In the United States price snapshot cited here, the Fold8 Ultra starts $1,270 higher at retail than the iPhone 17. The practical choice is whether that foldable screen and its two-mode design are worth the extra cost to you.
iPhone 17 vs Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra: specs comparison
These phones differ first in form factor, not just in a list of components. The iPhone 17 is a standard all-screen handset. The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra has a 6.5-inch cover display for use while closed and an 8.0-inch main display when unfolded, according to Samsung’s US product page, accessed in 2026 (Samsung).

That larger open screen can suit reading, video, and multitasking if you want more display area without carrying a separate tablet. In exchange, you have a folding device with a distinct closed and open mode. Whether that trade-off feels worthwhile depends on your daily use; the available specifications do not establish that one phone is objectively more portable.

| Form factor | Conventional all-screen handset; Apple’s technical-specifications page identifies the model but the figures collected here do not establish dimensions or display size. (Apple) | Foldable, with a 6.5-inch cover display and 8.0-inch main display. (Samsung US, accessed 2026) |

The table is deliberately limited to details established by the cited product information. It does not support a balanced verdict on camera performance, charging, durability, or software-support duration, and it would be misleading to infer those comparisons from a spec sheet alone.

Price difference: US starting-price snapshot
AT&T lists US retail starting prices of $829.99 for iPhone 17 and $2,099.99 for Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, a $1,270 difference with the Fold8 Ultra higher. These are AT&T’s listed retail starting prices, accessed in 2026, not guaranteed unlocked prices or current street prices; exact capacity, taxes, and offers can change the amount paid (AT&T).
Samsung’s US product page separately lists the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra from $2,099.99 before trade-in, accessed in 2026. Trade-in and carrier promotions may lower an individual buyer’s cost, but an offer price is not the same as the list price (Samsung).

Compare the total cost and conditions for the exact storage configuration you want rather than treating a monthly figure as the phone’s retail price.

Choose around screen habits
- Consider iPhone 17 if you want a conventional handset and do not expect to use a much larger unfolded display enough to justify the Fold8 Ultra’s higher cited starting price.
- Consider Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra if you expect to use its 8.0-inch open screen regularly for reading, viewing, or multitasking, and value being able to switch back to a cover-screen mode when closed.
Check the buying details before deciding
- Compare the same country, storage capacity, and purchase type, such as carrier sale versus unlocked retail.
- Separate list price from trade-in credits, installment payments, and promotional discounts; verify eligibility and total payment obligations.
- Check the manufacturer’s current specifications for any details that matter to you but are not established in this comparison, including the iPhone’s exact dimensions and display figures.
