Usually, no. A higher AnTuTu score is worth paying more for only when the comparison uses the same benchmark version and platform, the extra performance improves work you actually do, and the phone’s other features justify the price difference. For messaging, browsing, video and ordinary apps, a large synthetic-score advantage may not produce a noticeable benefit. For demanding games or other sustained workloads, it can matter—but peak score alone still does not tell you about heat, battery drain, stutter or long-session stability.
Use AnTuTu as one input in a broader buying decision, not as a price calculator. Compare valid like-for-like results, then check real applications, sustained graphics performance, battery behavior and the complete phone specification.

What an AnTuTu score actually tells you
AnTuTu is a synthetic benchmark that turns several device tests into a combined score. It is useful for a broad performance snapshot, but it is not a direct measurement of how much better a phone will feel in every app or whether a higher-priced model is good value.

Version matters
AnTuTu’s English smartphone ranking page retrieved for this guide is labeled V11, marked as updated in August 2026, and reports average valid results rather than each model’s highest run. AnTuTu separately announced a V12 public beta on September 22, 2026, describing more realistic usage scenarios and a refreshed interface. Because the ranking page remains labeled V11, do not mix a V11 result with a V12 result and call the difference a hardware advantage.
Platform matters
AnTuTu explains that its Android and iOS editions differ in implementation, test methods, graphics APIs and scoring. Its stated guidance is to compare devices within the same operating system and the same major benchmark version. The ranking page also warns that cross-platform scores may not be directly comparable. In practice, an Android score and an iPhone score should not be placed on one “faster phone” ladder simply because both numbers came from AnTuTu.
What current rankings represent
The retrieved global V11 ranking excludes the Chinese market and uses averages of valid submitted results. Its listed top score was 4,013,168 for the Red Magic 11 Pro in August 2026. That figure is a version-specific ranking statistic, not a promise that every retail unit will achieve it, not a measure of real-world improvement, and not evidence that a particular price premium is justified.

Why the total score cannot answer the value question by itself
A synthetic test uses a defined workload. Real phones face changing app code, network conditions, background services, screen settings, thermal limits and battery state. A high short-run result can therefore coexist with disappointing long-session behavior, while a lower-scoring phone may feel entirely adequate for a light user.
Android Authority’s discussion of benchmark limitations notes that benchmark workloads do not represent every real application. Its current testing methodology consequently separates several dimensions: Geekbench 6 for CPU workloads, PCMark Work 3.0 for broader system tasks, 3DMark Wild Life stress testing for graphics performance and frame-rate stability over a 20-minute run, plus common battery workloads. The lesson is not that AnTuTu is useless; it is that a single total cannot stand in for CPU responsiveness, sustained graphics, stability and power use at the same time.
The older benchmark-limitations discussion dates from 2015, so it should be read for the general methodological caveats, not as a source of current rankings or device claims. Google’s Android developer App Performance Score is another example of a narrower tool: it assesses app performance on a device and recommends additional monitoring data and benchmarks for deeper insight. It is not an overall consumer phone score and should not be used as a substitute for a purchase comparison.

When paying more can make sense
You regularly run demanding games
Extra performance is most defensible when you play graphics-heavy titles, use high refresh-rate modes, emulate demanding systems or run another workload that keeps the processor and graphics hardware busy. Even then, compare the games you actually play. Look for sustained frame rate, hitching, heat and battery drain after an extended session, not just a launch-time peak.

Long video exports, large photo processing jobs, local compilation, 3D work and other intensive tasks can benefit from a faster platform. The relevant question is how much time the task saves and whether the phone can maintain that speed without aggressive throttling. A benchmark gap that never changes your workflow has little financial value.
You intend to keep the phone for years
A performance reserve can delay the point at which demanding apps feel slow. That is a reasonable consideration, but it is still an inference rather than a guaranteed lifespan. Software support, storage capacity, battery health and thermal design can matter as much as the launch benchmark.

When a higher score is usually not worth the premium
Your use is light or ordinary
Messaging, web browsing, video streaming, maps, email and standard social apps often do not need the fastest available chip. If hands-on comparisons show no meaningful difference in your daily actions, paying for a larger AnTuTu number is paying for unused capacity.
The comparison crosses versions or platforms
A V11 Android result cannot establish superiority over a V12 result, and an Android result cannot be cleanly ranked against an iOS result. Reject the comparison before considering the price. A dramatic-looking number may reflect the test rather than the handset.
The expensive model compromises elsewhere
Performance is only one part of a purchase. A cheaper phone with better battery endurance, cameras, display quality, modem behavior, software support or storage may be the stronger choice. The score premium is particularly hard to justify when the faster phone lacks a feature you use every day.

