The iPhone Duo-style animation can be made to appear on a Galaxy Z Fold 8, but the available evidence does not verify a four-animation test or establish that only one option worked. The original viral effect was a proof of concept, not a native One UI animation; a separate project, Duo Fold Live, describes a more developed overlay but says it has been tested only on the Galaxy Z Fold 8 SM-F971U.
What the iPhone Duo-style animation is meant to do
The visual idea is a transition between the cover display and the larger inner display that responds as the phone opens or closes. It imitates an effect associated with the iPhone Duo concept, rather than adding an official Apple feature to Samsung’s foldable.

Two different efforts are often conflated: an initial proof-of-concept demo reported in September 2026, and the later Duo Fold Live project. They have different implementations and should not be treated as four interchangeable, verified animation apps.
Why the original demo was not a native fold animation
Coverage of the initial demo says it used hinge sensor readings to time a visual transition, along with a shader and captured images of the two home screens. Because those images were captures, the effect did not transform all the live content on the phone as it folded. PhoneArena also noted a visible timing artifact: the two captured screens could show different clock times during the transition. SamMobile quoted the creator’s explanation: “This isn’t the real SystemUI. Samsung doesn’t provide the necessary access for us to build this as a third-party app. This is a proof-of-concept, not a real launcher.” That is the developer’s statement as relayed by SamMobile, not an official Samsung statement. SamMobile’s report explains why the demo should not be described as a system-wide One UI feature.
How Duo Fold Live differs
Duo Fold Live is a separate, later project. Its project documentation describes it as a free, open-source animation overlay that runs over One UI and ordinary apps without replacing the launcher. The repository lists Android 17 and Samsung wallpaper/API checks among its requirements; its documentation labels the version 3.5.2 and notes an unlock-wallpaper flash issue. These project details can change with releases, so consult the Duo Fold Live repository for its current documentation.

The project says it has been tested only on the Galaxy Z Fold 8 model SM-F971U. It explicitly leaves the Fold 8 Ultra, Fold 7, and other devices unverified. The project author’s community walkthrough likewise describes development and testing on the Z Fold 8 alone. A device appearing in a recognition or compatibility list is not the same as a successful test.
What can—and cannot—be concluded about four attempts
The published reports and project pages establish that a proof-of-concept demo exists and that Duo Fold Live is a distinct project with a stated tested-model limit. They do not identify four animations tried by the article’s author, their builds or installation methods, or which one worked. Nor do they verify the claim that exactly one of four succeeded.

A defensible four-way comparison needs a record for each attempt: the animation name and build, installation and setup method, phone model and software version, what changed while opening or closing, and any artifacts or stability problems. Without those details, attributing a test result to the author—or presenting the developer’s own test as the author’s—is not supported. The available evidence supports a more limited conclusion: the original clip was a screenshot-based proof of concept, while Duo Fold Live claims to offer a broader overlay but reports testing only on the SM-F971U.

How to judge a fold-animation demo
- Access: Check whether the effect uses ordinary app permissions or depends on system-level or root access.
- What moves: Determine whether it animates live app content or transitions between screenshots, wallpaper, or other prepared images.
- Handoff quality: Look for black-screen gaps, mismatched clocks, jumps, or other discontinuities as the display changes.
- Compatibility evidence: Distinguish a developer’s actual device test from a model-recognition check or an unverified compatibility claim.
- Setup and recovery: Confirm installation requirements and how to disable or remove the overlay if it interferes with normal use.
