There is no universal winner. As of October 13, 2026, the relevant “Galaxy S Ultra” comparison is the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra. Choose it if you want the larger display, built-in S Pen support, or Samsung’s wider set of documented optical and optical-quality zoom choices. Choose the iPhone 17 Pro if you prefer the smaller, lighter phone and Apple’s ecosystem. Those are feature-fit recommendations based on published specifications—not proof that either phone takes better photos, lasts longer in independent testing, or offers better value.
The specifications below come from Apple’s Singapore support page and Samsung’s UK and US pages, so exact configurations, pricing, network support, accessories and warranty terms must be checked for your market before purchase.

The short answer
- Pick Galaxy S26 Ultra for a large-screen experience, S Pen note-taking and drawing, Samsung’s listed long-zoom options, or the Privacy Display feature.
- Pick iPhone 17 Pro if a more compact and lighter handset matters most and you already prefer Apple’s devices and services.
- Do not choose on megapixel totals or battery claims alone. The camera figures describe hardware, not image quality, and the two companies’ video-playback estimates use separate methods.
- Check the final price locally. A Samsung US purchase page showed a temporary 256 GB promotion, while the Apple source used for this comparison did not establish a matching US price.
Both are premium phones, but they solve different problems. The decision is mainly about size, input method, camera range and ecosystem fit rather than a proven across-the-board performance victory.

Which Galaxy S Ultra is the current model?
The title’s “Samsung Galaxy S Ultra” label is generation-ambiguous. Samsung’s cited 2026 lineup identifies the current model as Galaxy S26 Ultra, so that is the phone compared here. The relevant Samsung specification page is the UK business listing for the 256 GB model, while Samsung’s US product and purchase pages provide the product information and buying details.

Size and display: compact Pro or large Ultra?
The physical choice is unusually clear. The iPhone 17 Pro is the smaller phone in the cited specifications, while the Galaxy S26 Ultra gives you a much larger canvas. A compact handset is easier to carry, reach across with one hand and use in a pocket or small bag. A large handset is more comfortable for reading, split-screen work, editing photos, watching video and using a stylus.
Apple lists an OLED panel with a 2622 × 1206 resolution and adaptive refresh up to 120 Hz. Samsung lists a Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel at 3120 × 1440 with a maximum 120 Hz refresh rate. Refresh-rate labels do not by themselves predict brightness, calibration, outdoor legibility or battery behavior; those factors require measurements that are not supplied here.

Choose the Samsung when screen area is valuable enough to justify a slightly heavier device. Neither preference is objectively better: hand size, eyesight, commute, case choice and how often you read or edit on the phone matter more than a specification-sheet victory.
Camera systems: compare focal lengths, not megapixel headlines
What Apple documents
Apple lists three 48 MP rear cameras on the iPhone 17 Pro: main, ultra-wide and telephoto. Its specification also names 4× and optical-quality 8× telephoto options. That tells you how Apple describes the available framing range, but it does not tell you which focal length produces the cleanest result in dim light or how much detail survives at each setting.

What Samsung documents
Samsung lists a four-camera rear arrangement with 200 MP, 50 MP, 50 MP and 10 MP sensors. Its zoom labels include 3× and 5× optical zoom, optical-quality 2× and 10× options, and up to 100× digital zoom. The larger number at the end of that range describes a digital mode, not the same optical detail as a dedicated lens.
How to use those specifications
For travel, wildlife or distant subjects, the Samsung specification sheet offers more explicitly labeled long-range choices. For everyday photos, the useful question is which focal lengths you actually use: an ultra-wide view for architecture, a normal view for people and a short telephoto for portraits are different needs. A megapixel count is a sensor specification. It is not evidence that one phone has better color, autofocus, motion handling, night performance, skin tones or video.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsNo independent camera samples, controlled tests or comparative image measurements are established by the cited material. Treat the camera section as a choice of documented hardware and zoom flexibility, not a promise of photographic superiority.
Performance and software fit
Apple identifies the A19 Pro chip in the iPhone 17 Pro specifications. The cited Samsung pages establish the Galaxy S26 Ultra’s product features but do not provide a directly comparable benchmark result in this evidence set. Without matched tests, it would be misleading to declare one phone faster, cooler or better for sustained gaming.
Software preference is more practical than numerical. An iPhone 17 Pro makes the most sense when you already use Apple services, accessories or workflows and want continuity between them. A Galaxy S26 Ultra is the better fit when you prefer Samsung’s Android interface, multitasking approach, S Pen features or the ability to work in a more open Android environment. Ecosystem convenience is personal; it is not a measured performance advantage.

Battery claims and what they do—and do not—tell you
Apple rates the iPhone 17 Pro for up to 31 hours of video playback. Samsung lists 31 hours of video playback for the Galaxy S26 Ultra and gives a typical battery capacity of 5,000 mAh. The matching number should not be read as proof that the phones have the same real-world endurance.
Each company controls its own test conditions, software build, display settings, network state and definition of playback. A capacity figure also cannot predict screen-on time by itself: the larger Samsung display, modem use, camera recording, gaming, brightness and background activity all change consumption. Independent side-by-side testing would be needed to identify a battery-life winner, and none is established here.
Use the claims as a rough manufacturer estimate for a specific activity. If you routinely record long video, navigate with cellular data or play demanding games, look for tests conducted with the exact regional models and software versions you intend to buy.
S Pen, Privacy Display and productivity
The Galaxy S26 Ultra specification lists S Pen support. That makes it the clear documented choice for handwritten notes, precise marking, sketches and cursor-like interaction without carrying a separate accessory. If you regularly annotate documents or capture quick notes by hand, the integrated support can change how you use the phone every day.

