Usually, yes—450 W is AMD’s stated minimum PSU recommendation for the Radeon RX 570. AMD lists the card’s typical desktop board power as 150 W, not 450 W. Whether a particular 450 W power supply will work still depends on the exact RX 570 model, the PSU’s condition and cabling, and the rest of the PC.
What AMD’s 450 W recommendation means
AMD’s Radeon RX 570 specifications list typical desktop board power of 150 W and a minimum PSU recommendation of 450 W. The 450 W figure is guidance for the power supply in a complete system; it is not the graphics card’s own power draw.
That makes 450 W the manufacturer’s baseline, not a guarantee that every PSU marked 450 W will suit every computer. AMD’s specification does not provide a universal extra-wattage or 12 V margin for all builds.
Check the exact RX 570 model
Graphics-card makers can specify different power consumption and connector requirements for their RX 570 boards. Two MSI examples illustrate the variation:

| Model | Manufacturer-stated power consumption | Recommended PSU | Power connector |
|---|---|---|---|
| MSI RX 570 Gaming 4G | 120 W | 450 W | One 8-pin |
| MSI RX 570 Armor 4G OC | 150 W | 450 W | One 8-pin |
These are manufacturer specifications, not independent load-test results, and they are examples rather than a rule for every RX 570. Find the precise model name on the card, its packaging or its product listing, then follow that model’s documentation.
What to verify before using a 450 W PSU
- Identify the graphics card. Look up its exact board-partner model and confirm the manufacturer’s PSU recommendation and auxiliary power connector.
- Check the PSU’s model and condition. A wattage label alone does not establish whether a particular unit is suitable for the complete system. Consider the PSU’s actual model and whether it is in working condition.
- Confirm the cable is native and correct. The two MSI models above specify one 8-pin connector. Check the PSU documentation and cable labels for a matching PCIe power lead. Do not assume an adapter makes an unsuitable PSU appropriate; consult both manufacturers’ instructions if the connection is unclear.
- Account for the whole PC. The processor and other components affect the system’s power needs. Without those details, a 450 W recommendation cannot confirm compatibility for an individual build.
When 450 W may not be enough
A 450 W unit may be unsuitable if it does not provide the connector required by the exact card, is not appropriate for the complete system, or is in poor condition. The available manufacturer specifications do not establish a universal higher wattage, a fixed headroom formula or a single 12 V threshold, so those should not be treated as rules for every RX 570 build.
Rank #2
- ATX PSU. Delivers 500 Watt Continuous output
- 80 PLUS Bronze certified, with 85% efficiency or higher under typical loads
- 5 Year Warranty and heavy protection including OVP/UVP/OPP/SCP
- All cables are black and not ketchup and mustard colored
- 120mm ultra quiet fan with excellent cooling performance
If replacing the PSU, choose one that meets the exact card maker’s recommendation, fits the needs of the complete PC and includes the required native PCIe cable. Verify compatibility from the PSU and graphics-card makers’ documentation rather than relying on wattage alone.
