A missing UPI notification does not automatically mean your IPO bid was rejected. Check the UPI app’s mandate area, confirm the bid and UPI ID with your broker, and use the approval deadline shown in the request. The IPO application record and UPI mandate are separate records, so both must be reconciled before you decide what failed.

What happens between an IPO bid and a UPI mandate

When you submit an IPO application through a broker using a UPI ID, the request passes through several parties. The intermediary uploads the bid to the stock exchange; exchange checks are sent back through the platform, and the sponsor bank routes a mandate request to the UPI app linked to the submitted ID. The app then displays the request for approval and places a hold on the linked bank account when you approve it. The process is described in the IPO application flow in this SEBI-hosted public-issue offer document.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

Because the route has multiple records, a push notification can be missing even while the bid exists at the broker. Conversely, a mandate can appear in the app while the broker’s application contains a wrong UPI ID, PAN, demat account, bid quantity or price. Treat these as two checks, not one.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The UPI mandate is an authorisation to block funds, not an allotment promise. Approval does not guarantee shares, and seeing an “executed” payment status does not by itself prove that the exchange accepted the application or that shares will be allotted.

First checks when the mandate is missing

Open the mandate screen instead of relying on a notification

In Google Pay, open your profile menu and choose Settings > One-Time Mandates. Inspect the IPO request, status, amount, application information and approval deadline. Google Pay says, “The mandate request is generally received in real-time,” but its guidance allows it to arrive as late as the end of the day. A delayed push alert is therefore not proof that the bid failed. See the current Google Pay IPO mandate setup instructions.

Other UPI apps use different labels. Look for IPO mandates, mandates, pending requests, collect requests or a UPI transaction-history section. Search the app’s help area for IPO rather than assuming the Google Pay menu path is universal. Check the app linked to the exact UPI ID entered in the broker form; looking in a different UPI profile or bank account can make a valid request appear missing.

Read the deadline shown in the request

Every displayed request has an approval deadline. Approve only within that window and do not assume that a request received after the issue’s cut-off can still be accepted. Google Pay’s general FAQ notes that an unapproved request can expire. A SEBI-hosted offer document describes a cut-off of 12:00 pm on the first working day after bid or issue close for pending UPI requests, but that is an issue-process disclosure, not a universal deadline for every IPO. Check the live IPO timetable and the deadline printed in your own mandate.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If you notice the request only after the deadline, do not keep trying to approve it repeatedly. Record the expired status and ask the broker whether the bid can still be processed or whether the issue window has closed. Only the broker and the applicable issue timetable can answer that for the particular offer.

Verify the amount and application details

Before approving, compare the IPO name, bid amount and application reference in the mandate with the acknowledgement from your broker. A request with an unexpected amount or a different issue should not be approved; contact the broker first. Check the number of shares, bid price, cut-off selection where applicable, and the applicant name shown in the request. A small-looking discrepancy can indicate that the broker uploaded a different order or that you are viewing another family member’s request.

Confirm that the broker actually submitted the application

Open the broker’s IPO or order section and save the acknowledgement. Ask support to confirm all of the following:

  • the application number and IPO name;
  • the UPI ID submitted with the bid;
  • the PAN and demat account used;
  • bid quantity, price and amount;
  • whether the exchange validation response was successful; and
  • whether the broker can resend or re-initiate a mandate within the issue timeline.

The broker is the party that can see whether the bid was uploaded and whether the exchange or sponsor-bank response returned an error. Google Pay’s troubleshooting guidance likewise directs executed-status discrepancies and application problems to the broker: Troubleshoot IPO Mandates.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Ask for the exact recorded error rather than a general statement such as “UPI failed.” Useful wording is: “Was my application uploaded to the exchange, which UPI ID was transmitted, what validation response was received, and can you issue a fresh mandate before the cut-off?” Keep the ticket number so later app or bank support can link the calls.

Application status and mandate status are different

A UPI mandate records the payment authorisation and bank hold. An IPO application record records the bid submitted through the intermediary and its validation or allotment outcome. One can be successful while the other is wrong or incomplete.

Record Where to check What to verify
IPO application Broker app or website, acknowledgement, broker support Application number, IPO, bid details, PAN and demat validation, submitted UPI ID and application status
UPI mandate UPI app mandate, pending or history screen; bank if funds are held Mandate status, amount, attached application reference, approval deadline and account hold

If the two records do not match, start with the broker or intermediary. A notification or display problem belongs with UPI-app support; a debit, lien or continuing hold belongs with the issuing bank. Save screenshots showing the date and time, because a status can change while a support ticket is being investigated.

What each mandate status means and what to do

No mandate is visible

  1. Check the app’s mandate and pending-request areas, not just push notifications.
  2. Allow the stated window; Google Pay says an IPO request may take until the end of the day.
  3. Ask the broker whether the bid was uploaded and which UPI ID was used.
  4. If the broker confirms submission but the request remains absent, contact the UPI app’s support and provide the application number, UPI ID and screenshot of the broker acknowledgement.

