These are different kinds of phones, so the price gap is not simply a charge for faster or better specifications. The Fold8’s defining extra is its fold-out screen; whether that is worth the premium depends on how often you will use the larger canvas.

What does the Fold8’s larger screen change?
Folded, the Galaxy Z Fold8 works as a phone using its 5.5-inch cover screen. Open it, and the 7.6-inch inner display gives you more room for reading, watching video and viewing multiple items side by side. That larger canvas is the clearest practical reason to pay more; it does not make the Fold8 a universal upgrade for someone who prefers a conventional phone.
The iPhone 18 Pro keeps the familiar single-phone form factor. Its appeal in this comparison is not a competing fold-out screen, but a standard Pro iPhone with Apple’s A20 Pro chip and a 48MP main camera with variable aperture.

Which phone should you choose?
Choose the Galaxy Z Fold8 if
- You expect to use the unfolded screen regularly for reading, media or side-by-side work.
- A foldable form is more useful to you than a conventional phone, and the higher U.S. starting price fits your budget.
- You are choosing among Samsung’s listed storage options of 256GB, 512GB and 1TB.
Choose the iPhone 18 Pro if
- You prefer a conventional Pro smartphone instead of a device that opens into a larger display.
- You want Apple’s stated A20 Pro platform and variable-aperture 48MP Fusion Main camera.
- You need one of Apple’s listed capacities, including 2TB, which is not among the Fold8 options listed here.
These recommendations follow the manufacturers’ feature descriptions; they are not the result of hands-on testing. The available information does not establish which phone has better camera output, battery life, durability or real-world performance. Megapixel counts and processor names alone cannot settle those comparisons.

Which model and price details should you verify?
- Storage: The starting prices are entry-point figures, not a same-capacity comparison. Compare the price of the capacity you will actually buy on each live listing.
- Offers: Trade-in values, carrier terms, promotions and taxes can change the amount you pay. Samsung’s listed $1,899.99 starting price is before trade-in.
- Region: The prices and Fold8 weight above refer to Samsung’s U.S. page. Samsung Australia’s regional Fold8 guide includes details that should not automatically be applied to U.S. configurations. It gives a July 22, 2026 unveiling date; Apple says U.S. availability for iPhone 18 Pro begins September 18, 2026, following its September 9 announcement.
