Intel Nova Lake BFC Rumors: What 144MB of bLLC Could Mean

Intel has not confirmed the rumored Core Ultra BFC models or their specifications. Current leak reports describe a large cache feature called bLLC and attribute up to 144 MB to one prospective Nova Lake desktop CPU—but that figure should not be described simply as 144 MB of native L3. No cited report provides verified BFC gaming benchmarks, so the cache figure alone cannot tell us how much faster these chips might be.

What does Core Ultra BFC mean?

BFC is a suffix appearing in a leaked list of prospective Nova Lake desktop processor names, not a confirmed Intel product label. Tom’s Hardware’s October 2, 2026 report explicitly says the names and specifications are rumored and unconfirmed by Intel. The report does not establish what Intel intends the initials to mean. Online expansions, including a profane one, should not be treated as official branding.

The separate term bLLC is used in leak coverage for “Big Last-Level Cache,” the reported large-cache feature. Keep the two terms distinct: BFC is the rumored SKU suffix; bLLC is the cache pool described in reports.

What is the rumored Nova Lake desktop lineup?

The following models and configurations come from Tom’s Hardware’s October 2, 2026 leak report. They are not confirmed Intel specifications, and the report does not establish final branding or retail availability.

#1 Best Overall
Intel Core Ultra 9 Processor 285K, 24 cores (8 P-cores + 16 E-cores) up to 5.7 GHz
  • Get ultra-efficient with Intel Core Ultra desktop processors that improve both performance and efficiency so your PC can run cooler, quieter, and quicker.

Three rows carry the BFC suffix in that report. The lineup table does not provide cache sizes for each model; a separate ComputerBase leak report lists cache figures for a selection of purported models. Those reports should not be silently combined into an Intel specification sheet.

Does 144 MB mean 144 MB of L3 cache?

Not according to the way the leak reports distinguish the cache. ComputerBase’s October 2, 2026 rumor table lists 144 MB of bLLC plus 36 MB of native L3 for the purported Core Ultra 9 4970K BFC. In other words, the reported 144 MB is a bLLC figure, not a statement that the chip has 144 MB of native L3.

Intel® Core™ i9-14900K Desktop Processor
  • Game without compromise. Play harder and work smarter with Intel Core 14th Gen processors
  • 24 cores (8 P-cores plus 16 E-cores) and 32 threads. Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 770 included
  • Leading max clock speed of up to 6.0 GHz gives you smoother game play, higher frame rates, and rapid responsiveness
  • Compatible with Intel 600-series (with potential BIOS update) or 700-series chipset-based motherboards
  • DDR4 and DDR5 platform support cuts your load times and gives you the space to run the most demanding games

ComputerBase’s table also gives 132 MB bLLC and 36 MB native L3 for a purported Core Ultra 7 4870K BFC, and 108 MB bLLC and 27 MB native L3 for a purported Core Ultra 9 4900 BFC. These are leak claims, not Intel-confirmed capacities. Tom’s Hardware’s earlier leak coverage likewise separated reported bLLC capacity from native L3 and described its information as preliminary and unofficial.

Could a larger cache make Nova Lake faster for gaming?

It could matter in games that benefit from keeping frequently needed data close to CPU cores. The rumored feature has been framed as a potential gaming-focused move against AMD’s X3D processors, but that is competitive context—not proof that Nova Lake will beat a specific rival or deliver a particular frame-rate gain.

Rank #3
Intel® Core™ i7-12700KF Desktop Processor 12 (8P+4E) Cores up to 5.0 GHz Unlocked LGA1700 600 Series Chipset 125W
  • Intel Core i7 3.60 GHz processor offers more cache space and the hyper-threading architecture delivers high performance for demanding applications with better onboard graphics and faster turbo boost
  • The Socket LGA-1700 socket allows processor to be placed on the PCB without soldering
  • 11 MB L2 and 25 MB L3 cache offers supreme performance for computation intensive apps
  • Intel 7 Architecture enables improved performance per watt and micro architecture makes it power-efficient

Cache capacity by itself does not establish gaming performance. Results depend on the game, resolution, graphics card, memory behavior, and processor configuration. The cited reports provide no independently measured Nova Lake BFC results, quantified uplift, or latency reduction.

A meaningful comparison will need retail hardware and tests that report:

What do USB and PCI-SIG listings confirm?

Tom’s Hardware has reported Nova Lake-associated entries in USB-IF and PCI-SIG compliance information. Its coverage links a mobile Nova Lake-H entry with USB4 80 Gbps compliance and a desktop chipset entry with USB 3.2 Gen 2 compliance. It also describes PCI-SIG listings associated with a 900-series chipset and an unidentified processor entry; the report cautions that the unidentified processor cannot be identified with certainty as a desktop Nova Lake CPU.

These entries are evidence of platform preparation and interoperability activity. They do not verify BFC branding, the leaked cache sizes, final processor configurations, or gaming performance.

What should buyers take from the rumors?

For now, treat BFC and the reported bLLC capacities as unconfirmed. The available reports make the 144 MB claim more specific than the phrase “144 MB of L3” suggests, but they do not establish real-world performance or confirm a product for sale. Avoid choosing a processor or platform on the strength of the leak; wait for Intel’s specifications and independent testing of retail chips.
