iPhone Duo vs. Other Foldable Phones: Which Features Matter Most?

The most important foldable-phone features are not the largest numbers on a specification sheet. Compare how comfortable each phone is when closed, how useful its inner screen is when open, what evidence exists for hinge and water resistance, whether its cameras fit your shooting habits, how battery claims were measured, and which software features you will actually use.

Apple’s announced iPhone Duo takes a different approach from the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold and Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7. It has the smallest cover display of the three but emphasizes iOS continuity, a glare-reducing nano-texture option and a relatively compact folded experience. Google and Samsung offer larger inner displays and different approaches to cameras, multitasking and durability. The figures below are manufacturer specifications and claims, not results from a shared independent test.

The three phones at a glance

This comparison uses Apple’s iPhone Duo announcement dated September 9, 2026; Google’s Pixel 10 Pro Fold announcement dated August 20, 2025; and Samsung’s US Galaxy Z Fold7 product page accessed in 2026. Samsung specifications can differ by country, carrier or model.

Feature Apple iPhone Duo Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7
Cover / inner display 5.4 / 7.6 inches; matching aspect ratio; ProMotion; Always On; claimed peak outdoor brightness up to 3,000 nits 6.4 / 8 inches; Google says both displays reach up to 3,000 nits 6.5 / 8.0 inches
Surface and crease information Nano-texture finish claimed to reduce glare, reflections and crease visibility Upgraded foldable display highlighted; no comparable crease measurement supplied Display and hinge described; no comparable crease measurement supplied
Durability claim IP68; titanium, 3D-printed hinge cover and layered inner-display reinforcement IP68; gearless hinge claimed to be twice as durable as Pixel 9 Pro Fold and tested for more than 10 years of folding IP48; Armor FlexHinge; protection against particles larger than 1 mm and a stated fresh-water immersion test
Rear cameras 48MP main, optical-quality 2x from the main camera, 48MP ultra-wide Triple-camera system with a 48MP main camera; up to 20x Super Res Zoom 200MP wide, 12MP ultra-wide and 10MP 3x optical telephoto
Battery claim Up to 31 hours video playback on the inner screen, 44 hours on the outer screen, or up to 24 hours mixed use Up to 30+ hours; 50% wired charge in 30 minutes 4,400mAh; up to 24 hours video playback
Software and multitasking iOS 27 adapts across both displays; Apple Pencil with USB-C support planned later in 2026 Adjustable two-app split-screen and drag-and-drop One UI 8 and Galaxy AI; AI availability varies by region, operating system, model and carrier

None of these numbers establishes an overall winner. A peak-brightness figure is not a measurement of average outdoor readability, an IP code does not describe hinge wear, and a zoom label does not predict every photograph. Use the specifications to identify likely strengths, then match them to your own routine.

1. Judge the phone closed before judging it open

You will carry and unlock a foldable while it is closed far more often than you will use the large screen. The cover display controls quick replies, calls, navigation checks, two-factor codes and one-handed typing. A large inner panel cannot compensate for a cover screen that feels cramped or awkward to you.

iPhone Duo: compact cover-screen priorities

Apple lists the iPhone Duo’s cover display as 5.4 inches with the same aspect ratio as its inner display. That can appeal to people who want a narrower, more traditional phone for quick tasks and pocket carry. It can also make dense keyboards, spreadsheets or long messages feel less comfortable than on the larger cover screens offered by the other two phones. Try the exact tasks you perform most: composing a message with one hand, entering passwords, trimming a photo and reading a notification without opening the device.

Pixel and Galaxy: more room for closed-screen work

Google and Samsung give their foldables larger cover displays. The extra area may reduce opening and closing for routine tasks, but it does not automatically make either phone easier to hold. Aspect ratio, hinge position, keyboard layout and weight distribution affect comfort as much as diagonal measurement. If you routinely type on the outer screen, test the keyboard rather than relying on the advertised size.

2. Treat inner-screen size, finish and brightness as separate decisions

The inner screen is where a foldable earns its premium: reading, documents, video, photo editing and two-app work all benefit from more space. Google and Samsung list 8-inch-class inner displays, while Apple lists a smaller 7.6-inch panel. That difference is meaningful for side-by-side work, but screen area alone does not determine visibility or pleasure.

Surface finish and reflections

Apple says its nano-texture finish reduces glare, reflections and the apparent visibility of the crease. The claim may matter if you use a foldable under office lighting, near windows or outdoors. The available manufacturer material does not provide a common independent reflectance test, so do not assume the Apple finish is objectively brighter or that either competitor has a more visible crease in every situation.

Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold - Unlocked Smartphone with Gemini Moonstone 256GB | Android foldable phone, 8-inch Super Actua Flex display, 24+ hour battery, hands-free video, advanced Pixel Camera
  • Unfold extraordinary with Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold; with Pixel’s largest screen and Gemini, Google’s most advanced AI, it’s made for multitasking and entertainment[1]
  • Unlocked Android phone gives you the flexibility to change carriers and choose your own data plan[2]; it works with Google Fi, Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, and other major carriers
  • Get a head start on syncing your data before it even arrives: After you purchase your new Pixel, look for an email that explains how to transfer your photos, videos, passwords, and more in just a few quick steps[14]
  • The gearless, high-strength hinge makes it durable enough to handle about 10 years of folding[3]; plus, Pixel 10 Pro Fold is built with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and has an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance[4]
  • The brighter-than-ever 8-inch Super Actua Flex display is Pixel’s largest screen yet[12]; and you can use Split Screen to plan a trip, drag and drop images, and open multiple apps at once[5]

Brightness claims

Apple claims peak outdoor brightness of up to 3,000 nits, and Google says both Pixel displays reach up to 3,000 nits. Samsung’s cited product information establishes the screen sizes but does not supply a directly comparable peak-brightness figure in this comparison. Peak values usually describe a specific high-brightness mode, not sustained brightness during every app or temperature condition. For outdoor use, look for readable text, low reflections and automatic-brightness behavior in addition to the headline number.

Matching the inner screen to your work

  • Reading and video: prioritize low reflections, comfortable aspect ratio and speakers over a small diagonal advantage.
  • Documents and email: prioritize app layouts that use the wide panel, reliable text scaling and a keyboard you can operate comfortably.
  • Two-app work: prioritize software controls and drag-and-drop behavior, not just the largest panel.
  • Gaming: check whether your games support the inner aspect ratio and whether controls are comfortable near the hinge.

3. Interpret water and dust ratings without treating them as a durability score

Apple and Google state IP68 ratings. Samsung states IP48 and explains that its rating protects against particles larger than 1 millimeter and includes a specified fresh-water immersion test of up to 5 feet for up to 30 minutes. These codes are not interchangeable shorthand for total foldable toughness.

What the ratings do and do not tell you

An IP rating addresses defined ingress conditions. It does not measure hinge fatigue, resistance to drops, pressure on the inner flexible display, sand that enters through a different path, or the cost of repair. Water resistance can diminish after wear or damage, and manufacturers’ test conditions are not a promise that every accident is covered by warranty.

Hinge evidence

Apple describes a titanium construction, a 3D-printed hinge cover and layered reinforcement for the inner display, but its announcement does not give a fold-cycle figure. Google claims its gearless hinge is twice as durable as the hinge in the Pixel 9 Pro Fold and supports more than 10 years of folding; those are Google’s claims, not an independent laboratory result. Samsung highlights its Armor FlexHinge. There is no shared cycle test here, so frequent open-close use should make hinge design and service availability a buying question rather than a presumed winner.

Practical protection

  • Keep grit, receipts and coins away from the hinge and inner display.
  • Do not press on the crease or attempt to remove a factory-applied inner protector unless the manufacturer instructs you to do so.
  • After exposure to water, follow the manufacturer’s drying guidance before charging.
  • Check local repair pricing and warranty exclusions before purchase; an ingress rating does not guarantee a free repair.

4. Compare cameras by lens flexibility and shooting situations

Megapixels alone will not tell you which foldable takes the better photograph. The useful questions are whether you need a true telephoto lens, how often you shoot ultra-wide scenes, and whether you value computational zoom for distant subjects.

iPhone Duo’s two-camera strategy

Apple lists a 48MP main camera, optical-quality 2x from that main sensor and a 48MP ultra-wide camera. This setup covers everyday wide and moderately tight framing without a dedicated long telephoto lens. It may suit people who mostly photograph people, food, travel scenes and documents at ordinary distances.

Pixel 10 Pro Fold’s computational reach

Google describes a triple rear-camera system with a 48MP main camera and up to 20x Super Res Zoom. Super Res Zoom is a computational mode, not the same thing as a dedicated optical telephoto lens. It can be valuable for occasional distant subjects, but the specification does not establish image quality at every zoom level.

Galaxy Z Fold7’s dedicated telephoto

Samsung lists a 200MP wide camera, a 12MP ultra-wide and a 10MP 3x optical telephoto. A dedicated 3x lens gives you a clearly defined optical option for portraits and distant details. The 200MP figure is not directly comparable with Apple’s or Google’s sensor descriptions because processing, cropping and lighting affect the final image.

Camera decision checklist

  • Choose the Galaxy’s specification if a true 3x perspective is central to your photography.
  • Consider Google if you frequently rely on software-assisted zoom and want a stated reach beyond ordinary optical framing.
  • Consider Apple if you prefer a straightforward main-plus-ultra-wide setup and already use iOS photo and sharing features.
  • Before buying, verify camera-app controls, RAW or Pro modes you need, and whether your preferred editing apps support the inner display.

