iPhone 18 Pro Max vs Galaxy S26 Ultra: Samsung’s Big Advantage—and Who Should Buy It

The Galaxy S26 Ultra has a clear advantage if you want an included S Pen, a built-in Privacy Display, and a lighter phone: Samsung reports it at 214 g, while TechRadar lists the iPhone 18 Pro Max at 249 g. That does not make Samsung the better choice for everyone. Apple counters with a variable-aperture camera, MagSafe, a reported higher peak display brightness, and storage options up to 2 TB. The right pick depends on which differences matter in your daily use.

The specifications below combine Samsung’s official product reporting with Apple’s U.S. announcement and TechRadar’s side-by-side comparison. Cross-brand figures attributed to TechRadar are reported comparison data, not a shared independent lab test.

Where Samsung has the practical advantage

Privacy Display for public settings

Samsung Newsroom said on February 25, 2026, that the Galaxy S26 Ultra “introduces the world’s first built-in Privacy Display for mobile phones.” That “world’s first” wording is Samsung’s claim. The feature’s appeal is straightforward: it is designed to limit what people beside you can see on the screen, which may be useful on a train, in a café, or while handling sensitive information in a public place.

An S Pen without an extra accessory

The S Pen is included with the Galaxy S26 Ultra. It gives you a ready-to-use option for handwriting notes, marking up documents, or making precise selections. If pen input is part of your routine, having it built into the phone package is a meaningful difference from choosing a phone without an included stylus.

Less weight to carry

Samsung’s 214 g figure is 35 g below TechRadar’s 249 g figure for the iPhone. That is a measurable difference in a large phone, especially if you carry it for long periods or notice the weight in a pocket or bag. It is not a guarantee of comfort: hand size, cases, and how you hold a phone also matter.

Where the iPhone makes a stronger case

Higher reported peak brightness and MagSafe

TechRadar reports a 3,000-nit peak brightness for the iPhone display versus 2,600 nits for Samsung. Peak figures do not by themselves establish which screen looks better in every situation, but Apple has the advantage on that reported specification. The iPhone also supports MagSafe, which may be decisive if you already use compatible magnetic accessories.

More reported battery capacity, but not a universal endurance verdict

TechRadar reports iPhone battery capacities of 5,391 mAh for SIM models and 5,567 mAh for eSIM-only models, compared with 5,000 mAh for Samsung. It estimates roughly 17 hours of continuous use for the iPhone and 16 hours for the Galaxy. Those are TechRadar’s reported figures and estimates, not a guarantee of the same result for every owner; usage, network conditions, and model variant affect real-world battery life. Apple says eSIM-only models in specified markets gain two additional hours of video playback from the larger battery enabled by removing the physical SIM tray.

Variable aperture and camera choice

The iPhone offers a variable-aperture camera, while TechRadar points to an extra rear camera and greater zoom flexibility on Samsung. The comparison does not establish a universal camera winner with controlled, directly comparable results. If photography is your main reason to upgrade, compare the kinds of images and video you actually take: zoom reach, low-light scenes, motion, video, and each phone’s color rendering.

More top-end storage

Apple lists iPhone 18 Pro Max storage from 256 GB through 2 TB; TechRadar’s comparison lists the Galaxy S26 Ultra up to 1 TB. The starting prices in the cited U.S. figures are close, but the available top storage differs. Check the price for the capacity you need, since a starting-price comparison does not tell you the cost of higher tiers.

How to choose between them

Choose the Galaxy S26 Ultra if

  • You expect to use the included S Pen for notes, markup, or precise input.
  • Reducing screen visibility to nearby people is a priority.
  • You want a large phone with a lower reported weight.
  • You value Samsung’s reported extra rear camera and zoom flexibility, and prefer Android or already use Android devices.

Choose the iPhone 18 Pro Max if

  • You use Apple devices or services and want to stay with iOS.
  • MagSafe accessories matter to you.
  • You prefer the variable-aperture camera or want storage options up to 2 TB.
  • The iPhone’s higher reported peak brightness or TechRadar’s battery-capacity and endurance estimates matter more to you than Samsung’s weight advantage.

Both are premium large-screen phones reported at 6.9 inches and 120 Hz. Decide first whether the S Pen, Privacy Display, and lighter carry are worth more to you than Apple’s camera feature, MagSafe, storage ceiling, and ecosystem. Then compare the exact regional configuration and current price for your preferred storage tier.
