The pack is built around the Integrated Structures mods, adding exploration, quests, recipes, lore, loot, structures, new terrain generation and expanded combat. CurseForge lists 1,845,505 downloads in 2026 and publishes a separate Integrated_Minecraft-1.6.8_server_pack.zip.
Godlike.Host offers modded Minecraft server hosting with one-click modpacks, a built-in mod installer and up to three free backups a day.
What Integrated MC is and which files you need
Integrated MC is the official modpack for the Integrated Structures mod family. The current listing covered by this guide is release 1.6.8 for Minecraft 1.20.1 using Forge. Treat those three values as one compatibility tuple: Integrated MC 1.6.8 + Minecraft 1.20.1 + Forge. Do not select a newer Minecraft branch or substitute NeoForge simply because an installer offers it.

For a dedicated server, download the separately published server-pack ZIP rather than copying a random client installation. A server pack normally removes client-only visual components and includes the files needed by a headless server. If the project does not publish a server pack for the release you selected, make a separate copy of the normal pack and use it only as a starting point; inspect its mods before the first public launch.
| Component | Use for this guide | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Pack release | Integrated MC 1.6.8 | The server and every client must run the same release. |
| Minecraft | 1.20.1 | Mods compiled for another game version can fail to load or corrupt a world. |
| Loader | Forge | The current listing is a Forge pack; a NeoForge build is not an interchangeable replacement. |
| Server files | Integrated_Minecraft-1.6.8_server_pack.zip |
This is the project’s published dedicated-server package. |
| Java | Java 17 runtime | Use a supported major version for the 1.20-era Forge branch, not whatever “latest” Java happens to be installed. |
Why the version tuple prevents most join errors
A modded server handshake checks more than the server address. The client presents its Minecraft version, loader and installed mod set. A mismatch can produce a “network protocol” error, a missing-mod screen, an immediate disconnect or a crash while loading. Pin the tuple in your server notes and give those exact values to anyone who joins.

Java requirements for Integrated MC 1.20.1
Install a 64-bit Java 17 runtime and confirm which executable your server will use. NeoForged’s version guidance places Java 17 on Minecraft 1.20.2–1.20.4 and Java 21 on 1.20.5 and later; its guidance also recommends Forge for 1.20.1 because Forge had longer support on that branch. That makes Java 17 the practical choice for this 1.20.1 Forge pack. Do not switch to Java 21 unless the exact Forge build and all mods document support for it.
On Windows, open Command Prompt and run java -version. On Linux, run the same command in a shell. The output should identify a 17.x 64-bit runtime. If it reports an older major version, install Java 17 and either update your PATH or use the full path to that executable in the server script. If multiple Java installations exist, checking the version from the same account that will launch the server avoids a common “works manually, fails as a service” problem.
- Use the same Java major version for test launches and production launches.
- Keep the Java executable separate from the Minecraft and mod files so updating one does not silently replace the other.
- Do not treat a larger heap as a fix for a wrong Java major version or an incompatible mod.
Install the dedicated server step by step
1. Prepare a clean server directory
Create a new, empty directory dedicated to this instance, such as IntegratedMC-1.6.8-server. Avoid putting it inside the client launcher’s managed files, where an update can overwrite server changes. Ensure the account running the server can read and write the directory and has enough free disk space for the generated libraries, logs and world backups.
2. Extract the published server pack
Download the Integrated MC 1.6.8 server-pack ZIP and extract its contents directly into the server directory. Do not leave the files one level deeper inside a second folder; the startup script and configuration files should be visible when you open the directory. Keep the original ZIP as a recovery copy, but never edit it in place.
3. Install the matching Forge server
Use the Forge installer for Minecraft 1.20.1 and select the server-install option. The installer’s exact filename depends on the build supplied by the pack, so select the 1.20.1 Forge installer documented for Integrated MC rather than a “latest” installer from another branch. java -jar /path/to/forge-installer.jar --installServer
Run it with the server directory as the working directory, or place the installer there before executing it. A successful installation creates Forge’s libraries and launch files. Do not run a NeoForge installer into this directory: NeoForge has a similar command-line workflow, but its libraries and loader are different.

