Usually, no. If a refurbished PS5 Pro costs more than a new one, the premium needs to buy you a specific, documented benefit—such as a more useful warranty, a better return window, or accessories you would otherwise purchase. Compare the delivered total and the actual seller terms, not the word “refurbished.” Sony’s US listing showed a new 2 TB PS5 Pro for $899 on October 7, 2026; check the current price and stock before deciding.
Start with the new PS5 Pro price and configuration
Sony’s US PlayStation Direct product page listed the 2 TB PS5 Pro at $899 when checked on October 7, 2026. Price and availability can change, so use the current product listing as your benchmark rather than relying on an older price.

The PS5 Pro is an all-digital console. Sony sells the disc drive and vertical stand separately. If you need either, compare the refurbished offer against the cost of a new console with the same items—not just the console-only headline prices. If you do not need them, do not count them as a benefit of a refurbished bundle.
What “certified refurbished” means—and what it does not
Sony says its own PlayStation certified-refurbished products undergo full testing to meet the same functional standards as new PlayStation products, use genuine replacement parts as needed, and may have minor cosmetic imperfections. Sony also says these products include its standard one-year limited warranty. Those terms describe Sony-certified products; they do not automatically apply to a console refurbished by another seller.
#1 Best Overall
- Model Number CFI-2000

- Vertical Stand sold seperately
The Sony US refurbished pages checked on October 7, 2026, listed PS5 Slim and earlier PS5 models, but not a refurbished PS5 Pro. That is a snapshot of the pages checked, not proof that third-party refurbished Pro units are unavailable. Treat a non-Sony listing as seller-specific unless the seller can substantiate Sony certification for that exact console.
Compare the offer on terms that affect your risk
Before paying more than the current new-console price, check the listing and, if necessary, ask the seller to confirm these points in writing:
- Final delivered total: Include shipping and any required accessories, then compare the same configuration against Sony’s current new price.
- Refurbishment and testing: Look for who performed the work, what was tested or replaced, and the condition grade. “Like new” alone does not explain the process.
- Warranty: Identify the warranty provider, duration, start date, transferability, exclusions, and what proof of purchase is required. Do not assume Sony’s warranty covers a third-party refurbished unit.
- Returns: Confirm the return period, condition requirements, and who pays return shipping. A return policy is useful only if its actual terms fit your situation.
- Included items: Confirm the controller, cables, and any disc drive or stand included. Compare only items you would otherwise buy.
- New-unit availability: If a new console is available at the lower price, the refurbished offer needs a clear advantage to justify the extra cost.
Check who stands behind the warranty
Sony’s US limited hardware warranty states that it covers the original purchaser for one year from the original purchase date and requires a dated bill of sale or retailer receipt for service. That does not establish coverage for a refurbished console bought from another seller. Ask who will handle a repair, when the coverage begins, and what documentation you will receive. If the listing does not make those terms clear, request them before buying.
Sony also describes an extra $50 toward a PS5 or PS5 Pro purchase through its Back Market trade-in arrangement, subject to eligibility and process. Check Sony’s trade-in page for current availability and terms; do not treat the offer as a guaranteed discount unless your trade-in qualifies.
When paying more for refurbished could make sense
A higher refurbished price can be reasonable if the written terms deliver value you actually want. For example, a seller might offer a longer warranty than the alternative, a return window that materially reduces your risk, or a bundle with accessories you planned to buy. Verify the benefit and its conditions rather than assigning value to a vague “premium refurbished” label.
If the offer has no clear advantage—or the seller will not identify the refurbishment standard, warranty, or return terms—choose the better-documented option. For many buyers, that will be the new console when it is available for less.