A step-by-step method for deciding
- Write down the exact comparison. Note each phone’s model, RAM and storage configuration, operating system, software version and quoted AnTuTu major version. If a listing omits these details, treat its number as incomplete evidence.
- Make the benchmark comparison valid. Compare Android with Android or iOS with iOS, and keep the major AnTuTu version the same. Do not combine the V11 ranking with V12 beta results. Remember that AnTuTu’s global ranking excludes the Chinese market and reports average valid results, so it is a reference point rather than a controlled head-to-head test.
- Define your limiting workload. Identify the app, game or task that currently feels slow, or that you expect to become important. If you cannot name a workload, assume the score difference may have little practical value.
- Check independent real-use evidence. Look for app-opening responsiveness, export times, game frame-rate behavior and other repeatable tests involving your type of use. A review that reports only a peak benchmark leaves important questions unanswered.
- Examine sustained performance. For gaming or long heavy tasks, seek a stress test or extended session showing frame-rate consistency, stutter, temperature and throttling. Android Authority’s methodology uses a 20-minute 3DMark Wild Life stress run as an example of testing stability rather than a single burst.
- Check power behavior. Compare battery workloads and charging requirements. A faster phone that consumes substantially more power may deliver less useful time away from a charger.
- Calculate the real premium. Use the current price of the same storage tier and account for included accessories, warranty, software support and any required upgrade. The sources do not establish a universal score gap or dollar amount that makes an upgrade worthwhile.
- Decide based on the benefit. Pay extra when the measured improvement solves a real problem and the rest of the phone remains competitive. Otherwise, direct the money toward battery life, storage, camera capability, display quality or longer support.
Comparison checklist for two phones
| Question | What to record | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Is the benchmark comparable? | Same AnTuTu major version and same operating-system platform | Different implementations and scoring systems can make raw totals misleading. |
| What kind of result is shown? | Average valid result, single run, review sample or manufacturer claim | An average ranking value is not the same as a best-case run. |
| Which configuration was tested? | Exact model, RAM, storage, software and region | Configurations and software can affect performance. |
| Does it help your apps? | Observed responsiveness or task times in the apps you use | A synthetic advantage has value only when it changes your experience. |
| Does performance hold? | Long-session frame rate, stutter, heat and throttling | Peak speed says little about sustained workloads. |
| What does it cost to sustain? | Battery behavior during comparable workloads | Power use can offset a performance gain. |
| What else changes? | Display, cameras, modem, storage, support and battery | The phone is a complete purchase, not a benchmark number. |
How to read a large score difference
First ask whether the difference survives a validity check. If the numbers come from different AnTuTu generations, different platforms or different test conditions, do not assign a percentage improvement to the hardware. If the results are valid, ask whether the gap appears in the workload that matters to you.
A large total can be useful as a screening signal: it may identify phones worth investigating for demanding use. It cannot tell you that opening every app will be proportionally faster, that games will hold a particular frame rate, or that the phone will last longer on a charge. Those conclusions require relevant tests.
Do not turn the August 2026 V11 figure of 4,013,168 into a target that every buyer should chase. It belongs to a particular ranking snapshot, market scope and benchmark version. The announcement of a V12 beta also means future rankings may not be directly comparable with that snapshot.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
- Mixing V11 and V12: label every result before comparing it.
- Crossing Android and iOS: use same-platform comparisons, as AnTuTu recommends.
- Using a top score as a typical score: check whether the source reports an average of valid results or a single best run.
- Ignoring configuration: verify RAM, storage, software and model suffix.
- Testing only a cold phone: include a long session so heat and throttling can appear.
- Ignoring battery cost: compare power behavior alongside speed.
- Assuming a universal price rule: no reliable source establishes a score increase or dollar premium that always justifies paying more.
- Confusing app scoring with phone scoring: Google’s App Performance Score is app-focused, not an overall shopping grade.
A practical decision rule
Buy the faster phone when all three conditions are true: the scores are validly comparable; your regular workload benefits in an observable, sustained way; and the added price is reasonable after considering the complete specification. If any one condition fails, treat the AnTuTu advantage as a weak reason to spend more.
For a light user, prioritize comfort, battery life, camera and support once both phones feel responsive. For a gamer or heavy-task user, give more weight to sustained frame rate, heat, battery drain and task completion time. There is no evidence-based universal formula that converts an AnTuTu point difference into a fixed price premium.
Bottom line
A higher AnTuTu score is worth paying more for only when it translates into a benefit you will repeatedly use. Verify the benchmark version and platform, inspect the exact configuration, test or read about sustained workloads and battery behavior, and compare the whole phone at its actual price. Otherwise, choose the model that meets your tasks and delivers the better overall package—not the one with the biggest number.