Samsung also lists Privacy Display as a feature. The name indicates a privacy-focused viewing mode, but the cited material does not establish its viewing-angle behavior, brightness impact or availability in every market. Confirm the feature on the local model if it is central to your purchase.
The iPhone 17 Pro page does not document a built-in S Pen. You can still type, dictate, draw with compatible accessories or use ordinary touch input, but the specific integrated stylus workflow belongs to Samsung in this comparison.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Price, storage and what arrives in the box
On October 13, 2026, the Samsung US purchase page displayed $1,199.99 for a 256 GB Galaxy S26 Ultra and showed $1,399.99 as the prior price. That is a promotional snapshot, not a permanent MSRP or a guaranteed price for another country. Promotions, storage tiers, colors, carrier credits, trade-in values and financing terms can change without notice.
The Apple specification source used here did not provide a matching current US price for the iPhone 17 Pro. Therefore, this evidence cannot support a price winner. Compare the two phones at the same time, in the same currency and with equivalent storage before deciding that one is cheaper.
Samsung’s cited US purchase page offers financing and trade-in routes. It also states that no charger is included in the box. The sources do not establish an ideal charger model, so check the charging requirements and contents for your market rather than adding an accessory based on a generic recommendation.

Which phone fits your priorities?
Choose Galaxy S26 Ultra for a large-screen workhorse
Buy the Galaxy S26 Ultra when reading, drawing, document review, split-screen tasks or video consumption take up a large part of your day. Its larger listed display gives those activities more room, and S Pen support adds a dedicated input method. This is a feature-fit recommendation; it does not claim that the panel is brighter or that the software is faster without independent measurements.
Choose Galaxy S26 Ultra for zoom flexibility
The Samsung phone is the better match if you want several explicitly labeled optical and optical-quality zoom positions, including the documented 3×, 5×, 2× and 10× choices. The up-to-100× label is a digital mode, so distant-subject expectations should remain realistic. Select it for the range of framing options, not as proof that every zoomed image will outperform the iPhone.
Choose iPhone 17 Pro for a smaller, lighter phone
The iPhone 17 Pro is the sensible choice when you carry your phone all day, use it one-handed or dislike large handsets. Apple’s cited specification lists the lower weight, and the smaller display follows the same compact direction. If you often work on a tablet or laptop, the reduced phone size may be more valuable than extra screen area.
Choose based on ecosystem continuity
Existing Apple users may value familiar services, accessories and account integration; existing Samsung or Android users may value continuity with their current apps, settings and workflows. This is a personal switching cost, not a laboratory score. List the accessories and services you already own before changing platforms.
Choose neither on camera megapixels alone
If photography is your deciding factor, compare full-resolution samples from the exact models in the lighting you care about: people in motion, indoor scenes, night streets, ultra-wide architecture and distant subjects. The published specifications identify different hardware layouts but cannot answer those image-quality questions.
A practical decision process before checkout
- Confirm the generation. Make sure the listing says iPhone 17 Pro or Galaxy S26 Ultra, not an older iPhone Pro or Galaxy S Ultra model.
- Set your size limit. Decide whether you want the compact iPhone form factor or the larger Samsung canvas before comparing prices.
- Mark must-have features. Put S Pen support, Privacy Display, a particular zoom range, Apple services or Android compatibility on a yes/no checklist.
- Match storage. Compare equivalent capacity. A 256 GB Samsung promotion should not be compared with an iPhone configuration that has a different storage tier.
- Check the local listing. Verify price, tax, carrier lock, network bands, warranty, return period, included charger and regional feature availability.
- Calculate the net cost. Apply trade-in credit and financing terms only after reading eligibility rules, then add required accessories and service costs.
- Validate your deciding evidence. If battery life or camera quality is decisive, seek independent tests of the exact regional versions rather than treating manufacturer estimates as laboratory comparisons.
What the published specifications cannot establish
- They do not establish which phone produces better real-world photographs or video.
- They do not establish independent battery endurance, charging speed under matched conditions or long-term battery health.
- They do not establish gaming frame rates, thermal throttling or sustained performance.
- They do not establish software-support duration, repairability, reliability or owner satisfaction.
- They do not establish a universal value winner because the Apple and Samsung price evidence is from different pages, markets and conditions.
- They do not guarantee that every feature, accessory, radio band or warranty term is available in your country.
Bottom line
For most people, the decision is straightforward once priorities are explicit: Galaxy S26 Ultra for the larger screen, integrated S Pen and broader documented zoom choices; iPhone 17 Pro for a smaller, lighter phone and a preferred Apple ecosystem. Recheck local pricing and storage, then use independent camera and battery tests if those outcomes matter more than the specification differences.