4. Complete the first launch and accept the EULA
Start the generated script: run.bat on Windows or run.sh on Linux. The first launch normally stops after creating eula.txt. Open that file, change eula=false to eula=true only if you agree to Minecraft’s EULA, save it, and run the same script again.
If Linux refuses to execute the script, make it executable with chmod +x run.sh, then run ./run.sh. If Windows flashes a command window and closes, launch run.bat from an existing Command Prompt so the error remains visible in the console.
5. Check the generated files before inviting anyone
After a successful second launch, stop the server with stop in the console and inspect the directory. You should see a world folder, logs, Forge libraries, configuration files and a mods folder. Read the latest log for a line indicating that the server has finished loading. A clean start is easier to diagnose before networking and several players add more variables.
6. Verify the server-side mod set
Keep every mod required for gameplay in the server’s mods folder. Client-only visual, shader, menu or resource-pack helpers should not be copied to a dedicated server unless their documentation explicitly says they are server-safe. The published server pack may already have removed such files; compare its contents with the client package instead of assuming that every JAR belongs on both sides.

When a log identifies a missing dependency, add the exact dependency version required by the pack. When it identifies a client-only class or graphics library on a dedicated server, remove that mod from the server and leave it on clients only if the mod author supports that arrangement.
Install the client so players can join
Import the exact release
Each player should import Integrated MC 1.6.8 through the launcher or modpack manager that supports the project’s ZIP. Use its import-from-file function when installing from a downloaded package, then verify that the profile says Minecraft 1.20.1 and Forge. Do not let the launcher silently update the profile to another release.
Give players a reproducible checklist
- Install a 64-bit Java 17 runtime.
- Import Integrated MC 1.6.8, rather than assembling individual mods by hand.
- Confirm the profile’s Minecraft version is 1.20.1.
- Confirm the loader is Forge, not NeoForge or Fabric.
- Launch once in single-player so libraries and configs finish downloading.
- Connect only after the server operator confirms the same pack and loader are running.
Optional client visual mods can be installed only when they are documented as client-only and do not alter the required gameplay mod list. If one player has added or removed a gameplay JAR, the safest fix is to export a clean profile from the same release and compare its mods folder with the server’s required list.
Make the server reachable from the Internet
Local network test first
Test from a computer on the same network before changing router settings. The joining player should use the host computer’s private IPv4 address, not its public address. This separates Minecraft configuration problems from port-forwarding and firewall problems.
Recommended Free Tools
Open the firewall and forward the port
For Internet play, allow the Java server process through the host firewall and forward the server’s listening port on the router to the host computer’s private address. The default Minecraft Java port is 25565. If you changed server-port in server.properties, forward that custom port instead and tell players to include it after the address.

- Options Personalize your character, then fight up-close and personal with melee swings, hang back with ranged attacks, or tank your way through swarms of mobs, by heavy armor
Use a reserved DHCP lease or a static private address for the host so a router reboot does not send the forward to a different computer. Expose only the Minecraft port, keep the operating system patched, and never publish remote-administration ports simply to make the game connection work.
Tell players what address to use
Players outside your home network need the public address (or a DNS name you control) and the port when it is not 25565. Players on the same LAN should continue using the private address. If the public address changes, update the address you distribute; a successful local test does not prove that the router is forwarding correctly.
Self-hosting or managed hosting?
Self-hosting keeps the files and operating decisions under your control and can avoid a recurring hosting bill, but you must maintain Java, the server process, backups, firewall rules, router forwarding and power or uptime. A home connection may also have upload limits or carrier-grade NAT that prevents inbound connections.

Providers commonly offer one-click modpack installers or let you upload a server-pack ZIP, choose a Java runtime and select a Minecraft version. The service still needs the correct Integrated MC files; an installer that supports Forge in general may not include this specific pack.

|---|---|---|
| Setup | Install Java, Forge, scripts and networking yourself. | Panel-assisted setup, with manual server-pack upload when necessary. |

Questions to ask a host before uploading
- Does the plan support Minecraft 1.20.1 Forge and allow this server-pack ZIP?
- Can you select Java 17 instead of being locked to another runtime?
- How much RAM and what CPU allocation are guaranteed, rather than merely advertised?
- Are SFTP or equivalent file access, scheduled restarts and console access available?
- Are backups automatic, how long are they retained, and can you roll back a single world?
- Where is the server located relative to the players, and what are the cancellation terms?
Memory, CPU and startup settings
Forge modpacks need more memory than an unmodded server, but the correct amount depends on world size, view distance, entity count and player load. Start with the allocation recommended by the pack or hosting panel, then observe the server log and operating-system memory use during a real session. Increase the heap only when the process is genuinely short of memory and the machine has spare RAM.

