Is a Refurbished Lenovo ThinkCentre M75q Gen 2 Worth Buying?

Sometimes—but the model name alone is not enough to justify a purchase. A refurbished Lenovo ThinkCentre M75q Gen 2 can be an excellent compact office, home-server, media, or everyday-work computer when the listing has a suitable Ryzen processor, adequate dual-channel memory, a healthy SSD, the ports you need, and real return or warranty protection. The same model family also includes much slower processors, missing drive hardware, limited memory configurations, and units with little or no remaining coverage.

Judge the individual machine, not the badge. Before paying, verify the exact processor, RAM modules and capacity, storage configuration, operating-system license, accessories, physical condition, serial-number warranty status, seller return terms, and total delivered cost.

What the ThinkCentre M75q Gen 2 is

The M75q Gen 2 is Lenovo’s Tiny-format business desktop. Its enclosure is roughly one litre, measuring about 179 × 183 × 34.5/37 mm and weighing approximately 1.25 kg, although Lenovo notes that dimensions and weight vary by configuration. It is designed to sit behind a monitor, on a desk, or in a compatible mounting arrangement rather than to replace a full-size tower.

That small enclosure is useful when desk space, low visual clutter, or multi-monitor office deployment matters. It also means the machine is less flexible than a conventional desktop: the processor is not a normal desktop socket part, graphics are integrated, and the exact optional ports, storage brackets, wireless card, stand, and mounting parts depend on how the unit was originally configured and what the refurbisher includes.

  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

The short buying verdict

Buy a refurbished M75q Gen 2 when all of these conditions are true:

  • The exact CPU is appropriate for your workload, preferably a clearly identified Ryzen 5 or Ryzen 7 model for demanding multitasking.
  • Memory capacity and module layout meet your needs, or a straightforward upgrade is priced into the deal.
  • The SSD is healthy and large enough, and any second-drive bay hardware you expect is actually present.
  • The HDMI, DisplayPort, USB, Ethernet, and optional rear connections match your monitors and peripherals.
  • The installed operating system and activation status are clear.
  • The unit includes a suitable power adapter and any stand, VESA parts, antennas, or display adapters required for your setup.
  • The return window and seller warranty protect you if the computer arrives with faults, missing parts, or a materially different specification.
  • The total cost remains competitive with other current compact desktops of similar CPU, memory, storage, and protection.

Walk away when the seller will not disclose the machine type and exact CPU, uses vague phrases such as “up to Ryzen 7,” omits the power adapter, cannot explain the operating-system license, or offers no practical way to return a defective unit. A low sticker price does not compensate for an unverified configuration.

Why the M75q Gen 2 name is not a complete specification

Lenovo’s Product Specifications Reference dated June 9, 2026 lists a broad processor range for this platform. Options run from Athlon Gold and Silver chips through Ryzen 3 and Ryzen 5 to Ryzen 7. The range is large enough that two listings carrying the same M75q Gen 2 name can have very different application performance.

Examples in Lenovo’s platform documentation include the six-core, 12-thread Ryzen 5 PRO 4650GE; the six-core, 12-thread Ryzen 5 PRO 5650GE; and the eight-core, 16-thread Ryzen 7 PRO 5750GE. These are platform options, not a guarantee that any particular refurbished listing contains one. Ask for a photograph of the BIOS information screen, a system-report export, or a clear label showing the exact processor and machine type/model.

How to interpret the processor listing

  • Athlon or Ryzen 3: Suitable for basic web, document, point-of-sale, and light administrative work when paired with enough RAM and an SSD. Do not assume these configurations offer the same multitasking headroom as Ryzen 5 or Ryzen 7 versions.
  • Ryzen 5: The practical middle ground for office multitasking, browser-heavy work, coding, light content creation, and small virtual machines. Confirm the generation and the exact model rather than relying on the Ryzen 5 label.
  • Ryzen 7: The platform’s highest listed tier, with examples reaching eight cores and 16 threads. It can be attractive for sustained multitasking, but the premium is worthwhile only if the price, cooling condition, memory, and storage justify it.

Core and thread counts describe the processor’s potential; they do not establish benchmark scores, gaming performance, noise, power use, or the condition of a used unit. No independent benchmark or hands-on test is available for a specific refurbished machine, so treat performance claims as configuration-based rather than tested results.

Memory: check both capacity and channel layout

The M75q Gen 2 has two DDR4 SO-DIMM slots and supports dual-channel operation. Lenovo lists support for up to 64 GB of DDR4-3200, with effective memory speed potentially depending on the processor.

A listing with one memory module can run, but two matched modules generally allow dual-channel operation and make better use of the integrated graphics memory bandwidth. Confirm whether the advertised capacity is one module or two. For example, 16 GB may be a single 16 GB SO-DIMM or a 2 × 8 GB pair; those layouts affect upgrade options and memory-channel operation.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Questions to ask the seller about RAM

  • How many SO-DIMMs are installed?
  • What is the capacity of each module and its rated speed?
  • Are both slots accessible and free of damage?
  • Does the seller’s stated maximum refer to Lenovo’s 64 GB platform limit, or merely to the capacity installed in this unit?

