Usually, yes—with conditions. An RTX 5060 gaming laptop can deliver playable 2560×1440 gaming, especially in conventional rasterized games and titles that support DLSS. It is not a guarantee of maximum settings, high-refresh performance, or demanding ray tracing in every current release. The laptop’s exact RTX 5060 power limit, cooling, memory configuration, display, game, preset and upscaling options determine whether it suits you.

Because there is no single performance figure for every RTX 5060 laptop, judge a specific model with 1440p tests for the games you actually play rather than relying on the GPU name alone.

What “enough for 1440p” should mean

“Enough” is a target, not a fixed specification. A laptop is a good 1440p fit if it can run your games at a frame rate and image quality you consider acceptable at 2560×1440. That might mean native rendering, or it might mean using DLSS Super Resolution. It might also mean enabling frame generation when the game supports it.

The same RTX 5060 Laptop GPU can be paired with different processors, memory capacities, displays, power limits and cooling systems. Those differences change sustained performance. A result from one machine cannot be treated as an industry-wide average for every RTX 5060 laptop.

Three questions define your target

  • Which games? A lightly demanding competitive game and a new, ray-traced single-player game place very different loads on the GPU.
  • Which settings? High or ultra presets, ray tracing and path tracing can reduce performance substantially compared with a conventional rasterized preset.
  • Which frame-rate goal? A 60-fps experience, a 120-Hz display target and a 165-Hz competitive target require progressively more performance.

Why the exact laptop matters more than the RTX 5060 label

Graphics power limits vary

The RTX 5060 Laptop GPU is a mobile component whose power allowance is set by the laptop maker. PCWorld’s tested Lenovo LOQ configuration used 8GB of GDDR7 and a maximum graphics power of 115W. That is a useful concrete example, not a specification shared by every RTX 5060 laptop. A lower-power implementation can produce different results, particularly during long gaming sessions.

When comparing listings, look for the GPU’s stated maximum graphics power or total graphics power, not just “RTX 5060.” If the listing omits it, check an independent review that records the limit and sustained behavior. A review that tests only short bursts may not reveal how the machine behaves after the chassis and cooling system heat up.

Cooling and sustained performance

Two laptops with the same GPU can diverge once heat builds. Cooling design, fan profiles and the manufacturer’s performance mode affect whether the GPU can hold its intended power. Treat a benchmark recorded in a high-performance mode as that mode’s result; battery mode and quieter profiles are different operating conditions.

The screen may not be 1440p

An RTX 5060 laptop can drive an external 2560×1440 monitor even when its built-in panel is 1080p or 1600p. Conversely, a laptop marketed as “QHD” or “1600p” may have a higher pixel count than 2560×1440, increasing the workload. Confirm the panel resolution and refresh rate, and verify which connector supports the output mode you intend to use.

What the available QHD results actually show

Notebookcheck’s database lists individual RTX 5060 Laptop GPU systems tested with different games, presets and ray-tracing settings. Its QHD entries vary sharply, which is why a single promised FPS number would be misleading.

Database workload Reported QHD result How to interpret it
One RTX 5060 laptop, extreme preset 64 fps A playable result for that particular laptop, game workload and preset; it is not a universal average.
A different RTX 5060 laptop, ultra preset with high ray tracing About 17 fps An example of how heavily demanding ray-tracing settings can reduce QHD performance; it should not be used as a prediction for every game.

These are separate database workloads rather than a controlled, like-for-like comparison. They establish the range of outcomes you can encounter, not a guaranteed floor or ceiling. Before buying, find tests at 2560×1440 for the exact laptop model and the games you care about.

Native rendering, DLSS and frame generation

Native 1440p

Native rendering draws every frame at the display resolution. It gives you a straightforward baseline for image quality and responsiveness, but it is the most demanding way to use a 1440p panel. If a game is already smooth at native settings, you do not need an upscaling feature to make it playable.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

DLSS Super Resolution

DLSS can render internally at a lower resolution and reconstruct an output image at 1440p. In supported games, this can provide more performance than native rendering while retaining a higher output resolution. The visual result depends on the game, preset and chosen DLSS mode, so inspect moving details such as foliage, fine geometry and distant objects rather than judging a static screenshot.

DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation

NVIDIA’s April 15, 2025 announcement describes DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation as generating up to three additional frames per traditionally rendered frame. NVIDIA also says the complete DLSS feature set can multiply frame rates by up to 8× over traditional brute-force rendering. Those are feature-level claims from NVIDIA, not a promise that a particular RTX 5060 laptop or game will achieve those figures.

Generated frames increase the number shown on screen, but they are not equivalent to the same number of traditionally rendered frames. Use the game’s native or upscaled rendering performance as the foundation, then consider frame generation for smoother presentation when the game supports it. Evaluate image stability and control response as well as the displayed FPS.

