The iPhone 15 Pro Max is a conventional, single-screen iPhone; Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra opens into a much larger 8-inch workspace. That difference in how you use the phones matters more than a simple specs tally. In a U.S. price snapshot, the refurbished 256GB iPhone was listed at $849 and Samsung’s new Fold8 Ultra started at $2,099.99 before trade-in—different conditions, so not a like-for-like price comparison.
Price difference: what the U.S. listings show
The available prices are a snapshot from manufacturer stores, not a matched comparison. Apple’s listing was for a refurbished, unlocked 256GB iPhone 15 Pro Max; Samsung’s starting price was for a new Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra before trade-in. The $1,250.99 difference is arithmetic between those listings, not a measure of the models’ equivalent new-device prices.

Displays and form factor: one screen or a foldable workspace?
iPhone 15 Pro Max: a single, familiar display
The iPhone has one 6.7-inch OLED display with ProMotion up to 120Hz. It stays in a conventional phone form: there is no larger screen to unfold, but everyday use does not require opening the device to access its main display.

Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra: cover screen plus inner display
Folded, the Samsung offers a 6.5-inch cover display; unfolded, it provides an 8-inch inner display. Both are specified for up to 120Hz. The cover screen serves for phone-style use, while the inner screen gives more room for apps and content. The trade-off is that the experience depends on whether you want to open a foldable to use that larger workspace.
Diagonal measurements alone do not settle which is more comfortable. Consider how often you use a phone one-handed, whether you want a larger surface for reading or multitasking, and whether switching between folded and unfolded use suits you.

Cameras: different hardware, no proven photo-quality winner
Apple specifies a 48MP main camera and a 5x telephoto camera on the iPhone 15 Pro Max. Samsung lists a 200MP wide camera, a 50MP ultra-wide camera, and a 10MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom for the Fold8 Ultra.
Those figures describe different camera configurations; megapixels and zoom labels alone do not establish which phone takes better photos. No independent camera comparison or hands-on results are available here, so a real-world image-quality winner cannot be named on this evidence.

Software, performance, and resistance ratings
iOS and Android ecosystems
The iPhone runs Apple’s iOS ecosystem and uses the A17 Pro chip. Samsung’s foldable belongs to the Galaxy Android ecosystem and uses Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy. The choice therefore includes the apps, services, accessories, and devices you already use—not just processor names. No cross-platform benchmark establishes a performance winner.

IP ratings and practical protection
Apple documents IP68 under IEC 60529 for the iPhone 15 Pro Max, while Samsung lists IP48 for the Fold8 Ultra. These are different published ratings, not guarantees that either device is damage-proof. Check each manufacturer’s limitations and warranty terms before relying on a rating in a particular situation.

Which phone makes more sense for you?
- Consider the iPhone 15 Pro Max if you prefer a conventional single-screen phone, use Apple’s ecosystem, or find an offer whose condition, storage, and warranty suit your budget.
- Consider the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra if a foldable design and larger unfolded display are priorities, and you are comfortable evaluating a new device at a substantially higher listed starting price in the cited U.S. snapshot.
- Compare offers carefully if price is decisive: match storage and condition, confirm seller and carrier-lock status, and check warranty, stock, and trade-in terms in your region.
The iPhone is the older model, introduced in 2023. Samsung announced the Fold8 Ultra in August 2026, with sales beginning August 7 in select markets. Age and purchase condition are relevant alongside the specifications, especially when comparing a refurbished listing with a new product.