Do not submit a second bid merely because an alert is late. A duplicate application can create a separate reconciliation problem; ask the broker whether a fresh submission is permitted for that issue. Also check that your phone has data connectivity and that you are signed into the UPI profile containing the submitted ID, but do not treat reinstalling the app or changing notification settings as a substitute for broker confirmation.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Pending or awaiting approval

Open the request and check the issue, amount, application reference and deadline. Approve it with the UPI PIN only when every detail matches your bid. A pending request that reaches its cut-off can lapse. The applicable time is the deadline displayed in the mandate and the issue’s official timetable, not a generic time remembered from another IPO.

Make sure the linked account has enough cleared balance for the full block. A balance that is technically visible but unavailable because of another lien, debit or daily bank restriction can cause approval to fail. Never disclose the UPI PIN to a broker, bank caller or app-support representative.

Wrong UPI PIN or failed approval

Do not keep guessing a PIN. Verify that you are using the PIN for the bank account shown in the request, then ask the broker whether it can resend or re-initiate the mandate. Google Pay’s IPO FAQ explains that a failed request is handled through the broker, not restarted solely from the app: Initial public offering (IPO) FAQs.

If the PIN is correct but the request repeatedly fails, note the exact error text and time. App support can investigate a display or processing error, while the broker must correct the application or generate a new request. Do not create a new UPI ID during the short approval window unless the broker confirms that the application can be updated.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Rejected or expired mandate

An expired or rejected request cannot simply be revived by changing a setting in the UPI app. Contact the broker immediately and ask whether a new request can be generated while the issue is still open for processing. The broker must determine whether the bid itself remains valid and whether the issue rules permit re-initiation.

A rejected mandate is not the same as a rejected IPO application. The payment request may have failed even though the bid record remains under review; alternatively, the exchange or intermediary may have rejected the application for a data or eligibility reason. Ask which record is marked rejected and request the reference number for each.

Mandate says executed, but the broker says unsuccessful

Send the broker the mandate reference, application number, amount, timestamps and screenshots from both systems. Ask it to reconcile the exchange, sponsor-bank and UPI responses. Do not rely on the word “executed” alone: it confirms a UPI action, not guaranteed allotment or a correct application record.

Until the broker confirms the application outcome, do not assume that an executed mandate means you should place another bid. A second application may not fix the original record and can create an additional blocked amount.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Mandate amount does not match the bid

Do not approve an amount that differs from the acknowledged bid. Capture the mismatch and ask the broker whether the bid was modified, split or uploaded incorrectly. If money has already been blocked, include the bank account and mandate reference in the escalation.

Compare the mathematical total as well as the displayed number: quantity multiplied by bid price, plus any issue-specific amount shown by the broker. If the broker says the amount is correct but the app displays another figure, treat it as a reconciliation issue and keep both screenshots for support.

Why an IPO application can be rejected

Check the exact reason recorded by the broker instead of relying on a generic error message. One important eligibility rule in SEBI offer-document disclosures is that an application using a third-party bank account or a UPI ID linked to someone else’s account is liable for rejection. The bank account linked to the UPI ID should belong to the applicant, and the name, PAN, demat details and UPI submission should agree.

Before asking for re-initiation, compare:

  • applicant name and PAN;
  • demat account and beneficiary details;
  • the UPI ID and the bank account holder;
  • IPO, quantity, price and total amount; and
  • the broker acknowledgement against the mandate attachment.

The available official material does not establish one exhaustive rejection list that applies identically to every issue. Issue-specific offer documents and the broker’s recorded validation response control the explanation for your application. Ask whether the problem is a third-party account, PAN or demat validation, a bid-data mismatch, a failed exchange response, or simply a payment request that was not approved in time.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Do not assume that changing the UPI ID after submission automatically repairs the application. The intermediary has to transmit any corrected request through the permitted process, and the issue may no longer accept changes after its cut-off.

A quick decision path

  1. Is there a mandate in the UPI app? If no, check the mandate screen and allow the app’s stated delivery window.
  2. Does the broker show a submitted application? If no, resolve the bid with the broker; the UPI app cannot create an IPO application on its own.
  3. Do the issue, amount, UPI ID and application details match? If no, do not approve and ask the broker to correct or re-initiate it.
  4. Is the request pending and still within its deadline? If yes, approve with the correct account PIN after checking the details.
  5. Has it expired, been rejected or failed? Ask the broker whether a new request is permitted within the issue timeline.
  6. Is money still held after denial or unsuccessful processing? Contact the issuing bank and provide the mandate reference, while asking the broker to reconcile the application.

What happens to money blocked by the mandate

Approving a mandate normally blocks the application amount in the linked bank account; it is not an immediate payment of the full amount to the issuer. Under the NPCI IPO flow, after allotment, the amount for shares actually allotted is debited and excess funds are unblocked. If no shares are allotted, the blocked amount is released after the mandate’s end or expiry and the issue’s processing. The basic flow is outlined by NPCI’s IPO-with-UPI guidance.