If you need more memory, price the compatible DDR4 SO-DIMM upgrade before buying. An apparent bargain can disappear after adding a second module, especially if the original module is a non-matching capacity or speed. Do not assume an upgrade is necessary if your workload is light; buy the configuration that meets your needs now and leaves a sensible path for expansion.

Storage and the missing-hardware trap

Lenovo describes support for an M.2 SSD and a 2.5-inch drive, with platform support for up to two storage drives. That is a capability of the platform, not proof that a refurbished unit contains both drives or the hardware needed to install them.

Ask whether the listing includes an M.2 SSD, its capacity, and whether it is the boot drive. If you want a 2.5-inch SATA drive, confirm that the caddy or bracket, SATA cable, and mounting screws are included. Refurbished systems are often sold after drives or brackets have been removed, and a bare bay is not the same as a ready-to-use second-drive position.

Storage checks before payment

  1. Request the exact SSD type and capacity, preferably from a BIOS or operating-system screenshot rather than a generic product title.
  2. Ask whether the drive is new, reused, or replaced during refurbishment. The available evidence does not establish a universal refurbishment standard or drive-health guarantee.
  3. Confirm whether a 2.5-inch bay is populated and whether its bracket and cable are present.
  4. Plan for your own backup. A refurbished SSD can fail just like any other used component, and the seller’s warranty may cover replacement rather than your data.

Ports, displays, and wireless configuration

Standard connectivity listed by Lenovo includes HDMI 1.4b, DisplayPort 1.4, Gigabit Ethernet, front USB-C data, and USB-A ports. Rear optional ports vary by configuration. If you need a particular monitor connector, serial-style accessory, extra USB port, or adapter-free setup, verify the rear panel of the exact machine instead of relying on a stock photograph.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Lenovo lists support for up to three independent displays using the onboard and optional ports. That specification describes office and productivity display capability; it is not evidence of gaming performance or suitability for graphics-heavy workloads. The M75q Gen 2 uses integrated AMD Radeon graphics, and no independent graphics benchmark is established here.

Wireless networking and Bluetooth are configuration-dependent. Confirm that the Wi-Fi/Bluetooth card and antennas are included if you do not plan to use Ethernet. A seller may photograph the same chassis while shipping a different wireless configuration.

Operating system and licensing

Lenovo’s platform options include Windows 11 Home and Pro, Windows 10 variants, Ubuntu Linux, IGEL Linux, and no preloaded operating system. The PSREF does not establish which option is installed on a particular refurbished unit.

Ask the seller to state the installed edition and how activation is handled. On a Windows listing, confirm whether activation is digital, tied to the machine’s firmware, or supplied through a license transfer described in the sale terms. If the listing says “Windows included” without naming the edition or activation status, treat that as incomplete information. A no-OS unit can still be good value if you already have a legitimate operating system and understand the installation work, but include that effort and any license cost in your comparison.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Warranty, returns, and support dates

Lenovo lists several possible original base-warranty configurations for the platform, including one-year service, three-year onsite service, or no base warranty. Those choices describe how a new system could have been ordered; they do not tell you what remains on a used machine.

Check the actual machine type/model and serial number with Lenovo before the return window expires. A model-specific result for SKU 11JQ000EAU showed an end-of-support date of 2029-11-29, but that is one SKU example, not a universal date for every M75q Gen 2 or every region. Support status can differ by machine type and market.

Read the seller’s terms separately from Lenovo’s status

  • Return period: Confirm the number of days, who pays return shipping, and whether a restocking deduction applies.
  • Seller warranty: Determine whether it covers parts, labor, shipping, and failures that appear after initial testing.
  • Condition language: Look for specific definitions of cosmetic grades, missing accessories, dead pixels, and battery-related exclusions if a device includes a removable accessory.
  • Serial-number verification: Make sure the serial on the delivered chassis matches the listing and the support lookup.
  • Data handling: Perform a clean installation or secure reset before storing sensitive information, and maintain independent backups.

Manufacturer support and a reseller’s return promise are separate protections. Neither one confirms that a particular refurbished unit was restored to a factory-new condition.

What to inspect when the computer arrives

  1. Record the package and serial number. Photograph the chassis, power adapter label, and serial before changing anything.
  2. Check the physical enclosure. Look for bent panels, damaged USB ports, missing rubber feet, blocked vents, and screws that appear stripped or absent.
  3. Enter the BIOS. Verify the processor model, installed memory, storage devices, boot mode, and any unexpected password or administrative lock.
  4. Verify the operating system. Confirm the edition, activation, device drivers, and whether the seller’s promised software is actually installed.
  5. Test every required connection. Connect your intended monitor through the port you plan to use, test Ethernet or Wi-Fi, and check front and rear USB ports with known-good devices.
  6. Run a practical workload. Open your normal browser tabs and applications, copy files, play ordinary media, and observe for crashes, storage errors, or display dropouts. This is an acceptance check, not a published benchmark.
  7. Decide inside the return period. Keep the packaging until the machine has passed your tests.

