Usually not as a main tablet. The Verizon Ellipsis 7 is a discontinued, decade-old design, and its historically documented software is KitKat-era; app compatibility, battery condition and cellular eligibility are bigger concerns than its original specifications. A very cheap, working unit may still suit limited offline or legacy use, but check the actual tablet and the apps you need before paying.
What the Verizon Ellipsis 7 is—and what its specs do not tell you
The Ellipsis 7 is a 7-inch Verizon LTE tablet, model QMV78. iFixit lists a 1.2 GHz quad-core processor, a 1280 × 800 IPS display, a 3.2-megapixel rear camera without flash and front-facing speakers. What software to expect
Verizon’s update announcement said, “Android KitKat is now available for the Ellipsis 7.” That establishes a historical KitKat update, not the software currently installed on any particular tablet, proof that an update server still works, or evidence of a later supported Android release. Before buying, check the installed Android version and try the exact apps you plan to use. Do not assume a required app can still be installed or will work properly just because the tablet powers on.

What to check before you pay
- Confirm the model and installed software. On the tablet, open Settings > About tablet. Verizon’s user guide says this page includes the model number, Android version, baseband, software and hardware versions, and status information such as battery and network. - Inspect the hardware in person. Check for cracks, display defects, dead touch areas, damaged buttons, a loose charging port, speaker or camera faults, unusual heat and rapid battery drain. Test charging, Wi-Fi and sleep/wake, then try the apps you actually need. These are practical checks of the individual used unit; published specifications cannot tell you its present condition.
- Confirm it can be reset and set up. Ask the seller to remove their accounts and factory-reset the tablet. Make sure you can reach setup and use it on Wi-Fi. Do not buy a device that remains account-locked or cannot be reset.
- Check cellular eligibility separately. Get the exact tablet’s IMEI or device ID and ask Verizon to check it before payment. Verizon’s BYOD guidance says a device must be unlocked and compatible with its network to bring it to a Verizon plan, and its compatibility process uses the device ID. - Account for repair effort and risk. iFixit documents a battery-replacement procedure that involves removing the rear cover and SIM with a prying tool. A repair guide does not guarantee that a safe, compatible replacement battery is available. When a used Ellipsis 7 might make sense
Consider it only for a deliberately limited purpose—such as offline use or a legacy app—if the actual device is in acceptable condition and passes the checks above. For a cellular use case, proceed only if Verizon confirms eligibility for that unit’s IMEI. If you need dependable access to current apps, a working battery or mobile service without uncertainty, a newer used tablet is the safer comparison.
Compare the Ellipsis 7 with another used tablet on four points: whether your required apps install and work, physical and battery condition, confirmed cellular eligibility or Wi-Fi-only use, and total cost after any needed repair. No current used-market price or independent contemporary performance test is established here, so judge value against current listings and the condition of the specific device rather than an assumed going price or benchmark.
