Start with the business that took your order. An Intel Authorized Distributor is an upstream channel partner that supplies Intel products to resellers and other business customers. A reseller is the seller or system builder that normally quotes, invoices, ships, and supports your transaction. Intel says it does not sell directly to end users, so most order problems and ordinary refunds belong with the seller named on your order.
Warranty service is a separate question. For a standalone Intel component, Intel’s general guidance says to contact the place of purchase within 30 days, subject to product, country, and purchase-type exceptions; after 30 days, contact Intel Customer Support for a warranty claim. If the Intel part is inside a complete computer, the system manufacturer or system seller handles the system warranty. The distinctions below show exactly where to begin for each situation.

Distributor and reseller: the roles are different
The words are often used interchangeably in listings, but they describe different positions in Intel’s channel.
Intel Authorized Distributor
An Intel Authorized Distributor buys or receives products through Intel’s commercial channel and supplies them onward. Intel directs Partner Alliance members to authorized distributors for pricing and inventory information. A distributor may sell to a reseller, system builder, integrator, or business customer under its own account and terms. It is therefore usually upstream from the consumer-facing transaction.

Intel Partner Reseller
A Partner Reseller is the customer-facing seller or system builder. Intel says Partner Resellers can resell any Intel product purchased through Intel Authorized Distributors, including individual components and branded systems that contain Intel components. The reseller may set the customer quote, accept payment, arrange delivery, and provide first-line support under its sales terms.
Intel’s own wording is unambiguous: “Intel doesn’t sell directly to end users. We only sell our products through Intel® Authorized Distributors.” That statement, from the support article Does Intel Sell Direct to the Customer? (last reviewed February 14, 2025), explains why a buyer normally has another company on the invoice.
| Question | Authorized distributor | Reseller or system seller |
|---|---|---|
| Position in the channel | Upstream supply partner | Customer-facing seller or builder |
| Typical buyer | Reseller, integrator, system builder, or business account | End customer or business purchasing a finished transaction |
| Price and stock visibility | Provides channel pricing and availability to eligible partners | Quotes and sells according to its own inventory and sales terms |
| Who accepted an end-customer order? | Only if the distributor itself sold directly under its account | Usually the company named on the customer order or invoice |
| Ordinary refund or cancellation | Its contract and return terms apply when it is the seller of record | Normally handles the merchant return under its published terms |
| Intel warranty route | May have a distributor-specific process for qualifying products | Usually the first contact for a newly purchased component |
“Distributor” does not automatically mean “the party that owes you a refund.” The seller of record, the product context, and the reason for the return determine the next step.

Use the contact map below before opening a support case. It prevents an order issue from being sent to a manufacturer warranty queue or a warranty claim from being treated as a change-of-mind return.
| Situation | Best first contact | What to have ready |
|---|---|---|
| Requesting a quote, current price, or availability | Your authorized distributor or the reseller serving your account | Product name, quantity, destination country, and required delivery date |
| Order is late, wrong, incomplete, or has not shipped | The company that accepted payment and appears on the order | Order number, invoice, promised date, and a description of the discrepancy |
| Cancellation or ordinary refund | The merchant shown on the receipt or order confirmation | Order number, purchase date, and the seller’s return terms |
| Standalone Intel component that may be defective | Place of purchase within 30 days under Intel’s general guidance; Intel Customer Support after 30 days | Proof of purchase, product identifiers, and fault description |
| Intel component installed in a complete computer | System manufacturer or system seller | System model, serial number, invoice, and the component symptom |
| Product bought through a distributor under Intel’s DRA route | Distributor first; Intel support if the place of purchase cannot provide support | Distributor invoice and product identification |
Intel’s public guidance does not establish one universal fulfillment or cancellation process for every reseller. The practical rule is to follow the seller named on the transaction, because that company controls shipment, cancellation, and merchant refunds.
Quotes, inventory, and purchase orders
For businesses and channel partners
Intel directs Partner Alliance members to their Authorized Distributor for pricing and inventory. Intel’s channel guidance also says authorized distributors, suppliers, and resellers handle stock availability and pricing information. The relevant distributor may ask for an account, requested volume, delivery location, or end-use details before issuing a quote.
A price shown in an older channel document should not be treated as a current offer. Intel’s price-and-inventory guidance was last reviewed November 17, 2022. Prices, allocation, lead times, and product availability can change, so obtain a dated quote directly from the distributor or seller handling your account.

For individual buyers
If you are buying a boxed processor or another standalone component, the retailer or reseller’s listing is the commercial offer. Confirm the exact part number, whether the item is boxed or tray, the stated return window, and who appears as the seller before paying. Do not assume that a marketplace listing is an Intel-authorized source merely because it uses Intel branding.

