The Apple iPhone 16 is smaller, runs iOS on Apple’s A18 chip, and has Apple-rated video playback of up to 22 hours. Samsung announced a U.S. unlocked starting price of $549.99 for the A57, but that launch figure alone cannot establish which phone costs less today: compare current prices in the same market at the same storage capacity.

Which screen and size suit you?
Choose the iPhone 16 for a more compact phone
At 147.6mm tall and 170g, the iPhone 16 is shorter and lighter than the A57. Its 6.1-inch OLED display has a listed resolution of 2556 × 1179 pixels and a density of 460 ppi. Apple also lists HDR, True Tone and outdoor peak brightness of up to 2,000 nits. This is the more natural choice if one-handed handling and a smaller display matter more than screen size.
Choose the Galaxy A57 for a larger, smoother panel
The A57 measures 161.5mm tall and weighs 179g. Its 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED+ display supports refresh rates up to 120Hz. The larger screen gives more room for video and reading, while the higher refresh-rate specification is relevant if you prefer smoother scrolling and motion. Consider the extra height when deciding whether it will feel comfortable in your hand or pocket.

How do their cameras differ?
The A57 has three rear cameras: a 50MP wide camera, a 12MP ultra-wide and a dedicated 5MP macro camera. The iPhone 16 has a 48MP Fusion main camera with sensor-shift optical image stabilization and a 12MP ultra-wide. Apple says the main camera supports 2x telephoto framing, so the iPhone offers that framing option without a separate telephoto lens in the listed camera system. Both phones have a 12MP front camera; Apple identifies its camera as TrueDepth.
The choice is about camera roles, not a megapixel contest. The A57 provides a dedicated macro camera for close-up subjects, while the iPhone’s listed rear setup includes 2x framing from the main camera. These specifications do not show which phone produces better images: no matched head-to-head photo test is established here. If camera quality is decisive, look for comparable sample photos taken in the conditions you care about, such as low light, portraits or moving subjects.

- Titanium frame combines strength and lightness, giving the iPhone 16 Pro a premium feel while reducing weight for prolonged daily use. The polished edges and textured back enhance grip and handling, making it easier to use during long calls, gaming sessions, or when capturing photos and videos on the move.
What does the price difference look like?
Samsung announced a U.S. unlocked starting price of $549.99 for the Galaxy A57, with availability beginning April 9, 2026. That is a launch announcement, not a guaranteed current checkout price. For launch-period context, TechRadar reported U.S. prices of $549 for the 8GB/128GB model and $609 for 8GB/256GB; its reported U.K. prices were £529 for 8GB/256GB and £699 for 12GB/512GB, while Australian prices were AU$749 for 8GB/128GB and AU$849 for 8GB/256GB. These are regional, capacity-specific launch-period figures, not live quotes. See TechRadar’s Galaxy A57 review.

Confirm the exact regional model and storage: Apple’s cited specifications page lists 128GB, while Samsung’s U.S. launch announcement lists 128GB and 256GB. A price difference based on different capacities, regions or dates is not a fair like-for-like comparison.

iOS, Android and everyday use
The iPhone 16 runs iOS and uses Apple’s A18 chip. Samsung announced the A57 with Android 16, One UI 8.5 and an Exynos 1680 processor. The useful distinction is platform fit: consider the apps and services you use, the devices you already own, and the effort or cost of moving your data and routines. The listed processor names alone do not establish which phone will feel faster for your particular workload.
Battery figures and water resistance need context
Battery claims use different measures
Apple rates the iPhone 16 for up to 22 hours of video playback and up to 18 hours of streamed video playback. Samsung lists 5,000mAh as the A57’s typical battery capacity and gives a rated minimum of 4,905mAh. Playback time and battery capacity are different measures, so they cannot show which phone lasts longer. Samsung also says actual battery life varies; a reliable endurance verdict would require equivalent testing under the same conditions.

IP68 does not mean identical protection
Both phones carry an IP68 rating, but their manufacturers state different test conditions. Apple specifies up to 6m for up to 30 minutes. Samsung specifies up to 1.5m of freshwater for up to 30 minutes and says the A57 is not recommended for beach or pool use. These ratings describe test conditions, not permanent protection; do not treat the depth figures as interchangeable or as a reason to deliberately submerge either phone.

Which one should you buy?
- Pick the Galaxy A57 if a 6.7-inch screen with refresh up to 120Hz, Android and One UI, or a dedicated macro camera is central to your choice.
- Pick the iPhone 16 if you prefer a smaller, lighter handset, want iOS, or already rely on Apple devices and services.
- Make price the deciding factor only after checking the current local price for both phones at the same capacity. Samsung’s launch price does not establish today’s gap against an iPhone 16 listing.
Neither set of specifications proves a universal winner. Match the screen size, platform, camera features and same-day price to what you actually need.