The generated startup files may reference a JVM-argument file. Change heap values there rather than deleting the pack’s arguments. Leave memory for the operating system and other services; assigning nearly all physical RAM can cause swapping and make tick performance worse. More RAM cannot repair a wrong loader, Java incompatibility or mismatched mod list.
Updating safely
Stop the server cleanly and make a dated, restorable copy of the entire world before changing the pack, Forge build or a large group of mods. NeoForged’s server documentation states: “Always backup your world before updating NeoForge or mods!” The same operational rule applies here even though this pack’s current branch uses Forge.
- Stop the server with the console
stopcommand. - Copy the world folder and, preferably, the whole server directory to storage that is not the live instance.
- Record the old pack release, Forge build, Java version and configuration changes.
- Update one variable at a time, beginning with the pack’s documented release or loader build.
- Start the server and inspect the log before allowing players to connect.
- Test a copy of the world when an update changes terrain generation or major content.
Never overwrite your only backup with a newly converted world. A rollback is useful only when the backup predates the update and can be restored to a clean server directory.
Troubleshooting: diagnose one layer at a time
The server stops immediately
- Check
java -versionfrom the same account that launches the script; use Java 17 for this 1.20.1 Forge branch. - Confirm the Forge installer and libraries are for Minecraft 1.20.1, not another game version.
- Read the first error and its “caused by” section in the latest log instead of treating the final shutdown line as the cause.
- Temporarily remove the last mod or configuration change, then retest. Change one variable at a time.
A player gets a missing-mod or incompatible-version message
Compare the player’s pack release, Minecraft version, Forge loader and gameplay mods with the server. Reinstalling the complete 1.6.8 profile is usually safer than adding individual JARs until the lists appear similar. Keep client-only visual files off the server, but do not remove a mod that the server log identifies as required.
The server loads but nobody can connect from outside
- Confirm the server is listening on the intended port in
server.properties. - Allow Java through the host firewall on the correct network profile.
- Forward the same port from the router to the host’s current private address.
- Test from a different Internet connection; testing the public address from inside the same LAN can fail on routers without hairpin support.
- Check for carrier-grade NAT or an ISP policy that blocks inbound connections. If present, use a reachable host or a private networking solution rather than exposing unrelated ports.
Players time out or experience severe lag
First separate network latency from server tick delay. Check the host CPU, available memory, disk activity and upload capacity while players are online. Reduce view or simulation distance if the machine is overloaded, and avoid assigning so much heap that the operating system starts swapping. A distant server location can increase latency even when the mod configuration is correct.
The world behaves incorrectly after an update
Stop the server, restore the dated pre-update backup to a separate test directory, and verify the old pack and Forge build. If the old copy works, review the changed mod or loader rather than repeatedly launching the new version against the only world. Keep the restored backup untouched until the update has been validated.

- Integrated MC 1.6.8, Minecraft 1.20.1 and Forge are recorded as the server tuple.
- The published server-pack ZIP was extracted into a dedicated directory.
- Java 17 is confirmed for the launch account.
- The Forge server installer completed without mixing in NeoForge files.
- The EULA was accepted and the second launch reaches a ready state.
- The server’s
modsfolder contains only server-required files. - Each player has the identical pack release, Minecraft version and Forge loader.
- Local-network joining works before Internet forwarding is attempted.
- The firewall and router forward the configured port, normally 25565.
- A dated world backup exists before any update or major configuration change.
Following this order turns most setup failures into a specific, testable mismatch instead of a guess. Keep the original server pack, version notes and backups together so you can reproduce a known-good installation after an update or hardware change.