Upgrades that can make a refurb worthwhile

Because the platform has two SO-DIMM slots and support for up to two drives, a modestly configured unit can be improved. Upgrade only after confirming what is already installed and what the chassis includes.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Memory upgrade

Add or replace SO-DIMMs when your applications regularly approach the installed capacity, when a single module prevents dual-channel operation, or when a planned workload needs more headroom. Match the supported DDR4 generation and account for the processor’s effective speed behavior. Do not pay for the 64 GB platform maximum unless your workload can use it.

Storage upgrade

Replace a small or questionable M.2 SSD when capacity, speed, or drive health is the limiting factor. Add a 2.5-inch drive only if the caddy, cable, and mounting hardware are present or can be obtained at a known cost. Keep the original drive until your data migration and recovery plan are complete.

Accessories and mounting

Check for the correct power adapter, vertical stand, VESA mounting parts, Wi-Fi antennas, and display adapters. These items can cost more than expected and may determine whether the tiny computer can be installed where you intend.

How to compare the M75q Gen 2 with other compact desktops

Use a like-for-like comparison rather than comparing model names or advertised “business grade” language. Put the exact figures for each candidate into a simple worksheet:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Comparison area What to record
Processor Exact model, generation, cores, and threads
Memory Total capacity, number of modules, DDR generation, and upgrade slots
Storage Drive type, capacity, health information, second-drive support, and included hardware
Graphics and displays Integrated or discrete graphics, available outputs, and number of independent displays supported
Connectivity USB-C data capability, USB-A count, HDMI/DisplayPort versions, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and optional rear ports
Physical installation Dimensions, mounting method, stand, VESA parts, and power-adapter requirements
Protection Seller return period, seller warranty, manufacturer coverage, and serial-number support status
Total cost Purchase price plus shipping, tax, required adapters, upgrades, and replacement parts

There is no reliable current-market price or universal savings threshold established for this model. Compare the complete delivered configuration in your local market on the day you buy. A cheaper computer that needs RAM, an SSD, a caddy, a power adapter, and a licensed operating system may cost more than a correctly configured unit with a higher initial price.

Which workloads fit the M75q Gen 2

Good matches

  • Web browsing, office applications, accounting, and remote-work software.
  • Compact business deployments where Ethernet, multiple displays, and easy mounting matter.
  • Home administration, media playback, and light development work.
  • Small services or laboratory projects when the chosen processor, memory, storage, and operating system meet the software requirements.

Cases requiring caution

  • Modern 3D gaming, professional GPU rendering, and other graphics-heavy workloads, because the platform uses integrated Radeon graphics and no benchmark establishes performance for those tasks.
  • Large virtual-machine or data-processing workloads when the listing has a low-tier CPU or limited RAM.
  • Deployments that require a specific rear connector, because optional ports vary.
  • Anything dependent on a manufacturer’s warranty when the serial lookup shows no remaining coverage and the seller’s warranty is weak.

Common listing problems and how to resolve them

The listing says only “Ryzen 5”

Request the full processor model and a machine type/model identifier. If the seller cannot provide them, compare the unit as an unknown configuration and usually pass unless the return protection is unusually strong.

The advertised RAM does not match the delivered system

Photograph the BIOS or system-information screen immediately, contact the seller within the stated return process, and avoid opening the machine until you know whether doing so affects the policy.

The second drive cannot be installed

Inspect for the 2.5-inch bay bracket and SATA cable. If either is missing, calculate the exact replacement cost and delivery time before deciding whether the platform’s two-drive capability matters to you.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A monitor will not work

Test the monitor and cable with another device, then verify that the chosen M75q output is present on your exact rear panel. HDMI 1.4b and DisplayPort 1.4 are listed platform outputs, while optional ports vary by configuration. A required adapter should be part of your total-cost calculation.

Windows is not activated

Capture the activation message and the seller’s original listing, then use the seller’s support or return procedure. Do not assume that a refurbished business desktop automatically includes a transferable retail license.

A practical decision rule

Choose the M75q Gen 2 if the exact listing passes four tests: the processor and memory fit the workload; the storage and ports fit the installation; the delivered condition and accessories are documented; and the protected, all-in cost compares favorably with alternatives of similar capability. Reject it when any of those tests depends on an assumption the seller will not verify.

Lenovo itself cautions that it reserves the right to change specifications or other product information without notice. Treat the PSREF as a guide to possible platform configurations, then verify the machine in front of you. That final verification is what turns a potentially good refurbished purchase into a defensible one.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The Bottom Line

A refurbished Lenovo ThinkCentre M75q Gen 2 is worth buying only as a verified configuration. Favor a clearly identified Ryzen 5 or Ryzen 7 unit with suitable dual-channel RAM, a healthy SSD, the ports and accessories you need, and meaningful return or warranty coverage. Without those details, the M75q Gen 2 label is too broad to support a confident buy.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
