A reported feature called “Proximity Control” could show an iPhone shortcut when the phone is tapped against or brought near certain LG home accessories. The feature has not been announced by Apple or LG: MacRumors attributed the details to leaker pdfu on October 9, 2026, and described the feature as still in active development. MacRumors’ report is the source for the claimed interface and product lineup.
What the reported Dynamic Island hint might do
According to the leak, bringing an iPhone close to a compatible accessory could surface a prompt rather than requiring the user to find that device in the Home app. The action reportedly depends on the accessory:

- Thermostat-like accessory: a prompt may offer “Open Controls.”
- Camera or wired video doorbell: the prompt may open a camera viewer.
The report also describes a setting to disable proximity controls in the Home app after setup. Its leaked interface text includes “Show controls when you bring your iPhone near your [accessory].” These are reported strings, not publicly confirmed Apple interface labels.

The report describes a possible lineup comprising a thermostat, temperature sensor, deadbolt, wired video doorbell, and security cameras. It does not establish final product names, release timing, availability, or which specific devices would support the feature. These are rumored products, not a confirmed LG catalog.

How the reported feature might recognize an accessory
MacRumors’ account says the accessory may use an NFC tag containing an identifier alongside a Bluetooth Low Energy broadcast. The report says the first tap would provide feedback as setup begins. It also notes that details changed across iOS 27 beta versions, so the implementation and interface could change. Apple and LG have not confirmed this NFC-and-Bluetooth account or specified supported devices and operating-system versions.
Apple does document Nearby Interaction, a framework for apps to interact with supported devices and third-party accessories using Ultra Wideband, including distance and direction information. That is general platform capability; Apple’s documentation does not describe the rumored Home Proximity Control experience.

Dynamic Island is not available on every iPhone
Apple’s iPhone guide says Dynamic Island appears on supported iPhone models and can display alerts and Live Activities. It does not mention LG accessories or proximity-triggered Home controls. The leak says that on iPhone and iPad models without Dynamic Island, a notification would remain visible for 30 seconds. That duration is an unconfirmed detail from the report, not an Apple-documented behavior.
A separate rumored setup flow is not the same feature
The same report describes another possible setup flow: tap an iPhone to an unpowered accessory to transfer pairing identity and network credentials over NFC, then complete setup after the accessory has power. The report characterizes this as HomeKit-specific and says conventional Matter pairing would still be available after power-on. This is a separate reported setup claim; it should not be confused with the proximity hint that may open controls or a camera view.

Apple’s EU proximity pairing is a different, documented feature
Apple documents an EU-specific proximity-triggered pairing program for accessories in pairing mode. With iOS 26.5 or later, an eligible accessory can advertise over Bluetooth LE and prompt pairing, subject to requirements including accessory self-certification, server registration, and a companion app. Apple’s documentation describes this separate pairing capability; it does not verify the rumored LG Home controls.

Apple says its Home app controls compatible accessories and describes setup by scanning an accessory to pair. Its published accessory categories include thermostats, cameras, locks, and sensors. Apple’s current catalog includes the ecobee Smart Thermostat Premium as one thermostat example. These sources establish that the categories exist in Apple’s smart-home ecosystem, not that any current product supports the rumored LG-specific proximity interaction. Until Apple or LG announces the feature and identifies supported products, owners should treat the Dynamic Island hint, its controls, and the rumored accessory lineup as unconfirmed. No current compatibility, release date, or final software requirement is established in the report.
