Yes—7 Days to Die supports cross-platform play between PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S through the V1.2 Crossplay update. The official 7 Days to Die account announced that the update lets Xbox, PlayStation, and PC players play together. That confirmation applies most clearly to the game’s peer-to-peer crossplay sessions.
Playing with friends? Godlike.Host runs hosted 7 Days to Die servers from 10 data-center locations, with free DDoS protection.
Dedicated-server crossplay is less certain. Community guides disagree about which game versions support it and whether it arrived with V2.0, V3.0 Dead Hot Summer, or another major update. If you are renting or running a dedicated server, verify the exact version’s release notes and configuration file before promising cross-platform access.

Cross-platform, or crossplay, means players using different supported hardware can join the same multiplayer world. In the confirmed V1.2 scope, a player on Steam can play with friends on PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S instead of being restricted to the same platform family.
Cross-progression is a separate feature. The crossplay announcement establishes that players can share a session; it does not establish that character progress, worlds, purchases, achievements, or saves automatically transfer between platforms. Treat crossplay as a multiplayer-connection feature, not as a guarantee that your account data follows you to another device.

The confirmation also does not automatically include older consoles. The published platform list names PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. If you are using a different edition or console generation, check that edition’s current support information rather than assuming it is included.
Supported platforms and what is confirmed
| Platform | Crossplay status | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| PC (Steam) | Confirmed with V1.2 crossplay | PC clients hosting or joining crossplay sessions are reported to require Easy Anti-Cheat. |
| PlayStation 5 | Confirmed with V1.2 crossplay | Must be running the same game version as the host and other players. |
| Xbox Series X|S | Confirmed with V1.2 crossplay | Must be running the same game version as the host and other players. |
| Other editions or older console generations | Not established by the announcement | Do not infer support from the V1.2 platform list. |
The official announcement described V1.2 as a patch available to every platform and specifically said Xbox, PlayStation, and PC players could enjoy cross-platform gameplay. The available V1.2 notes are also reported to describe peer-to-peer crossplay. Because that description comes from a summary rather than a complete reading of the original notes, treat the peer-to-peer detail as probable rather than an exhaustive technical specification.

Peer-to-peer crossplay: the confirmed use case
For a normal hosted session, the important conditions are straightforward:
Rank #2
- Explore – Huge, rich environments, with unique biomes and worlds up to 100 square kilometres in size.
- Craft – Handcraft and repair weapons, clothes, armour, tools, vehicles, with hundreds of recipes and schematics.
- Build – Design your fort with traps, electricity, auto turrets, and gadgets to survive in a fully destructible and mouldable world.
- Cooperate or Compete – Work together to build settlements or against each other in a wasteland where zombies and outlaws rule the land.
- Farm or Hunt – Plant gardens for sustainable resources or head out to the wilderness and hunt over a dozen unique animals.
- Every player must use a supported platform: Steam, PlayStation 5, or Xbox Series X|S.
- Everyone must be on the same game version. A console that has not installed the current patch can fail to see or join a session even when its platform is supported.
- PC players who host or join crossplay are reported to need Easy Anti-Cheat enabled.
- The session should use unmodified, vanilla content. Community guides report that mods disable crossplay.
When these conditions are met, invite or join through the multiplayer options presented by your current game build. Menu wording can change between updates, so follow the labels shown in that build rather than an older screenshot or video.
Why version matching matters
Crossplay is implemented by a particular game build, not simply by the name of the platform. A Steam client on one build and a console client on another may be unable to negotiate a session or may be sent to different matchmaking paths. Have every player check for pending updates, restart the game after patching, and compare the displayed build information before troubleshooting network settings.
Why mods are a hard boundary
Community setup guides consistently warn that mods disable crossplay. A modded PC installation may still work in a PC-only session, but it should not be used when PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S players need to connect. Remove client-side mods, custom server assets, and altered configuration packs when testing a cross-platform session. Restore modifications only after confirming that the unmodified session works, and expect crossplay to stop again if the modded content is reintroduced.

