IonQ’s and Rigetti’s reported results show commercial progress, but they do not establish that either stock’s rally is justified. IonQ reported far more revenue in Q2 2026, while both companies continued to report substantial losses. The evidence here does not include matched-date share returns or valuation data, so it cannot settle whether prices reflect fundamentals or momentum.
What the latest reported results show
IonQ reported $80.1 million in revenue for Q2 2026, up 287% year over year. Rigetti reported $5.138 million for the same quarter, up 185% from $1.801 million. On those reported figures, IonQ’s quarterly revenue was about 15.6 times Rigetti’s. The growth rates are not directly comparable on their own: Rigetti’s percentage rise starts from a much smaller revenue base.

| Company and period | Revenue | Year-over-year change | What the figure represents |
|---|---|---|---|
| IonQ, Q2 2026 | $80.1 million | 287% growth | Quarterly record, as reported by IonQ |
| Rigetti, Q2 2026 | $5.138 million | 185% growth | Quarterly revenue; much of the increase came from sales of 9-qubit Novera systems and related products |
| IonQ, full year 2025 | $130.0 million | 202% growth | Annual revenue |
The figures are company-reported. They show sharply different revenue scale, but revenue alone does not show how much cash the businesses generate, how durable demand is, or whether the stocks are priced attractively.

Where the revenue comes from
IonQ: growth described across its platform
IonQ’s COO and CFO Inder Singh attributed the Q2 increase to “global deployments of our IonQ Tempo quantum computers, strong cloud utilization, and broad-based commercial momentum across our quantum platform.” That is management’s explanation of the quarter, not independent confirmation of recurring revenue or long-term economics. The reported growth is concrete evidence of increased recognized revenue; the characterization of its drivers should remain attributed to the company.
#1 Best Overall
Rigetti: system sales led the quarter
Rigetti’s Q2 2026 revenue consisted of $4.098 million from quantum-computer and component sales, $952,000 from collaborative research and professional services, and $88,000 from access to systems. Its filing says the increase was mainly due to higher sales of 9-qubit Novera systems and related products. The mix makes the quarter’s growth more dependent on system and component transactions than the headline percentage alone suggests.
Rigetti reported $2.7 million in aggregate remaining performance obligations at June 30, 2026. This is contracted transaction price not yet recognized as revenue; it is not a complete measure of customer interest, future sales, or the company’s pipeline.
Rank #2
Losses and liquidity: progress is not profitability
IonQ reported a $510.4 million net loss attributable to the company for full-year 2025, compared with $331.6 million in 2024 and $157.8 million in 2023. Its reported revenue growth and cash reserves have not translated into annual GAAP profitability.
Rigetti reported a $28.1 million operating loss and a $52.6 million GAAP net loss for Q2 2026. These are quarterly figures, whereas IonQ’s cited net loss is for a full year; they should not be treated as a period-matched head-to-head comparison.
| Company | Reported loss | Liquidity snapshot |
|---|---|---|
| IonQ | $510.4 million net loss attributable to IonQ for full-year 2025 | $3.3 billion in cash, cash equivalents and investments at December 31, 2025 |
| Rigetti | $28.1 million operating loss and $52.6 million GAAP net loss for Q2 2026 | $541.3 million in cash, cash equivalents and available-for-sale investments at June 30, 2026; the company reported no debt at quarter end |
The balances are snapshots from different dates and use different descriptions of the assets included. They do not establish profitability or prove that either company can fund its plans indefinitely. Rigetti’s Q2 2026 filing says it expects to meet cash requirements primarily through existing cash and investments, potential securities financings, or other capital sources until it can generate significant revenue from quantum processing units, systems, development contracts, services, and its quantum-computing-as-a-service offering. The reference to potential financing makes dilution and access to capital relevant risks, not settled outcomes.
What fundamentals can—and cannot—say about the rally
The operating results support a limited conclusion: both companies reported substantial year-over-year revenue growth in Q2 2026, with IonQ at a much higher revenue scale. They also show that revenue growth coexists with significant losses. Those facts are relevant to an investment case, but they do not tell whether the stocks rose, by how much, or whether their current prices already reflect optimistic expectations.

A defensible rally-versus-fundamentals judgment needs price performance and valuation measured on the same date. At minimum, compare each company’s share return over clearly stated periods, market capitalization or enterprise value, and a consistently defined trailing or forward revenue multiple. Share count matters too, especially where equity issuance, warrants, acquisitions, or stock-based compensation affect dilution. No matched-date share performance, market capitalization, or valuation multiples are established here, so there is no basis for declaring either rally fundamentally justified or merely momentum-driven.

- Test scale as well as growth: read revenue amounts beside percentage changes, since fast growth from a small base can still leave a business much smaller.
- Follow the revenue mix: distinguish delivered systems and components from access, cloud usage, services, development contracts, and any acquired-business contribution. A strong quarter does not by itself prove that revenue recurs.
- Track losses and cash use across matching periods: compare GAAP operating and net losses, cash flow, and period-end liquidity using consistent definitions. Cash can reflect financing as well as business operations.
- Separate delivery from announcements: assess completed customer deliveries and recognized revenue separately from roadmaps, memoranda, or technical milestones. Technology progress is not the same as commercial execution.
- Put the share price beside the business: use prices, share counts, returns, and valuation ratios with a common as-of date and stated measurement periods before drawing a conclusion about momentum.
Company guidance is forward-looking and can change; IonQ’s Q2 release describes raised guidance, but a specific full-year range is not included here. Neither a reported revenue increase nor a technology announcement establishes long-term technical or economic feasibility. The companies’ filings also describe execution risks, and their commercialization claims should be treated as management statements unless supported independently.