Order problems belong to the seller of record
Late shipment or no shipment
Use the order confirmation to identify the company that accepted the order. Ask that company for the shipment status, carrier reference, revised delivery date, and cancellation options. Intel’s statement that it does not sell directly to end users means an end customer generally has no Intel retail order number to use for fulfillment escalation.
Wrong, missing, or damaged item
Photograph the package and product labels, keep the packing slip, and report the discrepancy to the seller promptly. The seller can determine whether to replace the item, correct an invoice, or direct you to its distributor. A manufacturer warranty case is not a substitute for reporting a shipment error.
Cancellation before dispatch
Ask the seller whether the order can be cancelled under its sales terms. A distributor’s agreement with a reseller does not automatically give an end customer a right to cancel a separate retail or business order. Any statutory cancellation or cooling-off right depends on the country and purchase method.

Ordinary returns are not the same as warranty claims
Merchant return, refund, or exchange
An ordinary return covers issues such as a change of mind, an incorrect purchase, or a product that does not meet the seller’s stated terms. Intel’s warranty page does not create a universal change-of-mind policy. The merchant’s sales terms and local consumer-protection rules determine whether a refund, exchange, restocking charge, or return shipping obligation applies.
Contact the merchant shown on the receipt or order confirmation. If the distributor sold directly to you, its distributor terms apply; if a reseller sold the item, the reseller’s terms apply. Keep the original packaging and proof of purchase until the seller confirms the return instructions.
Manufacturer warranty claim
A warranty claim alleges that an eligible product failed or was defective under Intel’s warranty conditions. Intel’s general guidance says to contact the place of purchase within 30 days, with exceptions based on purchase type and country. It also says consumers may contact Intel when the seller cannot provide support. After 30 days, Intel directs customers to Intel Customer Support for warranty claims.
Those timing rules are not a promise that every claim is accepted. Intel checks product eligibility, purchase channel, location, and identifying information. Read the live Intel warranty article and the product-specific terms before shipping anything, because service conditions can change.
Intel’s warranty replacement services
Intel’s page What Warranty Return Services Are Offered by Intel?, last reviewed January 28, 2026, describes three services. Availability depends on customer eligibility and country.

| Service | Who and what it covers | Timing and financial terms | Customer obligation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard Warranty Replacement (SWR) | Intel describes availability worldwide for eligible products | Intel ships a replacement after receiving and verifying the original; delivery is described as up to two weeks after the claim is initiated and the original is returned; no service fee is stated | Return the original product using Intel’s prepaid label |
| Rapid Replacement | Eligible customers in the United States and Canada; Intel boxed processors, not tray processors | Next-business-day replacement; supported credit card required; service fee and refundable deposit apply | Return the original within 30 days |
| Advanced Warranty Replacement (AWR) | Qualifying Intel Partner Alliance Prestige and Partner tiers that bought genuine Intel products through authorized channels; cited page limits the option to boxed processors | Next-business-day replacement for qualifying customers | Return the original within 30 days |
“Next-business-day” describes the replacement service for eligible cases; it does not guarantee that every customer, country, product, or claim qualifies. A tray processor is not interchangeable with a boxed processor for the Rapid Replacement and cited AWR eligibility described above.
Standalone part versus part inside a complete computer
Standalone Intel component
If you bought a processor, motherboard, server product, or another Intel component as a separate item, begin with the seller under the 30-day guidance and then use Intel Customer Support after 30 days when appropriate. The invoice must identify the original purchaser and the product sufficiently for Intel to check eligibility.
Intel component inside a finished system
If the Intel processor or other part was supplied as part of a computer, server, or other complete system, Intel says the system manufacturer covers the system warranty. Contact the system manufacturer or system seller even if you suspect the Intel component is the failed part. The system maker may require the entire unit, its serial number, or its own diagnostic process.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →This distinction avoids two common delays: sending a complete computer to Intel when the system maker is responsible, or asking a system maker to process a separately purchased component that it did not sell.
When a distributor-specific DRA route applies
Intel’s distributor return authorization guidance, commonly referred to as DRA guidance, provides a route for certain products purchased through a distributor. The cited guidance covers qualifying motherboards, systems, servers, telecom products, and optical networking products. In that situation, contact the distributor first. If the place of purchase is unavailable or cannot provide support, Intel support may be the next route under the DRA conditions.
DRA is not a blanket rule for every Intel product or every distributor transaction. Confirm that the product category, purchase channel, country, and distributor documentation match the current Intel instructions before requesting authorization.
Verify that a seller is authorized
Intel maintains a Distributor Partner Directory for current Authorized Distributors. Use the directory to check a distributor’s present status rather than relying on an old badge, cached page, or a seller’s unsupported claim. Intel also advises contacting its support team with a seller’s name to ask whether that business was previously an Authorized Distributor.
A qualifying Intel Partner Alliance member automatically becomes an Authorized Reseller, according to Intel. That membership detail is most useful for business buyers checking a claimed channel relationship. Consumers should still verify the current directory entry, retain the transaction record, and confirm who will be responsible for returns.