- Build - Take over a ruin, or build from the ground-up. Design your fortress to include traps and defensive positions to survive the undead

Easy Anti-Cheat on PC
Reported V1.2 notes say Easy Anti-Cheat is required for PC clients that host or join crossplay sessions. If a PC player launches with anti-cheat disabled, that player may be able to use a PC-only session but fail when connecting to a console participant. Use the standard game launch option that enables anti-cheat, and do not treat a successful PC-only connection as proof that crossplay requirements are satisfied.
Dedicated-server crossplay: what is known and what is not
A dedicated server is a separately running server process rather than a player’s local, peer-to-peer host. This distinction is the source of most conflicting advice. One community article says dedicated servers do not support crossplay and limits PC, Xbox, and PlayStation users to their own platform groups. Other guides claim dedicated-server crossplay arrived with V3.0 Dead Hot Summer, while another says it was confirmed for a forthcoming major update. Those claims cannot all be correct, and no single official dated release note in the available material resolves the disagreement.
Several guides associate the required settings with V2.0 or later, but that is not an official guarantee that every V2.0 or newer server supports the feature. The only safe rule is to check the exact server build, its current official release notes, and the configuration options exposed by the host. Do not rent a server on the assumption that a generic “crossplay” article applies to its image or version.

| Question | Reliable answer |
|---|---|
| Does peer-to-peer crossplay exist? | Yes, for PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S under V1.2. |
| Does every dedicated server support crossplay? | No such universal guarantee is established. |
| Which dedicated-server release added it? | Unsettled. Community sources cite different versions, including V2.0 and V3.0. |
| Should a server owner check version-specific documentation? | Yes. Confirm the build and its official configuration reference before changing settings. |
Reported dedicated-server settings
Third-party guides commonly list the following values for a crossplay-capable dedicated server. They are operational leads, not a fully verified official specification, so use the property names and limits only after confirming that they exist in your server’s own configuration reference.
| Setting or condition | Reported value | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
ServerAllowCrossplay |
true |
Guides say this ships disabled and must be enabled for crossplay. |
EACEnabled |
true |
Reported as required for crossplay, particularly for PC clients. |
IgnoreEOSSanctions |
false |
Guides list the non-ignoring value; do not change it without understanding your server’s security documentation. |
| Player cap | Eight or fewer | One guide reports that a higher cap disables crossplay. This limit is not independently confirmed here. |
| Content | Vanilla, with no mods | Community guides report that mods disable crossplay. |
The location of these controls also varies. One guide describes a host-panel toggle labelled something like “Crossplay Enabled,” while others direct owners to serverconfig.xml. Do not assume that a missing panel switch means the feature is unavailable, or that a property copied from another host has the same effect. Open the configuration file supplied with your own server image, search for the exact property names, and compare them with the release notes for that version.
How to test a dedicated server safely
- Record the server build. Write down the exact 7 Days to Die version shown by the server host or startup output. Include whether the host is using a stable or preview branch.
- Check official version notes. Look for a statement that the build supports crossplay on dedicated servers. If the notes are silent, treat support as unconfirmed rather than assuming that a community guide is current.
- Back up the configuration. Save a copy of
serverconfig.xmland note the original values before editing. A host panel may overwrite manual changes during a restart. - Enable only documented properties. If the file contains
ServerAllowCrossplay, set it totrue. Confirm the spelling and capitalization in the file supplied with your build; do not invent a new key because a tutorial used a similar name. - Verify anti-cheat. Set
EACEnabledtotruewhere that property is present, and ensure PC players launch with anti-cheat enabled. - Keep sanctions enforcement enabled. Guides list
IgnoreEOSSanctions=false. Leave it at that value unless the server documentation for your version says otherwise. - Keep the test small. Use no more than eight players while testing, because one guide reports that a higher cap disables crossplay. Treat this as a compatibility check, not a universal capacity rule.
- Remove all mods. Test with the server files and clients in their vanilla state. A successful connection with mods removed does not make those mods crossplay-compatible.
- Restart and inspect the startup result. Confirm that the server accepted the settings and did not rewrite or ignore them. If the host panel shows a separate toggle, check that it still matches the file after restart.
- Invite one player from each platform. Start with one Steam player, one PlayStation 5 player, and one Xbox Series X|S player. Add more users only after all three can join the same world.
Host panel versus serverconfig.xml
Managed hosts often provide a graphical panel, while self-managed installations expose the XML file directly. The interface is not standardized: a panel may present a “Crossplay Enabled” switch, hide the underlying property, or write a different configuration file when the server is assigned to a new instance.
Best Value
- Explore & Craft - Huge, unique and rich environments, offering the freedom to play the game any way you want while you craft and repair weapons, clothes, armor, tools, vehicles, and more.

