On specifications, the China-launched iQOO 16 moves ahead with a 165Hz display, a newer Snapdragon platform and an 8,400mAh battery. The iQOO 15 lists a 144Hz display and a 7,000mAh battery. That makes the 16 the more ambitious choice on paper, but not automatically the better buy: its availability and support outside China are uncertain, and the published figures do not prove better real-world gaming, battery life or camera results.

What changed from iQOO 15 to iQOO 16?
Higher refresh-rate ceiling
iQOO lists the 15’s 6.85-inch AMOLED panel at 3168 × 1440 and up to 144Hz. IT之家 reports a 6.85-inch 2K screen with up to 165Hz for the 16. That is a higher maximum refresh rate, not a promise that every app or game will display at 165 frames per second. The launch report also relays manufacturer claims of 2,800 nits global peak brightness, 10,000 nits local peak brightness, Samsung M16 material and LEAD 2.0; these are specifications and claims, not independent measurements.
Newer listed processor, without a verified performance margin
The official iQOO 15 specification names Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, while launch coverage identifies a newer Snapdragon 8 generation for iQOO 16 and mentions a dedicated Q4 gaming chip. The launch report also relays claims about a 2nm process, an 8,500mm² vapor chamber and benchmark results. None of those claims establishes sustained frame rates, heat, or efficiency in comparable real-world use. For a gaming decision, look for tests of both phones under the same conditions, including frame-rate stability, temperature, screen brightness and battery drain.

Larger stated battery capacity
The listed capacities are 8,400mAh for iQOO 16 and 7,000mAh for iQOO 15. The 16 therefore has the larger nominal battery capacity, but that does not translate directly into a specific amount of extra screen time. Workload, display settings, software and network conditions affect endurance. The available reports list 100W wired and 40W wireless charging for the 16; iQOO India lists those same headline rates for the 15. Check local SKU details before assuming charging behavior or accessories are identical in your market.
Similar camera outline, no proven winner
iQOO India specifies three 50MP rear cameras for the 15: main, ultrawide and 3× periscope, plus a 32MP front camera. IT之家 describes the 16 with a 50MP main, an ultrawide and a 50MP periscope telephoto. The available information does not establish which phone produces better photos or video. In particular, a camera comparison in the launch coverage refers to the iQOO 15 Ultra, not the iQOO 15 in this article, so it is not evidence of a 15-versus-16 advantage.

Which phone should you buy?
Choose iQOO 16 if its upgrades match your priorities
- You want the higher advertised refresh-rate ceiling, newer listed Snapdragon generation or larger stated battery capacity.
- You can buy a version intended for your market, with suitable local warranty and service.
- You have checked the price and exact configuration locally rather than assuming China launch pricing applies.
Choose iQOO 15 if local value and support matter more
- It is officially sold where you live and costs meaningfully less than the iQOO 16 option available to you.
- Its 144Hz display and 7,000mAh stated capacity meet your needs.
- You prefer a purchase with confirmed regional warranty, compatibility and repair access over importing a model with uncertain support.
Verify carefully before importing iQOO 16
Before placing an order, confirm supported 4G and 5G bands, warranty coverage, repair availability, software region and the seller’s return policy. A China-market specification does not by itself confirm that a handset will work with every carrier or have the same software and support as a regional model.

Is iQOO 16 worth upgrading to?
On listed specifications, it is a more ambitious successor: the refresh-rate ceiling rises from 144Hz to 165Hz, the reported battery capacity increases from 7,000mAh to 8,400mAh, and the listed processor generation is newer. Whether that makes an upgrade worthwhile depends on the local price, availability and support, as well as whether you value those changes. The specifications and launch coverage cited here do not establish that the 16 is faster in sustained use, lasts longer by a particular amount, or takes better photos. For those outcomes, wait for independent comparisons using both phones under comparable conditions.
