Maak eerst een gecontroleerde back-up of zet je gegevens over, ontkoppel gekoppelde apparaten en mobiele diensten, en wis je iPhone of iPad pas als je hebt bevestigd dat je gegevens elders beschikbaar zijn. Wis het apparaat via Instellingen en controleer daarna dat het op het beginscherm voor configuratie staat. Deze volgorde helpt voorkomen dat je gegevens achterlaat of de nieuwe eigenaar met een activeringsslot opzadelt.
Wat doe je voordat je een iPhone of iPad verkoopt?
Doorloop deze stappen in volgorde. De menu- en schermnamen kunnen verschillen per iOS- of iPadOS-versie; raadpleeg bij afwijkende labels de actuele checklist van Apple Support.

- Maak een back-up of zet gegevens over. Kies Begin direct als die optie beschikbaar is, gebruik iCloud of maak een computerback-up. Controleer op het nieuwe apparaat of de gegevens die je nodig hebt er daadwerkelijk zijn voordat je het oude wist. Een onversleutelde computerback-up bevat volgens Apple geen gezondheids- en activiteitsgegevens. Zie gegevens overzetten vanaf je vorige iPhone of iPad en overzetten met Finder, Apple Devices of iTunes.
- Controleer reparaties als je het apparaat inruilt. Bekijk de onderdelen- en servicegeschiedenis. Staat er ‘Voltooi reparatie’, handel die melding dan af voordat je het apparaat voor inruil aanbiedt; volgens Apple kan het apparaat anders niet worden ingeruild.
- Koppel een Apple Watch los. Als de Watch aan de iPhone is gekoppeld, ontkoppel die vóór de overdracht. Bij een Cellular-Watch verwijder je ook het mobiele abonnement van de Watch; bespreek eventuele opzegging met de aanbieder. Apple beschrijft dit in de instructies voor een Apple Watch verkopen, weggeven of inruilen.
- Regel simkaart en eSIM. Haal een fysieke simkaart eruit als die niet met het toestel meegaat. Voor verkoop, inruil of weggeven zegt Apple dat je de eSIM moet wissen. Houd er rekening mee dat een nieuwe activatie later contact met de aanbieder kan vereisen.
- Log uit en wis het apparaat via Instellingen. Open Instellingen → Algemeen → Zet over of stel [apparaat] opnieuw in → Wis alle inhoud en instellingen. Volg de aanwijzingen en voer zo nodig de toegangscode en het wachtwoord van je Apple Account in.
- Controleer de overdracht. Laat het toestel na het wissen op het beginscherm voor configuratie staan. Controleer dat het niet meer aan je account vastzit en dat de benodigde gegevens op je nieuwe apparaat zijn overgezet.
Moet je je iPhone wissen voordat je hem verkoopt?
Ja. Wis het toestel pas nadat je de back-up of gegevensoverdracht hebt gecontroleerd. Apple zegt dat ‘Wis alle inhoud en instellingen’ lokale gegevens en Apple Pay-kaarten verwijdert en diensten uitschakelt. Het verwijdert geen materiaal uit iCloud: de gegevens die in iCloud staan, blijven daar beschikbaar.

Apple schrijft in zijn checklist: “Wanneer je je iPhone of iPad wist, worden ‘Zoek mijn [apparaat]’ en het activeringsslot uitgeschakeld.” Wis daarom via de ingebouwde Instellingen-optie en controleer de uitkomst voordat je het apparaat overdraagt.

Wat moet je weten over eSIM, simkaart en abonnement?
Fysieke simkaart
Verwijder de simkaart als deze niet aan de koper wordt overgedragen. Een simkaart en het bijbehorende mobiele abonnement zijn afzonderlijk van het wissen van het toestel geregeld.
eSIM
Kies tijdens het wissen de optie om de eSIM te verwijderen wanneer je verkoopt, inruilt of weggeeft. Apple’s instructies voor een eSIM wissen behandelen deze situatie. Als je de eSIM verwijdert, kan een nieuwe activatie via de mobiele aanbieder nodig zijn.

Wat als je de iPhone al hebt verkocht en Zoek mijn nog aanstaat?
Je kunt het apparaat op afstand wissen en daarna uit Zoek mijn verwijderen. Volg Apple’s stappen voor een apparaat verwijderen uit Zoek mijn op de iPhone. Is het toestel offline, dan begint het wissen zodra het weer verbinding maakt. Vraag de koper zo nodig mee te werken aan het online brengen van het toestel, maar deel nooit je Apple Account-wachtwoord. Door het apparaat daarna uit Zoek mijn te verwijderen, wordt het activeringsslot uitgeschakeld.
