The right answer depends on your eye-to-screen distance, the set’s actual dimensions, your room layout and whether you want an immersive picture or a more discreet screen. The title’s first-person claim is not established here, so this article won’t pretend to describe a purchase or regret that hasn’t been verified.
Is a 75-inch TV too big for your living room?
There is no universal room-size rule that makes a 75-inch television either right or wrong. Viewing distance is a useful starting point, but layout, available space, what you watch and how visually prominent you want the screen to be matter too. Samsung notes that a screen can feel too large when you sit so close that you cannot comfortably take in the picture; it recommends considering those practical factors alongside distance and budget. Samsung Canada’s TV-size guide offers guidance, not a guarantee that a particular screen will feel comfortable in every room.

Comfort and appearance are separate questions. A 75-inch TV may be workable from your usual seat yet still look like the main feature of a minimalist room. One Reddit poster described concern about that effect after taping out 65- and 75-inch screen outlines in a minimalist living room. That is one person’s account, not evidence of a general preference or a controlled test. The discussion is useful mainly as a reminder to consider how the screen looks when it is off, not just how it looks during a film.

How far should you sit from a 75-inch TV?
Published recommendations give different answers because they describe different viewing goals. LG’s U.S. guide places a 70–75-inch screen at about 2.1–2.3 m (6.9–7.5 ft) under its stated 40-degree “Recommended Cinema Distance” framing. Samsung’s Caribbean guide lists 2.3 m (7.5 ft) as a general viewing distance for a 75-inch set and 1.9 m (6.3 ft) as its recommended 4K viewing distance. These are manufacturer guideposts using different labels, not a single agreed cutoff. LG’s U.S. TV-size guide and Samsung Caribbean’s guide explain their respective recommendations.

- DTS Virtual-X Sound: An immersive sound format creates a three-dimensional sound experience with your TV’s speakers.
Higher pixel density on a 4K screen can make pixels less noticeable when you sit closer, but it does not erase the effect of screen size on immersion. As you move closer, the image fills more of your field of view; whether that feels cinematic or overwhelming is personal. Samsung Canada describes 30–40 degrees as a comfortable, cinematic field-of-view target and gives a general-distance rule of thumb of screen size multiplied by 1.2. Treat that as one approach rather than a promise of comfort or protection from eye strain.
To apply the guidance, measure from your usual seated eye position to the screen—not from the back wall to the TV. Then compare that distance with the recommendations according to what you want: LG’s cinema framing, Samsung Caribbean’s general figure or its separate 4K figure. If they point to different choices, that reflects different viewing goals; it does not mean one distance is guaranteed to feel right for you.

Will a 75-inch TV physically fit?
The 75-inch label is the screen’s diagonal measurement, not the width of the whole television. Samsung gives reference dimensions of 1,670 × 955 mm (about 65.7 × 37.6 in) for a 75-inch screen, but says dimensions vary by model. Those figures are not a substitute for checking the exact TV you plan to buy. Samsung Caribbean’s dimensions guide provides the reference figures and caveat.

Should you choose a 65-inch or 75-inch TV?
Compare the sizes against your actual room and habits rather than choosing by diagonal alone. Samsung recommends weighing viewing distance, layout, available space, intended use and budget. A larger screen can add immersion for movies, sports and gaming; a smaller set may be a better match when space or budget is limited. RTINGS cautions that a size recommendation from its tool should be treated as the smallest size it recommends for that space, not necessarily the ideal size for everyone.
| What to compare | Question to ask |
|---|---|
| Seating distance | How far are your eyes from the screen in your usual seat? |
| Physical fit | Do the exact TV, stand or mount, and furniture fit with suitable clearance? |
| Room appearance | Will the screen feel immersive, or visually dominant when it is off? |
| Viewing habits | Do you mainly want an enveloping picture for movies, sports or games, or a less prominent everyday screen? |
| Budget | Is the larger size worth its cost to you? |
How to test the size before you buy
- Measure your viewing distance. Use the eye position in your usual seat and measure to the screen.
- Check the exact model dimensions. Look up its full width and height, including the stand dimensions if you plan to use it, then measure your furniture or mounting area.
- Mark the screen outline in the room. Use tape to outline the approximate screen size where it would sit. This is a practical visualization technique, not a controlled test; it can help reveal whether the screen feels out of scale with the room.
- Compare the next smaller size. Consider the 65-inch option against the same distance, space, viewing habits and budget. Choose the size that suits both your preferred viewing experience and the room’s appearance.
If the 75-inch outline looks overwhelming or the set does not fit comfortably, consider a smaller TV. If the main issue is placement, see whether a different seating or TV position works in your room before settling on a size. A mount may affect placement, but confirm the exact TV and mount dimensions and fit; the available guidance here does not establish compatibility for any particular setup.
