IREDA Share Price Fall: Should Investors Hold, Buy More or Exit?

A falling IREDA share price is not, by itself, a reason to buy, hold or sell. The decision depends on whether your investment thesis still holds, whether current valuation compensates for the risks, and whether the position fits your time horizon and risk limits. The latest dated snapshot available here put IREDA at about ₹109 at the NSE close on 6 October 2026; that price movement does not establish why the stock fell or whether it is undervalued.

What the latest snapshot shows—and what it does not

Market-data pages reported these figures for IREDA as of 6 October 2026. They are dated secondary-source snapshots, not a live quote; check current exchange data before acting.

Measure Reported figure Source and qualification
NSE closing price About ₹109 Downstox, reported for 6 October 2026.
One-year share performance Down 27.89% Upstox, in its 6 October 2026 snapshot.
52-week range ₹107.40–₹158.70 Upstox, in the same dated snapshot.

These figures describe the share’s recent performance; they do not establish a single cause for the decline, a fair value, or the likelihood of a recovery. A past high is not a valuation estimate, and a lower quote alone does not make a share cheap.

What the latest reported growth says—and leaves unanswered

A Downstox summary of Q1 FY27 results reported revenue of about ₹2,236 crore, up 16.2% year on year, and net profit of about ₹339 crore, up 37.1% year on year. These are secondary-source figures: confirm the exact numbers and whether they are standalone or consolidated in IREDA’s official Q1 FY 2026–27 filing before relying on them.

Even if the figures are confirmed, growth in revenue and net profit is only part of a lender’s investment case. It does not, on its own, show whether borrowers are repaying, how much the company is provisioning for potential losses, whether lending margins are holding up, how expensive funding has become, or whether more capital or share issuance may be needed.

Why might IREDA shares have fallen?

The available evidence does not establish one authoritative cause for the full decline. A share price can fall while reported earnings grow: investors may revise the valuation they are willing to pay, or become more concerned about risks that are not captured by headline growth. Those are possible mechanisms, not confirmed explanations for IREDA’s move.

IREDA finances renewable-energy projects as a non-banking financial company (NBFC). For a lender, stronger disbursement or loan-book growth needs to be assessed alongside repayment performance, provisions, funding costs, margins, capital requirements and dilution. To test any proposed explanation for the share-price move, compare dated market data with the company’s filings; do not infer causation from events that merely occurred around the same time.

A specific historical credit event to put in context

In financial statements filed with the NSE, IREDA disclosed that a borrower exposure of ₹783.34 crore outstanding as of 30 June 2025 had been reclassified as an NPA (Stage III). The filing described falsified documents and IREDA’s fraud finding. This is a specific historical credit event that merits attention when assessing credit controls and portfolio quality; it is not evidence that the entire loan book has the same risk.

What to check before deciding

IREDA’s official investor-results archive lists Q1 FY 2026–27 results and presentations, and the NSE filings archive surfaces audited FY26 filings. Use the filed statements and compare them with earlier periods rather than relying on a price chart or a headline summary.

  • Asset quality: Review gross and net non-performing assets (GNPA and NNPA), new slippages, recoveries and credit costs. Check whether changes are broad-based or concentrated in particular borrowers or sectors.
  • Provisions: Look at provisions relative to stressed exposures and how they affect profit. Rising profit alongside rising credit costs may tell a different story from growth supported by stable asset quality.
  • Margins and funding: Examine net interest margin (NIM), lending spreads, borrowing costs and funding mix. A growing loan book is less compelling if funding becomes materially more expensive or margins weaken.
  • Capital and per-share economics: Check capital adequacy, the company’s funding needs and any equity issuance. New capital can support lending, but dilution can affect each existing share’s claim on future earnings.
  • Valuation: Compare market value with a reasoned estimate of sustainable earnings and book value. Use current, comparable figures; neither the recent low nor the previous high supplies a fair-value answer.

The available figures do not provide a complete current set of these ratios, so they are not enough to conclude that IREDA is undervalued or that its risks are contained.

Hold, buy more or exit: a decision framework

Hold if the thesis still fits your portfolio

A hold can be reasonable when your original thesis remains intact, the latest filings support the credit and funding assumptions behind it, and the position still suits your investment horizon and ability to withstand volatility. Set the conditions that would change your view—for example, a material deterioration in asset quality, funding access or margins—and revisit them when new filings arrive. Do not treat “I will wait until it gets back to my purchase price” as an investment thesis.

Buy more only with a fresh valuation case

Averaging down increases the amount of your capital exposed to one company. Before adding, estimate a defensible valuation range from sustainable earnings and book value, then test how it changes under slower disbursement growth, higher provisions, costlier funding and possible dilution. Decide on a maximum position size and loss tolerance before placing an order. The lower share price and reported profit growth alone do not establish that the shares are cheap.

Reduce or exit when the risk no longer makes sense

Reducing or selling may be rational if the investment thesis has broken, the position is too concentrated for your risk tolerance, the company’s credit or funding metrics worsen beyond your limits, or the capital has a better risk-adjusted use elsewhere. The disclosed historical NPA is a reason to examine portfolio quality, not an automatic sell signal. Your purchase price is relevant to taxes and portfolio accounting, but it does not determine what the shares are worth now.

How to compare IREDA with alternatives

If you are considering another lender or a different way to invest in renewable energy, compare like with like: use the same valuation date and accounting periods, and distinguish a lender from a project developer. A useful comparison includes:

  • Price-to-book and earnings multiples, based on comparable periods.
  • Loan-book growth alongside GNPA, NNPA and credit costs.
  • NIM or lending spreads and the cost of funds.
  • Capital adequacy, funding access and potential dilution.
  • The role the investment would play in your portfolio, including its concentration and risk relative to alternatives.

No complete peer dataset or supported target price is available here, so a ranking of IREDA against other companies would be unwarranted.
