To move Safari’s address bar to the top on iPhone, open Settings > Apps > Safari > Tabs, then select Top. Safari places its expanded tab bar above webpages.
Move the Safari bar to the top
- Open the iPhone’s Settings app.
- Tap Apps, then Safari.
- Scroll to Tabs.
- Select Top.
This setting changes the bar’s layout; you do not need to drag it on a webpage. Apple documents these steps in its iPhone User Guide for iOS 27. The cited instructions are for that guide version; the exact route for earlier iOS versions is not established here.

What the three Tabs options change

Apple calls this control the tab bar. It contains Safari’s address and search field, so choosing Top moves that field above the webpage along with the expanded bar.

If the address field is missing
The toolbar may be hidden rather than positioned at the bottom. Apple’s Safari customization guide explains that Hide Toolbar hides the search field. Tap the bottom of the screen to bring it back.