Documents and identifiers for a warranty claim
Gather the following before contacting Intel or the seller:
- A valid receipt or invoice showing the original purchaser.
- The product name and a clear description of the issue.
- Your contact details and shipping address.
- The product part number and, where applicable, serial number, FPO, or ATPO identifier.
- The seller or distributor name and purchase date.
- Photos of labels or packaging when the seller needs to verify the item.
Intel says its Online Warranty and Support tool can be used to check warranty eligibility. A successful lookup does not replace proof of purchase or confirm that a particular failure is covered; it is one part of the claim review.
Intel warns that it does not honor warranty requests for used, gray-market, second-hand, gifted, or products purchased outside its authorized distributor or reseller channel. A gift recipient should therefore obtain the original purchaser’s invoice, and a buyer of used equipment should not assume that the original warranty transfers.

- Identify the transaction. Find the invoice or order confirmation and note the legal name of the seller that accepted payment.
- Classify the problem. Decide whether it is a fulfillment error, an ordinary return, or a suspected product defect.
- Check the product context. Determine whether the Intel item was sold separately or installed in a complete system.
- Check the purchase date. For a standalone component, use Intel’s general within-30-days place-of-purchase route first, subject to the published exceptions; after 30 days, use Intel Customer Support for a warranty claim.
- Confirm the channel. Check the current Distributor Partner Directory or ask Intel support about the seller’s authorization history.
- Collect evidence. Prepare the invoice, product identifiers, fault description, contact information, and shipping details.
- Open one clear case. Give the seller or Intel the order number, dates, symptoms, and requested outcome. Avoid shipping a product until the responsible party issues instructions or authorization.
- Follow the correct return label and deadline. Intel replacement services may require a prepaid label, a 30-day return of the original, a deposit, or a service fee depending on the program.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
Sending every return to Intel
Intel is not the universal merchant for refunds or cancellations. Start with the seller of record for an ordinary return, shipment problem, or invoice correction.
Treating a merchant return as a warranty claim
A change-of-mind return is governed by seller terms and local law. A warranty claim concerns an eligible defect. Use the correct route so the seller can apply its return window and Intel can apply its warranty conditions.
Ignoring the complete-system rule
An Intel processor inside a branded computer normally falls under the system manufacturer’s warranty. Contacting Intel first can send you to the wrong process.
Assuming any listing is authorized
Intel’s warranty exclusions include gray-market, second-hand, gifted, and out-of-channel purchases. Verify the seller and preserve the invoice before a problem occurs.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsConfusing boxed and tray processors
Rapid Replacement and the cited AWR description distinguish boxed processors from tray processors. Record the exact package type and part number when checking eligibility.

Relying on an old price or stock statement
Channel pricing and inventory change. The older November 2022 review date for Intel’s price-and-inventory guidance is a reason to request a fresh quote rather than treating a historical figure as current.
Country, date, and contract qualifications
The routing above is based on Intel support material reviewed from 2022 through 2026, with the warranty-service page reviewed January 28, 2026 and the direct-sale statement reviewed February 14, 2025. Service availability, fees, deposits, replacement timing, directory listings, inventory, prices, merchant return terms, and consumer rights can vary by country and can change after those review dates.
Physical-store and internet purchases can receive different handling under Intel’s general timing guidance. A distributor’s business agreement may also differ from a consumer reseller’s terms. If a local law gives you a right that a seller’s policy does not mention, ask the seller to explain how it applies; do not assume Intel’s manufacturer warranty replaces that legal remedy.
Practical examples
You ordered a processor and it has not shipped
The seller shown on your confirmation is the first contact. Ask for status or cancellation under that seller’s terms. Intel does not have a direct-to-end-user fulfillment order to trace.
You received the wrong part number
Report the discrepancy to the seller, retain the packing materials, and request an exchange or correction. This is an order-accuracy issue, not automatically a warranty failure.
A separately purchased boxed processor fails after 45 days
Because the purchase is beyond the general 30-day place-of-purchase window, contact Intel Customer Support for a warranty claim, while keeping the invoice and identifiers ready. Check whether the product and channel qualify for a replacement service.
A processor fails inside a prebuilt computer
Contact the computer manufacturer or system seller. Intel identifies the system manufacturer as the party covering the system warranty.
Recommended Free Tools
A server product was bought through a distributor that has closed
Check whether the product and transaction fall under Intel’s DRA guidance. Gather the distributor invoice and contact Intel support if the place of purchase cannot provide support.
Bottom line for choosing the right contact
Use the distributor for channel quotes and stock when you are buying through a business supply relationship. Use the reseller or system seller for the order it accepted, shipment questions, cancellations, and ordinary refunds. Use Intel’s warranty process for an eligible standalone component according to the purchase-date and country rules, and use the system manufacturer for an Intel part supplied inside a complete computer. Authorization evidence, an original invoice, and the exact product identifiers determine whether a warranty route is available.
