Prices can vary by retailer, storage, carrier, and promotion. For example, AT&T’s comparison page lists different starting retail prices—$829.99 for iPhone 17 and $549.99 for Galaxy A57—and also shows financing offers subject to plans and credits. Those are carrier-specific terms, not universal cash prices. Check the exact storage tier, unlocked or carrier model, taxes, and offer conditions before buying.

Which screen and size are better for you?
The A57’s 6.7-inch display is the larger option, while the iPhone 17’s 6.3-inch screen makes it the more compact choice. Both manufacturers specify refresh rates up to 120Hz. Samsung lists the A57 at 161.5 × 76.8 × 6.9mm and 179g; Apple lists the iPhone 17 at 177g. Their listed weights are close, but the A57 is physically larger.
Choose the Galaxy if screen area is your priority for reading, video, or other tasks that benefit from a larger display. Choose the iPhone if you prefer a smaller handset. The available specifications establish size and refresh-rate differences, not which display looks better in person.

iOS or Android: the bigger platform decision
The iPhone 17 pairs Apple’s A19 chip with iOS; the Galaxy A57 pairs Samsung’s Exynos 1680 with Android 16. The practical choice is largely about the software and services you want to use: consider the devices, apps, accounts, and accessories already in your routine. The listed chip names alone do not establish which phone is faster; the available information here does not provide comparable performance testing.
How do the cameras compare?
Apple lists a 48MP main camera and a 48MP ultrawide camera on the iPhone 17. It also describes a 12MP optical-quality 2x telephoto mode enabled by the main camera; that should not be confused with a separate dedicated telephoto lens. Samsung lists a 50MP wide, 12MP ultrawide, and 5MP macro camera on the A57.

These specifications describe different camera configurations, but megapixel counts and lens counts cannot show which phone produces better photos or video. No comparable controlled camera results are available here, so choose based on your preferred camera features rather than treating the numbers as a quality ranking.
Battery capacity and software support
Samsung specifies a 5000mAh typical battery capacity for the A57. Apple’s cited iPhone 17 technical specifications do not state an equivalent mAh figure, so these figures cannot support a direct battery-capacity comparison or a conclusion about which phone lasts longer. Capacity is not the same as measured runtime.

Samsung says the A57 will receive up to six generations of Android and One UI upgrades and up to six years of security updates. Its regional product page gives security updates through March 31, 2032. That regional support detail should not be treated as a guarantee of identical terms in every market. An iPhone 17 software-support end date is not established by the cited information, so a duration comparison is not possible.
Storage, resistance, and what to check before buying
Apple’s announced iPhone 17 storage options are 256GB and 512GB. Samsung’s U.S. announcement lists the Galaxy A57 in 8GB RAM configurations with 128GB or 256GB storage. Compare the prices of matching capacities rather than assuming the starting-price gap applies to every tier.

Both phones carry an IP68 rating, but the cited descriptions are not identical: Apple specifies up to 6m for 30 minutes under IEC 60529, while Samsung’s U.S. announcement lists IP68 without the same depth-and-duration description. The ratings should not be read as proof that the phones were described under identical test conditions.

- Confirm the exact storage capacity and current price.
- Check whether the model is unlocked or tied to a carrier, and read any financing or promotional conditions.
