How did Austria come back?
Austria scored twice in the second half to turn Ireland’s 2-0 advantage into a 2-2 draw. The FAI report says the goals came six minutes apart. That short spell changed the match’s outcome: Parrott’s two-goal performance remained the headline, but Ireland left with a draw rather than all three points.
Why was the match briefly interrupted?
The BBC match report says play stopped twice in the first half. Tennis balls marked with a Palestine flag and the words “Stop the Game” were thrown onto the pitch; later, a person carrying a Palestine flag entered the field and was removed by security. The Irish Times match commentary also described protests and the possibility of a pitch invasion in the pre-match discussion. Those reports establish what interrupted play; they do not, by themselves, justify broader claims about the participants’ motives.

What was the Israel-clash context?
Ireland’s match against Austria followed a 3-0 win over Israel in Debrecen, Hungary, reported by the Associated Press. The AP report said at the time that Ireland and Israel were due to meet again on October 4 in Bačka Topola, Serbia. That was a contemporaneous fixture notice, not confirmation of the fixture’s current status or arrangements.

After the Austria match, Ireland manager Heimir Hallgrímsson praised Parrott’s solo effort, saying: “I hope he continues to improve, but it is magical for Irish football to have him in a green shirt,” as reported by BBC Sport.
