There is no evidence-based universal winner between the iPhone 17 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra: the right choice depends chiefly on your preferred platform, existing devices and the features you value. The S26 Ultra has a much larger screen and an S Pen; the iPhone 17 Pro is the smaller option for someone who wants iOS. These are different size classes, and the manufacturers’ specifications do not establish which phone takes better photos or lasts longer in everyday use.

This is a comparison of two specific premium models, not every iPhone against every Samsung phone. The iPhone 17 Pro Max is a more relevant size-class comparison if you want a large iPhone.

Moving from iPhone to Samsung
Samsung says Smart Switch can transfer photos, videos, contacts, notes, calendar events, other apps and device settings from iOS. It also says Quick Share works with supported Apple devices. This can ease a switch, but it does not mean every app, account, setting or item of data transfers or behaves identically; check the items you rely on before changing phones. Samsung’s product page describes the transfer and sharing options.
How different are the screens and handling?
Samsung lists a 6.9-inch display with refresh rates up to 120 Hz for the Galaxy S26 Ultra. Apple lists a 6.3-inch display for the iPhone 17 Pro. The difference is substantial enough to affect one-handed use, pocket fit and how much screen space you get. The published figures describe screen size; they do not establish which display looks better.

If screen size is a deciding factor, compare phones you can hold in person. For a more like-for-like large-phone choice, consider the iPhone 17 Pro Max rather than treating the standard Pro as the same size tier as Samsung’s Ultra.

| Phone | Manufacturer-listed camera hardware | What the specifications do not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Galaxy S26 Ultra | Samsung UK lists 200 MP, 50 MP, 50 MP and 10 MP rear camera modules, with 3x and 5x optical zoom and 2x/10x optical-quality zoom options. | Whether its photos or videos look better in real-world use. |

Megapixel counts and zoom labels describe hardware and modes; they are not a camera-quality verdict. If camera results matter most, compare sample photos and video made under similar conditions, including low light, moving subjects, skin tones and common focal lengths. The specifications here do not provide that comparison. Sources: Samsung UK Galaxy S26 Ultra specifications and Apple iPhone 17 Pro specifications.

Do the battery figures show which lasts longer?
No. Samsung states up to 31 hours of video playback for the Galaxy S26 Ultra. Apple states up to 31 hours for the iPhone 17 Pro and up to 37 hours for the iPhone 17 Pro Max. These are manufacturer estimates, not results from a controlled head-to-head test, so they do not establish which lasts longer for your mix of calls, apps, photography and screen time.
Apple’s Ireland energy-label sheet gives 47 hours of endurance per cycle for one regional model. That is a different measurement from video playback and should not be compared directly with Samsung’s playback figure. Sources: Samsung UK specifications and Apple Ireland specifications.

Samsung’s Galaxy S26 Ultra Product Environmental Report says the phone receives seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates from global launch. Samsung’s UK specification page lists security support through 28 February 2033. Quick Recap
How should you make the final choice?
- Start with the platform you already use. List the apps, services, accessories and devices you depend on. If switching, verify that your essential data and apps will carry over as you need them.
- Choose your size before comparing camera or battery claims. The iPhone 17 Pro is 6.3 inches; the S26 Ultra is 6.9 inches. If you want a large iPhone, include the Pro Max in your comparison.
- Match the phone to your use. Consider whether you want an S Pen, Samsung’s camera options, or continuity with Apple devices. Do not treat megapixels or a manufacturer playback estimate as proof of superior results.
- Compare the actual offer in your country. Check the same storage tier, taxes, carrier terms, trade-in conditions and support information. No single price or value winner follows from the specifications alone.
