For most buyers, the deciding question is whether they want to stay with Apple or Android. The iPhone Duo and Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 both pair a 7.6-inch inner display with a phone-sized outer screen, but they differ in price, weight, protection ratings and accessories. Early specification comparisons do not establish which has the better camera or overall performance, so choose based on the platform and trade-offs that suit you—not a spec-sheet winner.
Which foldable should you buy?
Choose the iPhone Duo if you already use Apple devices and want to keep that ecosystem, or if Apple Pencil USB-C support and MagSafe fit how you use a phone. Choose the Galaxy Z Fold 8 if you prefer Android, want the lighter device according to reported specifications, or place more weight on its lower reported starting price. Those are decision cues, not a verdict based on completed independent testing.

Apple announced the iPhone Duo as its first foldable iPhone on September 9, 2026. Its CEO John Ternus called it “the most transformational change to iPhone since the original”—Apple’s characterization, not independent evidence of how it compares in everyday use. Apple’s announcement

Tom’s Guide’s September 16, 2026 comparison listed both models at 256GB for their starting configurations. It reported the iPhone Duo at $1,999 in the U.S., £1,999 in the U.K. and AU$3,499 in Australia; the Galaxy Z Fold 8 was listed at $1,899, £1,699 and AU$2,699, respectively. On those reported figures, the U.S. base-price difference is $100, with a larger gap in the listed U.K. and Australian prices. Tom’s Guide’s comparison

- Vibrant 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display with OLED technology. Action mode for smooth, steady, handheld videos.
That report said iPhone Duo preorders would open October 16, 2026, with release scheduled for October 23, while the Fold 8 was already on sale at the time. Prices and availability can change and vary by region; check current local listings before buying.
What do the screens and folded designs offer?
Apple lists a 5.4-inch outer Super Retina XDR display and a 7.6-inch inner Super Retina XDR display for the iPhone Duo. TechRadar reports the Fold 8 has a 5.5-inch cover display and a 7.6-inch inner display. The reported inner diagonals are the same, while Samsung’s cover screen is slightly larger. Diagonal measurements alone do not establish how comfortable either phone is to hold or how useful its unfolded screen will be for your apps. Apple’s display specifications · TechRadar’s comparison

TechRadar describes Apple’s display surface as nano-texture and Samsung’s as an anti-glare coating, but says their relative performance remains to be seen. Tom’s Guide describes both designs as wide and passport-like and says each reduces the visible crease; it also cautions that the Fold 8 crease could become more prominent with use, while the Duo still needed release testing. These descriptions do not substitute for a direct, long-term comparison of glare or crease visibility. Tom’s Guide’s comparison
How much do weight and protection matter?
TechRadar reports the iPhone Duo at 254g and IP68, and the Galaxy Z Fold 8 at 201g and IP48. That makes the Fold 8 lighter by the reported figures, while the Duo has the higher listed ingress-protection rating. Treat these as comparison specifications, not independent durability or water-resistance test results. A rating does not make a foldable immune to damage, and weight preferences depend on how and where you carry the phone. TechRadar’s comparison

Do cameras or speed make one the clear winner?
Not on the available comparison evidence. TechRadar reports dual 48MP rear cameras on the iPhone Duo and two 50MP rear cameras on the Fold 8. Tom’s Guide says both have main and ultrawide cameras but no telephoto camera, and notes that a tested Duo camera comparison was still pending. Megapixel counts do not establish which phone takes better photos.
Tom’s Guide lists an A20 Pro chip for the Duo and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for the Fold 8, but says a fuller head-to-head assessment remained pending. Those component names are not a substitute for comparable real-world performance testing. Tom’s Guide’s comparison · TechRadar’s comparison

What about battery life, charging and accessories?
TechRadar says Apple does not publish the Duo’s battery capacity and relays Apple’s own playback figures: 31 hours on the inner display and 44 hours on the outer display. Those are Apple-reported figures, not an independent comparative battery test, so they do not show how the Duo fares against the Fold 8 in a matched daily-use test. TechRadar’s comparison
9to5Mac reports wired charging figures of 0–73% in 30 minutes for the Fold 8 and 50% in the same time for the Duo, and says the Duo supports MagSafe while the Fold 8 lacks built-in magnets for Qi2 wireless charging. These are outlet-reported claims; charging results depend on conditions and should not be treated as a controlled comparison. 9to5Mac’s comparison

Use your ecosystem as the tie-breaker
Moving from iPhone to Android—or the other way around—can mean changing how you use apps, services, accessories and other devices. 9to5Mac’s observation is that many buyers prefer to stay in their existing Apple or Android ecosystem; it is editorial analysis, not a quantified survey. If you are already happy with your platform, the small differences in screen dimensions may matter less than whether you want to switch. 9to5Mac’s comparison
Quick Recap
- Lean toward iPhone Duo: you want to stay with Apple, or its reported Apple Pencil USB-C and MagSafe support suits your accessories.
- Lean toward Galaxy Z Fold 8: you want to stay with Android, or the reported lower U.S. starting price and lower weight matter more to you.
- Wait for direct tests: camera quality, sustained performance, battery life and screen treatment are central to your choice.
