The choice comes down first to shape: the iPhone 17 Pro Max is a conventional large-screen phone, while Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold7 opens into a larger inner display. The Fold7 is the option to investigate if that expanded screen is central to how you read, work or watch; the iPhone is the more natural candidate if you want a slab-style phone and already rely on Apple devices. Price comparisons need care because the available figures are from different dates and sources.
How the two phones differ in everyday use
iPhone 17 Pro Max: a conventional large-screen phone
The iPhone keeps the familiar single-screen phone format. Consider it if you want a large display without opening or closing a foldable, or if your day-to-day setup is already built around Apple devices. Check current iOS features and compatibility for the specific devices and services you use rather than assuming every ecosystem feature applies to your setup.

Galaxy Z Fold7: a phone that opens into a larger screen
The Fold7 has an outer cover display and a larger inner display when opened. Samsung describes its cover display as wider and markets the phone as thinner and lighter than previous Fold designs; that wording is Samsung’s product-page claim, not an independent assessment. The larger inner screen makes reading, video and multitasking relevant reasons to consider it, but the available evidence does not establish how particular apps behave on that screen. Check the apps you depend on before buying.
Specifications and what they do—and do not—tell you
| Item | iPhone 17 Pro Max | Galaxy Z Fold7 |
|---|---|---|
| Design | Conventional large-screen phone; see Apple’s official specifications. | Foldable phone with a cover display and a larger inner display; Samsung describes the cover display as wider. See Samsung’s product page. |
| Weight | See Apple’s official specifications for the exact figure. | 215 g, according to Samsung’s product materials. |
| Main camera | No directly comparable camera result is established here. | Samsung identifies a 200 MP main camera. Megapixel count alone does not establish photo quality. |
| Storage and memory | Compare the exact storage tier on Apple’s current product listing; a current price is not established by the cited launch-price report. | Samsung lists 256 GB and 512 GB configurations with 12 GB memory, and a 1 TB configuration with 16 GB memory. |
| Battery, performance and durability | No reliable standardized direct comparison is established here; do not treat a specification or manufacturer claim as a head-to-head test. | |
Official specifications are useful for confirming individual product details, but they do not establish which phone lasts longer on a charge, performs better in a particular workload, or takes better photos. No standardized head-to-head results for those categories are available in the cited material, so there is no evidence-based winner to name for them.

Price comparison: match storage and treat the figures as dated
The available US figures are not a synchronized snapshot. Tom’s Guide reported a $1,199 launch starting price for the iPhone 17 Pro Max with 256 GB. Samsung’s accessed US unlocked listing showed the following Fold7 prices; listing prices may change.
| Galaxy Z Fold7 storage | Samsung US unlocked listing price observed |
|---|---|
| 256 GB | $1,999.99 |
| 512 GB | $2,199.99 |
| 1 TB | $2,499.99 |
On the 256 GB comparison, subtracting the reported iPhone launch price from Samsung’s observed listing price gives an $800.99 difference. That is arithmetic across two different price sources and dates, not a current, like-for-like quote. The available information does not verify today’s Apple price, carrier offers, sales or taxes. Before deciding, compare the exact storage configuration from the same purchase channel and confirm both current prices.

Which phone is the better fit for you?
- Investigate the iPhone 17 Pro Max if you want a conventional large-screen phone or value continuity with Apple devices you already use. Confirm the current device compatibility and features that matter to you.
- Investigate the Galaxy Z Fold7 if opening the phone into a substantially larger work or media surface is your main priority, and its higher observed US listing price fits your budget.
- Pause before choosing either on camera, battery or durability alone. The cited material does not provide standardized direct tests that establish a winner in those categories. For a foldable, look into repair terms and the durability trade-offs that matter to your use before committing.
What comes in the Galaxy Z Fold7 box
Samsung says the box includes the phone, a data cable and an ejection pin; it does not include a charger. If you need a separate charger, check compatibility with the phone and confirm what is included with the specific listing you buy.
