Intel Panther Lake is the codename for Core Ultra Series 3, a laptop platform announced on January 5, 2026. It brings new CPU, integrated Arc graphics and AI hardware, but it is not one fixed performance tier: the processor, cooling, memory, battery and laptop design determine what an individual machine can do. For Indian buyers, the useful question is whether a specific Series 3 configuration suits the work or games they care about at its current local price.
What Panther Lake changes—and what the name means
Panther Lake is Intel’s codename; retail laptops use the Core Ultra Series 3 branding. Intel says Series 3 is its first compute platform built on Intel 18A. The lineup spans consumer and commercial PCs, with designs aimed at productivity, content creation and gaming. Intel’s launch emphasis is on CPU performance, integrated Arc graphics, power efficiency and AI acceleration. Intel’s January 5, 2026 announcement describes the platform and its initial launch plans.

The headline specifications apply to the highest-end models, not every Series 3 laptop. Intel says top Core Ultra X9 and X7 processors offer up to 16 CPU cores, 12 Xe graphics cores and 50 NPU TOPS. Lower-tier Series 3 processors have different capabilities, so check the exact processor listed on the laptop rather than buying on the Panther Lake label alone.

Intel has published large gains, but each figure belongs to a particular comparison and test. These are Intel’s own results, not independent tests or guarantees for every retail laptop.

| Intel claim | What was compared or measured | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 60% better multithread performance | Core Ultra X9 388H versus Core Ultra 9 288V in Cinebench 2024 Multi Core at 25W. | A result from Intel’s specified processor and power test; Intel says results may vary. It does not predict performance in every application or laptop. Intel’s launch announcement |
| Up to 77% faster gaming performance | Geometric mean of average performance across 45 games at 1080p High, using 2x upscaling where supported; Panther Lake reference platform versus Lunar Lake reference platform. | This aggregate reference-platform comparison is not a promise of a 77% gain in a particular game or a retail system. | Up to 27.1 hours of Netflix streaming | Intel measured 1080p Netflix streaming in Edge on a Lenovo IdeaPad reference design with an X9 388H. | Intel cautions that results vary significantly with use, battery capacity and other factors. Treat this as a specific streaming test, not an expected workday runtime. Intel’s launch announcement |
| Over 30% faster single- and multithread performance; up to 30% higher productivity; up to 80% better graphics; up to 4x AI performance | Intel’s commercial announcement compares Series 3 with four-year-old systems on specified Intel test platforms. | These are vendor comparisons against older systems, not a direct forecast against every laptop a buyer might own. Independent evidence supports a graphics improvement, with important limits. In its February 2, 2026 review, Ars Technica reported that Panther Lake integrated graphics were nearly twice as fast as Lunar Lake’s Arc 140V in the review’s synthetic graphics tests and selected games, and more than twice as fast as the integrated graphics in the cited Core Ultra Series 1 Meteor Lake chips. Those results describe the machines and workloads tested; they do not establish parity with discrete gaming GPUs or the same gains in every game.
What Indian professionals should look for
For office workloads, multitasking and frequent travel, evaluate the complete laptop rather than inferring quality from the processor family. Sustained performance depends on cooling and the manufacturer’s power settings, while battery life depends on capacity, display and workload. Compare independent tests that resemble your own day—video calls, browser-heavy work or local development—when available.

- Check the precise Core Ultra Series 3 processor and its graphics tier.
- Compare memory and storage capacity against your workload and whether either can be upgraded.
- Assess display, weight, ports, warranty and service availability alongside processor performance.
- For a company fleet, verify whether the exact model includes the vPro features and enterprise support your organisation requires. Intel’s commercial announcement discusses Series 3 vPro systems, but not every Series 3 laptop is a vPro model. Intel commercial PC announcement
What creators should compare
Integrated graphics gains can make a thin laptop more capable for GPU-assisted tasks, but a platform-wide claim cannot tell you how quickly your editing or design software will run. App support, memory, cooling and the laptop’s power limits all matter. Look for tests of the specific applications you use—such as export, rendering or effects workloads—at comparable settings, and check whether your workflow benefits from the NPU or GPU rather than assuming that every AI-enabled feature runs faster on the same hardware.

What gamers should expect
Panther Lake’s integrated graphics may improve gaming performance over earlier Intel integrated graphics, as Intel’s reference-platform comparison and Ars Technica’s review indicate. Integrated graphics still share system resources, and the result varies with the processor tier, memory configuration, cooling, game and resolution. A 1080p High aggregate result across 45 games is not a substitute for a benchmark in the title you play.

Availability and pricing in India
Intel announced consumer laptop preorders beginning January 6, 2026, with global system availability beginning January 27; actual local availability depended on the design and market. Intel separately announced commercial PCs with Series 3 and vPro availability starting March 31, 2026. Those announcements do not establish that every globally announced model is sold in India.
One concrete India listing is ASUS’s ExpertBook Ultra with a Core Ultra Series 3 X7 variant, shown by ASUS India with a starting price of Rs 2,39,990. That is the manufacturer’s listed starting price, not a guaranteed transaction price or proof that every configuration is in stock. Check the exact SKU, seller, current price and delivery availability before deciding. A practical way to choose a Series 3 laptop
- Identify the actual model and processor. Confirm the full laptop SKU and Core Ultra Series 3 chip; do not rely on “Panther Lake” alone.
- Match evidence to your workload. Use application-specific creator tests, game-specific results at your target resolution, or battery tests for the kind of work you do.
- Check the laptop’s implementation. Compare cooling, memory, battery capacity, display, weight and ports. A processor’s maximum capability does not guarantee the same sustained performance in every chassis.
- Verify the India offer. Confirm current local stock, seller, warranty and price for that exact configuration. Announced global availability is not proof of Indian retail availability.