5. Read battery claims as different measurements, not a league table

Apple reports separate video-playback figures for the inner and outer screens plus a mixed-use estimate. Google gives an “up to 30+ hours” claim and a wired charging claim of 50% in 30 minutes. Samsung lists a 4,400mAh battery and up to 24 hours of video playback. Those methods and conditions are different, so no defensible cross-brand ranking can be calculated from them.

Why the same phone can produce different results

Battery life changes with screen brightness, cellular signal, refresh rate, camera use, gaming, background synchronization and whether the inner or outer display is active. Video playback is a controlled scenario; mixed use is closer to daily life but still depends on the manufacturer’s test pattern. Treat each figure as an upper-bound claim under stated conditions rather than a promise for your routine.

Questions to ask before purchase

  • Will you spend long periods on the bright inner display, or mostly use the cover screen?
  • Do you travel where cellular reception is weak, increasing radio power use?
  • Is fast charging more valuable to you than maximum quoted endurance?
  • Does the box include a charger, and what charging standard does your existing adapter support?

6. Software may matter more than a small hardware difference

A foldable is useful only when apps adapt to two displays and a changing window shape. The operating system determines whether opening the phone feels like a continuation of the task or a restart.

iOS 27 continuity

Apple says iOS 27 adapts across the two iPhone Duo displays. That continuity is most valuable if your current work, messages, photos, passwords and accessories already live in Apple’s ecosystem. Apple also announced Apple Pencil support over USB-C for later in 2026. Confirm the release date and compatibility of the specific Pencil and apps you need before treating it as an available feature.

Pixel multitasking

Google specifically describes adjustable two-app split-screen and drag-and-drop. These controls can reduce friction when moving text, images or files between apps. Their usefulness still depends on whether the apps you use support the required window behavior.

Galaxy multitasking and AI

Samsung presents One UI 8 and Galaxy AI as part of the Fold7 experience. AI features can vary by region, operating-system version, model and carrier, so verify the exact functions available on your local device. One UI’s multitasking tools may be a strong fit if you regularly keep communication, reference material and editing tools open together.

7. Choose by use case instead of declaring one universal winner

Your priority What to examine first Likely fit from the stated features
Small, familiar closed-screen feel Cover-screen typing, one-handed reach and iOS continuity iPhone Duo, if its smaller outer display suits your hands
Largest working canvas Inner-screen size, app layouts and split-screen controls Pixel 10 Pro Fold or Galaxy Z Fold7
Glare-sensitive use Surface finish and real-world reflections iPhone Duo’s claimed nano-texture benefit is the clearest stated differentiator; verify in person
Long-distance photography Dedicated telephoto versus computational zoom Galaxy for a stated 3x optical telephoto; Pixel for stated Super Res Zoom reach
Apple ecosystem continuity iOS behavior, existing accessories and app data iPhone Duo
Adjustable Android multitasking Split-screen resizing, drag-and-drop and regional feature support Pixel or Galaxy, depending on the apps and AI tools you use
Water and dust rating on paper IP code plus hinge and display protection Apple and Google state IP68; Samsung states IP48 with its specified particle and water conditions

8. Check availability and regional details before ordering

Apple’s September 9, 2026 announcement says iPhone Duo pre-orders begin October 16 and availability begins October 23, 2026. Those dates should be verified against Apple’s current store status before you place an order. The announcement also mentions an iPhone Duo Folio with an integrated kickstand. Confirm the accessory’s compatibility and regional stock rather than assuming every market receives it at launch.

Google and Samsung availability, storage options, colors, warranty terms and carrier support can vary by country. The Galaxy specifications cited here come from Samsung’s US product page, so use your local product page for final details. Current pricing is not established by the information available for this comparison; check the manufacturer or authorized retailer in your region.

9. A practical pre-purchase test

  1. Use the cover screen for ten minutes. Type a long message, answer a call, authenticate to an account and navigate without opening the phone.
  2. Open the phone and repeat your real work. Place two apps side by side, drag content between them and adjust the split.
  3. Inspect reflections. View dark content under overhead lights and near a window; note how much you must tilt the device.
  4. Test your camera distances. Photograph a nearby document, a person at portrait distance, a wide scene and a distant sign.
  5. Check accessories and services. Confirm stylus support, case availability, repair locations, warranty exclusions and carrier bands for your country.
  6. Estimate your own battery pattern. Include inner-screen video, camera use, gaming, travel and weak-signal areas instead of copying a single advertised number.

Bottom line

The iPhone Duo is the more compelling choice when a compact closed experience, iOS continuity and Apple’s claimed glare-reducing finish matter most. The Pixel 10 Pro Fold and Galaxy Z Fold7 are stronger candidates when a larger cover or inner display, Android multitasking or more flexible camera hardware is the priority. Durability and battery claims remain manufacturer statements, and there is no common independent test here that proves one model is tougher, lasts longer or takes better pictures overall. Choose the phone that fits your closed-screen habits first, then use the inner display, camera and software differences to break the tie.