If the application is unsuccessful, the mandate is denied, or the request has expired but the bank still shows a hold, record the mandate reference and contact the issuing bank. Google Pay states: “If your mandate was denied, but your money is still being held, contact your issuing bank.” Also notify the broker so it can confirm the application-side status.

A bank hold may appear as a lien or blocked balance rather than a completed debit. Ask the bank whether the hold is active, released, or awaiting an automated reversal. Give it the exact amount, account, mandate reference and denial or expiry time. Do not ask the bank to treat an allotted amount as excess until the broker or registrar confirms the allotment result.

Keep communications in writing where possible. Never share your UPI PIN, password or one-time password with support; legitimate support only needs transaction and application references. If a caller asks you to approve a different collect request or install remote-access software, stop and use the official broker, bank or app support channel instead.

A practical timeline for the next IPO

  1. Immediately after bidding: save the broker acknowledgement and note the exact UPI ID, bank account and bid amount.
  2. During the request window: inspect the UPI app’s mandate area directly and compare every detail before approval.
  3. Before the displayed deadline: approve with the correct bank-account UPI PIN if the request matches; otherwise contact the broker.
  4. After approval: confirm that the bank shows a hold for the expected amount and retain the mandate reference.
  5. After allotment processing: check the broker’s allotment result and bank debit or release. Escalate any continuing hold or conflicting status with both references.

The first working day after issue close can be important for pending requests in some offer documents, including the 12:00 pm cut-off described in the SEBI-hosted document cited above. Treat that as a reminder to check the particular IPO’s timetable, not as a standing rule for every future issue.

How to prevent avoidable mandate failures

  • Use the applicant’s own bank account and a UPI ID linked to that account.
  • Keep PAN, demat and bank-account names consistent with the IPO application.
  • Check the broker’s recorded UPI ID before leaving the application screen.
  • Keep enough cleared balance for the full bid amount and avoid changing or closing the linked account during processing.
  • Turn on UPI-app notifications, but continue checking the mandate screen manually.
  • Save acknowledgements, screenshots, mandate references and deadlines until the hold is released or the allotted amount is debited.
  • Use the issue-specific offer document and timetable for cut-offs; do not copy a deadline from a previous IPO.
  • Use one clearly identified UPI profile and bank account for the application, especially if your phone contains multiple UPI apps or accounts.
  • Review the final order summary before submitting and correct errors before the broker’s submission window closes.

Bottom line

Start by checking the mandate area and its deadline, then reconcile the request with the broker’s application record. A missing alert is usually a timing or routing question, while a rejection requires the broker’s exact recorded reason. Use the applicant’s own linked bank account, never approve a mismatched amount, and take a continuing bank hold to the issuing bank with the mandate reference.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long should I wait if an IPO UPI mandate has not arrived?

Check the UPI app’s mandate or pending area immediately. Google Pay says the request is generally real-time but may take until the end of the day. If it is still absent, ask the broker to confirm the submitted UPI ID and upload status, then contact the app’s support if the broker confirms submission.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Does a missing UPI notification mean my IPO application was rejected?

No. A notification can be delayed or missing while the bid exists. Check the broker’s application record and the app’s mandate screen separately. Only the broker can confirm whether the application was uploaded and validated.

Can I approve an IPO mandate after its deadline?

Do not assume so. Use the deadline displayed in the mandate and the IPO’s official timetable. An unapproved request can expire, and some issue documents specify a cut-off for pending requests. Ask the broker whether re-initiation is permitted.

What if the IPO mandate is rejected but the application still appears in my broker account?

The payment request and bid are different records. Ask the broker whether the bid remains valid and whether it can resend or re-initiate the mandate within the issue timeline. Do not submit a duplicate bid without guidance.

Why was my IPO application rejected even though I approved the mandate?

Approval only authorises a bank hold. The application can still fail validation or eligibility checks. Confirm that the UPI-linked bank account belongs to the applicant and that PAN, demat, bid and UPI details match. Request the precise recorded reason from the broker.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What should I do when an IPO mandate says executed but no shares are allotted?

Executed confirms the UPI action, not allotment. Check the broker’s allotment result and ask it to reconcile the application and mandate references. If funds remain blocked after unsuccessful processing, contact the issuing bank.

Who releases money blocked by an IPO UPI mandate?

In the normal flow, the amount for allotted shares is debited and excess or unsuccessful-application funds are released. If a denied or expired mandate still shows a hold, contact the issuing bank with the mandate reference and notify the broker.

Can I use a family member’s bank account or UPI ID for my IPO application?

Do not do so. SEBI offer-document disclosures state that applications using a third-party bank account or a UPI ID linked to someone else’s account are liable for rejection. Use the applicant’s own linked account.

The Bottom Line

Check both records: the broker’s IPO application and the UPI app’s mandate. Follow the displayed deadline, approve only a matching request, and route each problem to the broker, app support or issuing bank as appropriate.
