Neither stock is an established better buy for every investor in 2026. IonQ delivered much faster reported Q2 revenue growth and has a larger reported cash-and-investments balance, while SoundHound AI reported solid growth, cash with no debt, and a broader enterprise voice-AI business. Both are loss-making, operate in different markets, and lack a fully comparable valuation in the available figures. The choice depends on your view of their execution risks and the price you would be willing to pay.
IonQ and SoundHound are different kinds of technology investments
IonQ develops quantum-computing systems and related platform capabilities. Its investment case depends on translating technical progress and deployments into durable commercial revenue. SoundHound AI sells enterprise voice and agentic AI software for customer interactions across settings such as automotive, restaurants, phones, and other devices.

They are not direct operating peers. IonQ presents a bet on a developing computing platform and its commercialization; SoundHound presents a bet on adoption of enterprise AI products, customer expansion, and its ability to integrate acquisitions. Comparing their growth rates is useful, but it does not make their businesses, risks, or valuations interchangeable.

The growth figures favor IonQ on reported pace, but they are not a standalone measure of investment quality. IonQ attributed its Q2 growth to deployments across its platform and increases in international, commercial, and multi-product revenue; those explanations are management’s statements. SoundHound’s reported growth and outlook also need to be considered alongside its GAAP loss and the preliminary status of the Q2 financial data.

The cash figures are from different dates and use different descriptions, so they should not be read as a same-day balance-sheet contest. A large balance provides resources, but it does not by itself show how quickly a company uses cash or when it will become profitable.
Profitability and financing risk remain central
IonQ: substantial reported resources, but a long commercialization path
IonQ’s 2025 Form 10-K reported a $510.4 million net loss and said the company expects continuing losses. The filing warns that its prospects ultimately depend on research and development breakthroughs in coming years and that milestones may take longer than expected or may not be achieved. Investors therefore need to assess technical progress and recognized commercial revenue together, rather than treating the cash balance as evidence that the business is already on a path to self-funding.

SoundHound: no debt reported, with losses and capital needs to monitor
SoundHound’s 2025 Form 10-K describes a history of net losses and negative operating cash flows, and identifies possible additional capital needs, dependence on large customers, and competition in a rapidly changing market as risks. The company’s Q2 release separately reported a GAAP net loss and a smaller adjusted EBITDA loss; the adjusted figure is a non-GAAP measure and should not replace the GAAP result when evaluating profitability.

That difference matters to investors considering voting influence, even though it does not change the operating results in the comparison above.

New SoundHound initiatives add opportunity and execution demands
SoundHound announced completion of its LivePerson acquisition on September 4, 2026. On September 24, it announced OASYS Edge, describing deployments across cloud, edge, or hybrid environments. These developments may broaden product reach, but the announcements alone do not establish how much revenue or profit they will contribute.
For investors, the relevant follow-through is whether SoundHound can integrate LivePerson, retain and expand customers, and commercialize its product offerings without worsening losses or cash use. Later company filings will be more informative about acquisition impacts and whether the 2026 outlook changes.

Valuation does not settle the comparison
A StockAnalysis.com market-data snapshot listed SoundHound’s October 2, 2026 closing price at $5.84, market capitalization at $2.59 billion, and price-to-sales ratio at 12.76. These are dated third-party figures, not company-filed operating results. The available figures do not establish a comparable October 2026 IonQ share price or valuation multiple, so they cannot show which stock is cheaper.

A price-to-sales multiple based on a different date or revenue basis is not an apples-to-apples comparison. Nor does faster revenue growth prove that a stock is attractively priced.
Which stock may fit your investment thesis?
| If your thesis prioritizes… | Questions to test |
|---|---|
| IonQ’s quantum-computing opportunity | Are technical milestones progressing, and are deployments turning into repeatable, recognized commercial revenue? How much time and investment might commercialization require? |
| SoundHound’s enterprise AI opportunity | Can the company grow customers and product adoption while managing losses? Does LivePerson integration create durable commercial value, and can the company compete in a fast-changing market? |
| Risk-adjusted value | What are each company’s current, comparable valuation and cash-flow trends? Is the potential return compelling relative to the possibility of continued losses, dilution, or delayed execution? |
On the evidence presented here, IonQ has the stronger reported Q2 growth rate; SoundHound has reported a June cash balance with no debt and has recent product and acquisition developments to execute. Neither fact decides the stock question on its own. A defensible choice requires an investor to set a valuation threshold, decide which company’s risks they understand and accept, and revisit the thesis as filings update guidance, cash use, and execution.
