It depends on the exact Pentium processor, the game, and the graphics hardware. Intel Pentium covers processors from multiple generations, so the name alone cannot tell you whether a PC will run a game well. The Pentium Gold G7400 is one specific desktop example: its specifications make it an entry-level starting point, but they do not establish game performance. Check the exact game’s CPU and GPU requirements before deciding.
Why “Intel Pentium” is not enough to judge gaming
Pentium is a processor family name, not one consistent performance tier. A model from one generation can differ substantially from another, so look up the complete model number before comparing a PC with a game’s requirements. The G7400 discussed here is an Alder Lake desktop processor launched in the first quarter of 2022; its specifications should not be applied to every Pentium.

Intel also cautions that processor numbers are not performance measures across processor families and that “Performance varies by use, configuration, and other factors.” A model name, clock frequency, or feature list is not a substitute for gaming results.
What the Pentium Gold G7400’s specifications tell you
Intel’s G7400 specifications identify a desktop processor with two performance cores, four threads, a 3.70 GHz base frequency, 6 MB of Intel Smart Cache, and 46 W processor base power. These are useful facts about the chip, but they are not comparative gaming benchmarks and do not predict a particular game’s frame rate.

The processor includes Intel UHD Graphics 710, with 16 execution units and a maximum dynamic frequency of 1.35 GHz. Intel lists DirectX 12 support, but API support and the ability to output a display do not establish that a game will run acceptably. A system using integrated graphics has a different graphics setup from one with a discrete graphics card; account for the actual GPU when checking requirements or evaluating results.
How to check whether it can run a game
Intel’s support guidance says, “Every software, including games and applications, has specific hardware and software requirements that must be met for proper functionality.” Use the game publisher’s requirements for the exact title and compare both its processor and graphics requirements with the complete PC configuration. Meeting minimum requirements does not mean the game will deliver the experience you want; recommended requirements are a separate target.

- Identify the full processor model. Confirm whether the PC has a G7400 or another Pentium; do not rely on “Pentium” alone.
- Find the game’s minimum and recommended CPU and GPU requirements. Use the publisher’s current listing for the game and edition you intend to play.
- Check the graphics hardware in the PC. Determine whether the system relies on UHD Graphics 710 or has a separate graphics card, then compare that device with the game’s GPU requirements.
- Assess evidence under comparable conditions. For a useful benchmark, look for the game, graphics card, memory configuration, resolution, graphics settings, and test method—not just a CPU name or FPS number.
No verified G7400 game frame rates are established here. A surfaced video titled “$86 Cheap Intel Gaming CPU Review (Pentium G7400 Benchmarks)” did not expose its test configuration or results, so its title cannot support a claim that the processor passed or failed a specific game.

The G7400 uses the FCLGA1700 socket and supports either DDR4-3200 or DDR5-4800 memory, depending on the configuration. Those memory types are not interchangeable choices for every board: verify what the specific motherboard supports rather than assuming that any LGA1700 board accepts either type.

Intel’s compatible-products page lists desktop 600- and 700-series chipset families, including H610, B660, H670, Z690, B760, H770, and Z790. Treat that list as a starting point, not confirmation that every motherboard in those families will work with a particular system. Check the exact board using Intel’s compatibility tool and the motherboard maker’s support information, including any required BIOS support.

Whether the G7400 makes sense depends in part on what you already own. If you have a compatible board and memory, the decision differs from buying a complete platform. Compare the whole configuration and the experience you need rather than treating the CPU as the only factor.

- Processor Manufacturer: Intel
- Game requirements: Compare the exact processor and graphics requirements with the game’s minimum and recommended specifications.
- Graphics setup: Distinguish performance from the G7400’s integrated graphics from performance with a discrete GPU; results from one setup do not establish results for the other.
- Benchmark quality: Prefer results that state the game, GPU, memory, resolution, settings, and test method. Without those details, FPS figures are difficult to apply to your PC.
- Platform fit: Include the compatible motherboard, supported memory type, and whether you need to buy those parts or already have them.
Intel’s live specification page displayed a recommended customer price range of $77–$87 when accessed on October 7, 2026. Intel describes the figure as guidance that can change and says retail pricing and availability vary; it is not a verified current street price.
