Does AION 2 have a subscription?
The global AION 2 launch FAQ describes the game as “free to play with an optional monthly membership.” In other words, the FAQ does not describe a required subscription for accessing the game; membership is an optional paid category.

It does not establish the membership’s price, duration beyond the “monthly” description, or the precise features and restrictions attached to that access. The global FAQ identifies three purchase categories:

- Cosmetic items: Optional paid cosmetics are offered. The FAQ does not provide a complete item list or confirm whether every cosmetic has no gameplay effect.
- Battle Pass: A pass is listed, but its price, rewards, progression requirements and availability are not specified in the FAQ.
- Monthly membership: The FAQ connects membership to player-driven economy and currency-exchange access, but does not spell out the complete benefits or rules.
The FAQ links to a more detailed monetization notice, but its full terms are not established here. Do not assume that regional item names, prices or benefits apply to the global service.
Is AION 2 pay to win?
The available global information is not enough to give a firm yes-or-no verdict. The FAQ confirms optional cosmetics, a Battle Pass and membership linked to economy and currency-exchange features, but it does not establish which purchases affect character power, progression speed or competitive outcomes.

That distinction matters: calling all purchases “cosmetic” would go beyond what the FAQ says, while calling the game pay to win would also require evidence about paid-item effects that the FAQ does not provide. Review the current item descriptions and membership terms in the global service for a purchase-specific answer.

Does the Korea and Taiwan version use the same model?
Not necessarily. In a September 12, 2025 announcement about Korea and Taiwan, NCSOFT described memberships and passes for convenience and cosmetics—including costumes, weapon skins, pets and wings—and the ability to exchange in-game currency for premium currency. Those are regional plans announced before the global launch, not definitive terms for the global version.

In an August 12, 2025 announcement, producer Namjoon Kim said the trade system was designed to let players exchange items using in-game currency rather than premium currency. That dated description explains the announced trade-system design; it does not establish every current rule or implementation across regions.
Where can you play, and how do platform purchases work?
The global FAQ identifies Steam and PURPLE as PC access routes, says they share servers and in-game content, and lists Windows PC as officially supported. Controller play is possible but is not officially supported.

You can use Steam without linking a PURPLE account. Linking is needed if you want to access the same character and progress on both platforms. Payment options depend on the platform: NC Support’s purchase FAQ, listed as updated September 15, 2026, says PURPLE PC Game Payment Service accepts direct cash payment, mileage, or a combination, while Steam purchases use Steam Wallet funds. Availability can vary by region or account.
Is there a free launch promotion?
The official AION 2 global teaser page states an official launch date of October 5, 2026. It also advertises two free mounts for account creation by December 2, 2026, at 3:30 PM JST, with a reward claim deadline of December 9, 2026, at 3:30 PM JST. These are time-limited launch promotion dates, separate from the game’s free-to-play model.
