Short answer: A Snapdragon X2 Plus laptop is best suited to portable productivity and may work for selected creative tasks. It is a less convincing default for gaming: an independent review found one six-core X2 Plus laptop behind the Lunar Lake and Panther Lake laptops tested for 3D graphics. For any of these uses, judge the exact laptop configuration—not just the processor—and verify your essential games and apps.
What Snapdragon X2 Plus laptops offer
Qualcomm lists two versions of the platform: the 10-core X2P-64-100 and six-core X2P-42-100. Both use Adreno X2-45 integrated graphics and include an 80 TOPS Hexagon NPU, according to Qualcomm’s product brief. The TOPS figure describes the NPU’s stated AI processing throughput; it is not a gaming-performance measure or proof that a particular AI feature is available on every laptop.

Those are platform specifications, not a promise that finished laptops will perform alike. Manufacturers pair the chip with different memory, cooling, displays, batteries, and firmware. Qualcomm’s positioning around performance, AI, and multi-day battery life is a manufacturer claim, not an independent result for every X2 Plus computer.

Is it a good choice for gaming?
Choose an X2 Plus laptop for gaming only after checking evidence for the exact machine and games you intend to play. The strongest cited independent result is IT Pro’s review of a Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 5x Gen 11 with the six-core X2P-42-100: its 3D graphics results improved on an older Snapdragon X Plus laptop but remained well behind the Lunar Lake and Panther Lake laptops in that review. That is a comparison of tested machines, not a verdict on every X2 Plus laptop or every game. Read IT Pro’s Lenovo review.

The available evidence does not establish frame rates or compatibility for named games, launchers, anti-cheat systems, or peripherals. Before buying, look for reports on your specific titles and the exact laptop. This matters especially if competitive games or demanding 3D performance are central to your decision.
Can it handle creative work?
There is a promising but limited example of a creative workflow. In a short hands-on with new Surface devices, Tom’s Guide writer Jason England described bringing a sketch into Blender, turning it into 3D geometry, and transferring it to Photoshop while both applications remained open. He said switching between them felt immediate. This demonstrates an observed workflow on those Surface devices; it is not a measured render or export test, nor a survey of creative-app compatibility. Read the Tom’s Guide hands-on.
For a real purchase, check whether each essential application and plug-in supports Windows on Arm natively or works acceptably through emulation. Photo editing and light design are different demands from sustained 3D rendering or long video exports; seek results for the tasks you actually do rather than assuming one short demonstration covers them all.

Check the display as well as the processor
Color-critical work depends on the specific panel. IT Pro reports that the reviewed Lenovo’s display covered 100% of sRGB and 74.6% of DCI-P3, and notes that OLED rivals offer stronger contrast and richer color. Check the exact configuration’s resolution, brightness, refresh rate, color coverage, and panel type against your workflow.
What about travel and battery life?
One X2 Plus laptop delivered an unusually long result in a specific test: IT Pro measured 27 hours of HD video playback from the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 5x Gen 11’s 54.7 Wh battery. The review also said a couple of days of light use may be possible if screen brightness is not maximized. Treat both observations as specific to that laptop and test context—not as a runtime guarantee for calls, gaming, editing, navigation, or travel with poor connectivity.
Microsoft lists 22.5 hours of battery life for the Surface Laptop 13-inch in its product announcement. That is Microsoft’s own estimate, not a result directly comparable with IT Pro’s Lenovo playback test; consult the Microsoft announcement and its test footnote. Battery estimates can differ by device and method, so compare like workloads and conditions where possible.

Which X2 Plus laptop should you evaluate?
The processor name alone is not enough to compare value or suitability. Look at the full configuration: core variant, RAM, storage, cooling, weight, ports, screen, battery, and current price. For example, IT Pro’s reviewed Lenovo configuration had the six-core X2P-42-100, Adreno X2-45 graphics, 16 GB LPDDR5X, a 512 GB PCIe 4 SSD, a 13.3-inch 2880 × 1800 OLED touchscreen, and a weight of 1.41 kg. Its results belong to that particular machine.

Quick Recap
How to decide before buying
- For gaming: Confirm compatibility and performance for your actual titles, launcher, and anti-cheat software on the exact model. Do not infer game support from an AI specification or a general graphics benchmark.
- For creative work: Verify the Arm support or emulation behavior of each essential app and plug-in, then find results for your real workload—especially sustained rendering or export.
- For color work: Check the particular screen’s color coverage, brightness, and panel type instead of assuming all X2 Plus laptops have equivalent displays.
- For travel: Compare battery evidence for similar workloads and settings. Treat manufacturer estimates and controlled video playback results as different kinds of evidence.
- For value: Compare complete laptop configurations and current prices; the processor platform does not determine the quality of the whole machine.
