The Ionmax ION681 is a compact dehumidifier that uses Peltier (thermoelectric) technology. Its headline figure, 600 ml of water removed per day, is measured under one specific condition: 30°C and 80% relative humidity. That is a hot, very humid test point, so the number is useful for comparing models but does not predict what the unit will do in a typical bedroom. Owner feedback is sparse and mixed. The points below separate the manufacturer’s specifications from individual experiences, and they give you a way to check performance in your own room.

The listed input of 220–240 V at 50 Hz is the standard mains supply in much of Europe, the UK, and Australia. If you live where mains is 110–120 V, check whether the seller offers a unit matched to your supply before ordering.

Controls and features
- Manual and automatic modes. In automatic mode the built-in humidistat decides when the unit runs.
- Timer. The guide lists 6-, 8-, and 12-hour settings.
- Full-tank indicator and automatic shutoff. The guide names both features but does not spell out what triggers the shutoff, so check the manual’s operating section before assuming it stops at a set point.
- Filter. A basic filter catches larger particles such as hair and dust. The guide does not describe it as an air purifier or a fine-particle filter, so do not treat it as one.
How to read the 600 ml/day rating
Dehumidifiers generally remove less water as air gets cooler and drier, so a bedroom at a lower temperature and humidity will usually see a lower rate than the rated figure. The Ionmax guide does not publish a rate for those conditions, so the rated figure cannot be translated directly into a bedroom result.

Comparisons are also easy to get wrong. Sleep Solutions lists the ION610 at 6 L/day, but under 20°C and 60% RH, which is a different model tested under different conditions. A bigger number on another listing is not evidence the ION681 is weaker unless the test conditions match.

Five uncontrolled reviews cannot show how the unit performs on average. They are worth investigating, which is what the checks below are for.

Checking the ION681 in your own room
You need a digital hygrometer, which is the only way to confirm what the room is doing rather than what the unit reports. Any model with a clear humidity reading will do; this article does not recommend a specific brand.

- Place the hygrometer at about breathing height, away from the unit’s air outlet and out of direct sunlight.
- Close the doors and log humidity and temperature for 24 hours with the dehumidifier off. This is your baseline.
- Run the unit in manual mode with the same doors closed for at least 24 hours. Note the change in humidity and how full the tank gets, and empty the tank when prompted.
- Switch to automatic mode, set the humidistat to a target that is close to your hygrometer reading, and log when the unit starts and stops.
- Compare the stop point against your hygrometer. A consistent gap of several points suggests the built-in sensor reads differently from your room, and the log is the evidence to take to the seller or manufacturer.
Troubleshooting automatic mode
- Judge auto mode over a full day or more. Showers, cooking, and opening windows change humidity quickly, so a single hour is not a fair test.
- Confirm the target you set. The reported behaviour only means something if the unit’s target matches the value you think you set.
- Check maintenance before blaming the sensor. Clean the filter and confirm the tank is seated correctly, following the maintenance section of the manual.
- Keep timestamped readings. The manual includes a troubleshooting section, and a log of readings and run times gives support something concrete to act on.
How to compare the ION681 with other units
Use the same criteria for every model, and do not compare headline numbers that were measured under different conditions:
- Rated room size, and whether the listing gives a room size at all.
- Extraction rate, together with its temperature and humidity test conditions.
- Tank capacity, which determines how often you empty it in a given run.
- Power consumption and whether the unit suits your mains supply.
- Weight and handle design if the unit must move between rooms.
- Controls: whether automatic mode and a timer are both available.
- Warranty length and how support is handled in your country.
Buying checks
- Search for the exact name “Ionmax ION681” or “ION681 compact dehumidifier” so you do not end up with a similarly named model.
- Confirm the seller’s listed voltage matches your mains supply.
- Check the weight on the seller’s page against the figure in the guide and resolve the 3.2 kg versus 2.6 kg difference.
- Confirm current price, stock, and warranty terms with the seller at the time of purchase.
- Ionmax’s site lists dehumidifiers, replacement filters, and accessories. The material available for this review did not confirm a replacement part specifically for the ION681, so ask Ionmax before buying one.
Verdict
The ION681 is a plausible option for a small room, but its headline rate is measured under hot, very humid conditions, and owner evidence is too thin to call its performance or its automatic mode reliable or unreliable. If you buy one, log your own readings in the first week and keep the seller’s return or warranty route open until you have them.
