substantial recurring expenses and a net loss.
Financing and interest items
For the first half, other expense included $89.8 million of induced conversion expense related to repurchases of convertible notes. Interest expense was $50.4 million, while interest income was $54.7 million. These items help explain the gap between operating performance, financing activity and consolidated net income. They should not be folded into a claim about ordinary satellite-network cash costs without identifying them.
How much cash does AST SpaceMobile have?
At June 30, 2026, the balance sheet listed $2.288 billion in cash and cash equivalents and $6.2 million of restricted cash. In its liquidity discussion, the company described approximately $2.7 billion of cash, cash equivalents and restricted cash, including $434.6 million of restricted cash.
The two totals use different presentations of cash categories. Unrestricted cash and cash equivalents are generally more available for ordinary spending; restricted cash is subject to limitations and should not be treated as if every dollar were freely deployable. When quoting the $2.7 billion liquidity figure, include the fact that it contains restricted cash and is the company’s liquidity presentation, not simply the balance-sheet cash-and-equivalents line.

| Restricted cash on the balance sheet | $6.2 million | Balance-sheet restricted amount |
| Cash, cash equivalents and restricted cash in the liquidity discussion | Approximately $2.7 billion | Includes $434.6 million of restricted cash; company presentation |
Management said it believed cash and cash equivalents on hand would be sufficient to meet current working-capital needs, planned operating expenses and capital expenditures for the next 12 months from the date of the quarterly report. That is a stated liquidity outlook, not a promise of profitability, positive cash flow or funding beyond that period.
What the satellite cost estimate tells you—and what it does not
AST SpaceMobile estimates average direct materials and launch cost of $21 million to $23 million per Block 2 satellite for a constellation exceeding 90 satellites. The estimate depends on favorable future launch contracts, supplier diversification, manufacturing scale savings and process improvements. The company warns that actual average cost could be materially higher if those assumptions do not hold.
This estimate helps explain why investing cash use can remain high even while revenue grows. It is not a forecast of total company expenses, because it excludes many costs such as engineering, research, administrative overhead, financing and other corporate spending. Nor does it identify the revenue level needed for break-even.

When will AST SpaceMobile break even?
The June 30, 2026 filing does not disclose a quarter, year or satellite count at which AST SpaceMobile expects to become profitable. It therefore is not possible to calculate a defensible break-even date from the reported figures alone.
A proper break-even model would need at least four linked estimates:
- Gross margin: the revenue retained after direct product and service costs.
- Recurring operating costs: engineering, network operations, research, development, sales, general and administrative spending and depreciation.
- Network investment: satellite manufacturing, launches, ground infrastructure and related advances.
- Financing and other costs: interest, note-conversion effects and other non-operating items.
The filing does not provide enough forward-looking values for all four categories to produce a reliable date. Any article or spreadsheet that converts the satellite plan directly into a profit date is making assumptions beyond what the filing establishes.
Do the satellite-count targets indicate break-even?
No. The satellite counts in the filing describe intended service coverage, not financial break-even thresholds.
| Company-stated satellite level | Purpose described in the filing | What it does not prove |
|---|---|---|
| 25 satellites | Coverage of the most commercially attractive mobile-network-operator markets | That the company will be profitable |
| 45 to 60 satellites | Continuous service in key markets such as the United States, Europe and Japan | That operating cash flow will be positive |
| Approximately 90 satellites | Additional worldwide strategic markets | A disclosed break-even point or guaranteed return on investment |
Management says it believes the company is fully funded for manufacturing and launching approximately 90 satellites. That statement concerns planned deployment funding. It does not say that 90 satellites will generate enough revenue to cover all operating, capital and financing costs.
What investors and readers should monitor next
Future filings can change the answer as the constellation, customer contracts and cost structure develop. To assess progress without mixing unlike measures, track these items separately:
- Quarterly and year-to-date product revenue and service revenue.
- Direct product and service costs and the resulting gross margin.
- Operating expenses, with unusual satellite charges identified separately.
- Net cash used in operating activities.
- Investing cash use for satellites, launches and related advances.
- Unrestricted cash and cash equivalents versus restricted cash.
- Any explicit management forecast for positive operating cash flow or net income.
- Changes in launch pricing, supplier assumptions and estimated Block 2 satellite cost.
A falling net loss is encouraging only if it is accompanied by sustainable margins and improving cash generation. Conversely, a one-time accounting charge can make a single quarter look worse without describing the underlying trend. The most useful comparison is therefore a consistent period-by-period view of revenue, expenses and both cash-flow categories.
Bottom line
AST SpaceMobile was not profitable in the latest reported quarter or first half of 2026. It generated revenue, but its expenses and satellite-program investment remained much larger than that revenue. The company reported substantial liquidity and said it expected on-hand cash to cover the next 12 months of stated needs, yet the filing gives no verified break-even date. Satellite coverage goals and cash availability should be treated as deployment and liquidity information—not as proof that profitability is imminent.
