What to compare before you subscribe
Start with what your household actually watches, then verify that the service carries those channels where you live. Compare the standard price and add-ons—not just an introductory offer—and check how many people can stream at once, what the DVR includes, and whether the app works on your TV or streaming device.

| Sling | Its official homepage positions the service around live sports and news and lists channels including FS1, TBS, TNT, FOX News, CNN, MSNOW, and BBC World News. It also lists Amazon Fire TV support. | Compare when you have specific sports or news channels in mind, or are considering international packages. | Current plan lineup and price, market coverage, sports rights, and add-on charges. Check local channels, sports, and blackouts
A national channel list cannot tell you whether a specific local station is available at your address or whether a particular game will stream in your market. Hulu states that programming can be subject to regional restrictions and blackouts and directs viewers to check which local and national channels are available in their area. Treat sports availability as a rights question, not a promise implied by a service’s name or headline channel count.
- Look up the provider’s local-channel availability for your location.
- Search the current lineup for the exact channels and sports networks you watch.
- Check event-specific rights and blackout terms for the leagues or games that matter to you.
- Recheck those details before subscribing, since lineups and rights can change.
Work out the real monthly cost
Compare the standard recurring plan price with the features you will actually use. Add the cost of any required channel, sports, or screen add-on, and note when an introductory offer ends. YouTube TV’s page distinguishes promotional pricing from its listed standard plan price and presents add-ons separately; the offers shown there ended September 30, 2026, so they should not be treated as available afterward without confirmation.

For YouTube TV, the page lists the main plan at $82.99 per month, but the actual total may differ if you choose add-ons. The price is provider-stated and subject to change; check the official page for the current rate and terms.
Match screens, accounts, and DVR to your household
“Unlimited DVR” does not answer every recording question. Compare how many streams can run at once, whether household members can use separate accounts or profiles, how long recordings remain available, and whether any feature requires an add-on. The listed services describe these terms differently: YouTube TV states six household accounts and three simultaneous streams; Hulu + Live TV states two screens, an optional Unlimited Screens add-on, and DVR recordings retained for up to nine months; Philo states unlimited cloud DVR saved for a year.

Confirm device support and set up streaming
YouTube TV, Sling, Hulu, and Philo each identify Amazon Fire TV devices in their official device-support information. Compatibility is service- and model-specific, so check the provider’s current device list for your exact TV or streaming device. If your television lacks a supported app, a Fire TV streaming device may provide a way to run a compatible app; it does not include a live-TV subscription or grant access to channels.

The term “IPTV” describes a delivery method in common consumer usage; it does not, by itself, prove that a provider is authorized to distribute the channels or programs it offers. The U.S. Copyright Office’s Title 17, Chapter 1 text sets out statutory licensing provisions for particular categories of secondary transmissions by cable systems and satellite carriers, with conditions, and identifies circumstances in which unauthorized or noncompliant retransmissions can be actionable. Those provisions do not certify the content rights of an internet-TV subscription.

When evaluating a provider, look for an identifiable operator, official apps and support pages, clear subscription terms, and a lineup you can verify. Do not treat claims such as enormous channel counts, universal sports access, or “no blackouts” as established simply because a reseller advertises them.