- Use the panel’s save or apply action before restarting.
- After saving, open the generated configuration if the host permits it and confirm that the intended property was written.
- If a panel and file disagree, treat the panel as the source of truth only when the host’s documentation says it owns that setting; otherwise contact the host with the exact server version.
- Keep a copy of the last known-good configuration so you can roll back one change at a time.
Never copy a complete configuration from a different game version without comparing property names. Dedicated-server settings can be added, removed, or renamed between major updates.
Joining from PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S
- Update the game on every device and restart it once the update finishes.
- On PC, choose the normal anti-cheat-enabled launch path for a crossplay session.
- Make sure the host is using a vanilla world and that no participant has client modifications that disable crossplay.
- Use the in-game multiplayer, invite, or server-join controls shown by your build. If the server is not listed, use the host’s documented address or invitation method rather than guessing at a port or menu label.
- If a player can join a same-platform session but not the mixed-platform session, stop changing network settings until you have checked version, anti-cheat, mods, and the server’s crossplay setting.
Troubleshooting crossplay failures
| Symptom | Most useful checks |
|---|---|
| A console player cannot see the session | Confirm that the host is on a crossplay-capable build, all clients are updated, and the server is not modded. For a dedicated server, verify the crossplay property in the active configuration. |
| PC players connect, but console players are rejected | Launch the PC client with Easy Anti-Cheat, remove mods, and check that the server is not configured for a PC-only platform group. |
| The server starts but crossplay remains unavailable | Check whether the host panel overwrote ServerAllowCrossplay, whether the player cap exceeds eight, and whether the specific server version actually supports dedicated crossplay. |
| One player receives a version or build error | Install the pending update on that device, restart the game, and compare the displayed build with the host before trying again. |
| A modded world works for PC users but not consoles | This is expected according to community guidance. Remove the mods and test a vanilla world; do not assume a client-only mod is harmless. |
| A guide’s setting is missing | Check the exact serverconfig.xml shipped with your build and the host panel for that build. Do not add an undocumented property based solely on a tutorial. |
Choosing a hosting method
| Hosting method | Best use | Crossplay consideration |
|---|---|---|
| Peer-to-peer session | A small group where one player can host | V1.2 crossplay is confirmed for Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, subject to version, anti-cheat, and vanilla-content requirements. |
| Managed dedicated server | A persistent world that should remain available without the original host | Verify the host’s exact game image and release notes. Look for a crossplay toggle and confirm which file it edits. |
| Self-managed dedicated server | Owners who need direct control of files and restarts | Inspect serverconfig.xml, apply the reported settings cautiously, and test with eight or fewer players and no mods. |
A dedicated server is not automatically a better crossplay option. It adds configuration and version-management work, and the available guidance does not establish one universal release at which every dedicated server became cross-platform.

Pre-launch checklist
- Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S are the only platforms covered by the V1.2 confirmation.
- Every player and the server are on the same game version.
- PC participants use Easy Anti-Cheat for the crossplay session.
- The world and clients are running vanilla content with no mods.
- For a dedicated server, crossplay support is confirmed for the exact build, not merely for an older guide.
ServerAllowCrossplay=true,EACEnabled=true, andIgnoreEOSSanctions=falsematch the version’s documented configuration where those properties are available.- The test server has eight or fewer player slots if you are following the community-reported compatibility limit.
- The host panel and
serverconfig.xmlagree after a restart.
Bottom line
7 Days to Die is cross-platform for PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S through the V1.2 crossplay update. Peer-to-peer play is the clearly confirmed scenario. Dedicated-server crossplay depends on the server’s game version and configuration, and current community claims conflict about when support was introduced. Verify the exact build, use vanilla content, keep Easy Anti-Cheat enabled, and test the reported settings before inviting a mixed-platform group.
