That is a one-month move, not a single-day crash. The idea that the shares are now undervalued comes from a Seeking Alpha article summarized by Pluang on October 5. It is an investor’s interpretation, and the share-price drop alone doesn’t prove it. The company facts below are dated June 30 and the Q2 2026 earnings call, so they are not October figures.
What the 21% figure actually measures
MarketBeat’s data puts IVR at $5.70 at the October 5, 2026 close, down 21.01% over one month. Working backward, that implies a price near $7.22 a month earlier (our arithmetic, not a reported figure). It is third-party market data, not company disclosure. Quote it with its period and date.

What IVR is, and why it swings
According to its Q2 2026 Form 10-Q filed with the SEC, Invesco Mortgage Capital invests in, finances and manages mortgage-backed securities and other mortgage-related assets. The portfolio includes agency residential and commercial mortgage-backed securities (RMBS and CMBS), and the filing also describes non-agency CMBS and RMBS held during the periods presented. The company is externally managed by Invesco Advisers and has elected REIT tax treatment.

The filing lists financial conditions, inflation, employment, monetary policy, interest rates and interest-rate volatility as the macroeconomic factors with the most direct impact on Q2 2026 performance and financial condition. That tells you what the stock is sensitive to. It does not tell you which factor drove the October decline.

|---|---|---|
| Economic return, Q2 | 3.8% | CEO Kevin Collins, Q2 2026 call |
| Monthly dividend | $0.12 per share | Collins, Q2 2026 call |
| Book value per share, Q2 change | Down 0.6% | Collins, Q2 2026 call |
| Estimated quarter-to-date book value | Down roughly 2.5%, excluding the accrued dividend, on mortgage underperformance | Collins, Q2 2026 call (management estimate, dated to the call) |
| Borrowing costs hedged | 97%, using interest-rate swaps and U.S. Treasury futures | Collins, Q2 2026 call |
| Capital raised in Q2 | About $118 million | Collins, Q2 2026 call |
| Common shares outstanding | 107,640,417 (as of July 31, 2026) | Form 10-Q |
Collins also described the portfolio at quarter-end: “At quarter end, our economic debt-to-equity ratio remained unchanged and our $8.2 billion investment portfolio consisted of $6 billion of Agency RMBS, $1.2 billion of Agency TBA, and $0.9 billion of Agency CMBS.” The portfolio is therefore mostly agency-backed. That means credit risk is limited, but rate, spread and funding risk remain.

Why did the shares fall?
No source identifies a single catalyst. Here is what is and isn’t established:
- Rates and mortgage spreads: Management said mortgage underperformance weighed on book value in the quarter-to-date estimate. That’s a plausible link to price weakness, but the filing documents sensitivities only. It doesn’t prove cause.
- Share count and multiples: Trefis’s October 1 analysis cites valuation-multiple compression and share-count changes in its model of IVR’s decline. That is an attributed analytical view. The company did raise about $118 million in Q2, but issuance alone doesn’t show that dilution caused the drop.
- Revenue versus estimates: MarketBeat lists Q2 actual revenue of $30.10 million against $46.48 million expected. This is estimate-comparison context only. For a mortgage REIT, revenue consensus is a rough yardstick, and nothing shows it drove the October move.
Is it “undervalued”? How to test the claim
The undervaluation thesis, as relayed by Pluang from Seeking Alpha, rests on a discount to book value, an agency-heavy portfolio and the 97% hedge ratio. The Seeking Alpha article itself was not reviewed, and no October book-value figure from the company was available. The claimed discount therefore can’t be confirmed here. Checking it yourself:

- Use a current book value. Compare the $5.70 price with the latest book value per share, then roll it forward for management’s estimated decline since June 30. Don’t set today’s price against a stale June number as if both were current.
- Remember that a discount is not a margin of safety. Mortgage REITs often trade below book value when investors expect further book-value erosion. The discount can widen if mortgages keep underperforming.
- Treat the dividend carefully. A $0.12 monthly dividend is $1.44 a year, about 25% of a $5.70 share price (our arithmetic). Such a yield can signal that investors doubt it will last. Dividends are set by the board and are not guaranteed. Part of Q2’s 3.8% economic return came from paying dividends while book value fell.
- Read the hedge as a limit on one risk. Hedging 97% of borrowing costs addresses financing-rate exposure. It doesn’t remove mortgage-spread risk, prepayment risk, margin and funding-liquidity risk, or hedge-related costs. Calling the company “protected” overstates what the filing and call establish.
- Watch per-share effects. With about 107.6 million shares as of July 31, any further issuance below book value would reduce book value per share. Issuance above book value would add to it.
