The iPhone 17 Pro Max and Xiaomi 17 Ultra are both 6.9-inch flagships, but they suit different buyers: Apple pairs iOS with three 48MP rear cameras and storage up to 2TB, while Xiaomi offers Android with a 200MP optical telephoto, a 6,000mAh typical battery and higher listed charging rates. There is no reliable single price gap to quote across regions: the announced prices use different currencies, markets and storage tiers. Compare local listings for the same date, country and capacity before deciding.

How the cameras differ
Xiaomi: a long optical telephoto range
Xiaomi specifies a 200MP optical telephoto covering 75–100mm, alongside a 50MP 1-inch main sensor and a 50MP ultra-wide. That makes its published hardware especially relevant if you often frame distant subjects or want that particular telephoto range. Xiaomi’s Leica camera modes and separately sold Xiaomi 17 Ultra Photography Kit Pro may also matter to your shooting workflow. Check the kit’s compatibility and local availability.

iPhone: three 48MP rear cameras and Apple’s zoom claim
Apple lists three 48MP Fusion rear cameras and describes the system as offering “the equivalent of eight lenses,” including what Apple calls the longest optical-quality zoom on iPhone at 8x. That is Apple’s characterization, not an independent comparison with Xiaomi’s optical telephoto. The iPhone also has an 18MP Center Stage front camera, while TechRadar lists a 50MP front camera for Xiaomi.

These specifications describe different camera designs, not a photo-quality ranking. Megapixels and sensor size alone do not show which phone will produce better images in your scenes. If camera results are decisive, look for comparisons using the same subjects, lighting and video settings rather than treating resolution or zoom labels as a score.
Displays: same size, different published figures
Both phones have a 6.9-inch display. TechRadar reports 2868 × 1320 resolution, 120Hz and 3000 nits for the iPhone 17 Pro Max. Xiaomi Malaysia lists 2608 × 1200 resolution, a 1–120Hz refresh rate and 3500-nit multi-scenario peak brightness for the Xiaomi 17 Ultra. The brightness descriptions are not equivalent measurement claims, so those numbers alone cannot settle which display is more visible in day-to-day conditions.
Software, performance and storage
Choose the platform you want to live with
Apple announced the iPhone 17 Pro Max with A19 Pro and iOS 26. TechRadar lists the Xiaomi 17 Ultra with Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and HyperOS 3 based on Android 16. Choose according to your preferred operating system, apps and device ecosystem; the available information does not provide a controlled performance benchmark between these phones.

Storage may settle the choice
Apple’s announced iPhone capacities run from 256GB to 2TB. TechRadar lists 512GB and 1TB for Xiaomi’s global-launch configurations. If you need 2TB, Apple is the only one of these two with that listed tier. Confirm the exact configuration sold in your country before comparing prices, since regional configurations can differ.
Battery and charging: Xiaomi publishes the clearer numbers
Xiaomi lists a 6000mAh typical battery, up to 90W PPS wired charging and 50W wireless charging for the global Xiaomi 17 Ultra. These are Xiaomi specifications, not a guarantee of a particular runtime or charging time; Xiaomi says actual performance varies. A wireless charger is sold separately, and power-adapter inclusion can vary by seller.
Apple describes battery-life improvements for the iPhone 17 Pro Max, but the cited announcement does not provide a directly comparable official battery-capacity or charging-rate figure. The listed Xiaomi capacity and wattage therefore cannot establish which phone lasts longer in real use. Compare independent battery tests under similar conditions if endurance is a priority.

Price difference: compare like with like
The prices below are announced or review-time figures, not live offers. Apple’s figures are U.S. launch prices announced in 2025; Xiaomi’s are global-launch prices reported by TechRadar in 2026. The storage tiers, countries, currencies and tax treatment do not match, so subtracting these values would not produce a meaningful price difference.

|---|---|---|
| iPhone 17 Pro Max, United States | 256GB | US$1,199 |
| iPhone 17 Pro Max, United States | 512GB | US$1,399 |

Apple’s prices come from its September 2025 announcement; Xiaomi’s regional prices were reported in TechRadar’s April 2026 review. To calculate a useful local difference, compare current listings in the same country, with the same tax treatment, matched storage and a recorded price-check date.
Availability, warranty and regional checks
TechRadar reported that Xiaomi’s global release began in the UK and Australia on February 28, 2026, and that there was no official U.S. availability at the time of its review. Availability can change; Xiaomi cautions that features vary by region and directs customers to local sellers. Before buying, verify the exact model variant, supported network bands, seller authorization, warranty coverage and access to local service. An imported phone may not have the same support or regional features as a locally sold model.
- Find the local listing. Check the manufacturer or an authorized seller for each phone in your country, and note the listing date.
- Match the configuration. Compare the same storage capacity where possible; if capacities differ, account for that instead of treating the prices as directly equivalent.
- Check the total cost. Confirm taxes, included accessories and whether a compatible charging adapter is included.
- Verify support. Check the regional model number, network compatibility, warranty and repair options before purchasing, especially for an import.
Which phone should you buy?
Choose iPhone 17 Pro Max if
- You prefer iOS or rely on Apple-device integration.
- You want Apple’s camera and video workflow, including the rear-camera system Apple describes with 8x optical-quality zoom.
- You need a listed 2TB storage configuration.
Choose Xiaomi 17 Ultra if
- You prefer Android and Xiaomi’s HyperOS experience.
- You want the specified 75–100mm optical telephoto and Xiaomi’s Leica camera modes.
- You value its listed high-wattage wired and wireless charging, and its capacity and local adapter terms suit you.
In either case, make the final call using your local price, camera needs, preferred platform, storage requirement and the availability of dependable warranty service. The published specifications do not establish a universal winner for camera quality, performance or battery life.
