The main congress: themes and participation
The Marrakech congress ran from May 15–19. ISE describes sessions exploring how biodiversity and cultural landscapes are conceptualized and contested by de-colonial, Indigenous and local practitioners and scholars. Parallel sessions addressed academia, advocacy, activism and indigeneity, and included a Council of Elders session.
According to ISE’s report, the congress brought together more than 500 participants from 72 countries, with more than 300 oral presentations and over 100 poster presentations. The report does not explain how attendance or presentation totals were counted, so these figures are best understood as ISE’s reported totals rather than independently verified counts.

Student and community-facing activities
The report notes formal and informal conversations between emerging ethnobiologists and students and journal editors about publications and related procedures. These conversations sat alongside the scholarly program, training and field activities described in the report.

Organizers and society business
ISE identifies Cadi Ayyad University, the Global Diversity Foundation, the Centre for Development and Environment, Institut de Recherche pour le Développement, and the Moroccan Biodiversity and Livelihoods Association among the organizers, alongside ISE and other local organizations.
Rank #3
The report also records meetings of the ISE Board and General Assembly. It says those meetings addressed the code of ethics, membership fee and board appointments, but does not reproduce the specific decisions or resolutions. It therefore supports a high-level account of the subjects discussed, not claims about the exact changes adopted.

In its 2024 report, ISE records incoming president Shujaul Mulk Khan announcing that the 19th ISE Congress would be held in Cairns, Australia, in the last week of July 2026. That is a historical announcement reported in 2024; the report itself does not establish the later congress’s current or final status.