Ray tracing is the key 1440p caveat

Ray tracing adds substantially more work than a conventional rasterized preset. At QHD, the combination of a high or ultra preset and demanding ray-tracing options can push an RTX 5060 laptop far below the performance you may expect from a rasterized test. The Notebookcheck example near 17 fps under an ultra/high-ray-tracing QHD workload demonstrates the scale of that difference.

That figure is workload-specific: it does not mean every ray-traced game will run at 17 fps, and it does not describe the RTX 5060’s performance with ray tracing disabled. If ray tracing is central to your buying decision, look for a review that tests the exact game, resolution and ray-tracing level. Check whether the test uses DLSS and frame generation, because those settings materially change the result.

Is 8GB of VRAM enough?

The PCWorld Lenovo LOQ configuration tested with 8GB of GDDR7. That establishes the memory capacity of that particular laptop, not of every RTX 5060 model. The phrase “8GB enough for 1440p” has no universal yes-or-no answer without naming the game, texture settings, ray-tracing mode and laptop.

Use model-specific tests to see whether a game maintains the frame rate and image quality you want at 1440p. If a review reports stutter, texture-loading problems or a need to lower a particular setting, treat that as evidence for that game and configuration rather than as a blanket verdict on all RTX 5060 laptops.

How to evaluate an RTX 5060 laptop before buying

  1. Identify the complete configuration. Record the exact model, processor, system memory, storage, display resolution and refresh rate. Different configurations sold under one family name may not perform identically.
  2. Confirm the GPU power configuration. Find the stated maximum graphics power or a reputable review that measures it. Do not infer power from the RTX 5060 name.
  3. Find 2560×1440 tests. Prefer independent results at the target resolution. A 1080p result, a desktop RTX 5060 result or an unspecified resolution does not answer a 1440p laptop question.
  4. Match the graphics preset. Note whether the test uses medium, high or ultra settings and whether ray tracing or path tracing is enabled.
  5. Record the rendering method. Separate native results from DLSS Super Resolution results, and note whether frame generation is enabled. Do not compare those numbers as if they were the same workload.
  6. Check the game list. Give priority to tests of your own frequently played games. A database average cannot replace a result for the title you intend to run.
  7. Check the panel and output path. Verify that the built-in screen is actually 2560×1440 if that is important to you, and confirm that an external display can run at its intended resolution and refresh rate.
  8. Consider sustained operation. Read whether the review used the laptop’s performance mode and whether clocks or power changed during a long session. Short benchmark bursts can overstate practical gaming performance.

What performance profile to expect by game type

Competitive and less demanding games

These are the clearest 1440p use cases. With sensible settings, an RTX 5060 laptop is generally a strong candidate, and a high-refresh panel may be usable when the specific game and laptop test support that target. Verify the exact title rather than assuming every competitive game behaves identically.

Modern rasterized AAA games

Expect to choose between native 1440p and a DLSS mode based on the title’s workload and your frame-rate target. High settings may be practical on one laptop while another implementation or a more demanding game requires a lower preset. Independent 1440p tests are the deciding evidence.

Ray-traced and path-traced games

These require the most compromise. You may need to reduce ray-tracing quality, lower other settings, use DLSS or enable frame generation. If you want maximum ray tracing at a high refresh rate, an RTX 5060 laptop is a risky purchase without a game-specific test demonstrating that result.

Practical setup once you own the laptop

  1. Set the intended output resolution. Select 2560×1440 in the game when using a QHD display or external monitor.
  2. Establish a native baseline. Run a representative scene with your preferred preset and record the sustained result after the laptop reaches normal operating temperature.
  3. Adjust the expensive settings first. Test ray tracing, volumetric effects and other options individually so you know which change produces a benefit.
  4. Try DLSS if the game supports it. Compare image quality during motion, not only in menus or still screenshots.
  5. Add frame generation only after the base image is acceptable. Compare control response and visual artifacts as well as the displayed frame rate, remembering that generated frames are not traditionally rendered frames.
  6. Use a consistent power mode. Re-test in the mode you will actually use. Quiet or battery-oriented modes are not equivalent to the laptop’s maximum-performance mode.

When to choose a different class of laptop

Consider a more powerful GPU tier if your requirements combine several demanding conditions: native 1440p, ultra settings, extensive ray tracing, no upscaling, and a consistently high refresh-rate target. The RTX 5060 can be capable, but those requirements leave little room for the settings and workload variation documented in QHD laptop tests.

Conversely, an RTX 5060 laptop can make sense when you are comfortable with sensible presets, DLSS in supported games, and game-specific tuning. Its value depends on the exact implementation and the compromises you accept, not on a universal 1440p FPS promise.
