The Ministry of Approvals is a satirical web app, not a real public agency. Built by MANIFESTA for a Sanity developer challenge, it turns a deliberately unreliable form process into a data-backed workflow: AI clerks handle comic bureaucratic tasks, a human Minister makes the final call, and an approved submission can receive a certificate on a public wall.
What the Ministry does
In MANIFESTA’s project, a user can submit almost anything: a meme, a cat name, a plan, or a complaint. The submission then passes through fictional departments staffed by three AI clerks:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Pedantry invents a missing requirement.
- Rubber Stamps approves without reading.
- The Archive loses forms and invents explanations.
As the creator puts the gag, “The Archive loses every third form and hands you a receipt explaining where it probably went.” That is a rule of the satire, not a claim about real government services. After the clerks’ steps, a human Minister can approve, reject, or refer the submission. An approved item may then appear on a public wall with a certificate, stamps, and an audit trail.

The key design choice is that the process state lives in a Sanity Workflow instance, separate from the submission document. MANIFESTA says the public status page reads that instance, while the departments and clerk personalities are content: their names, mottos, stamp colors, and prompts can be edited as data. The creator reports seven workflow stages, including the three AI clerks, a human decision stage, and a delay path that sends overdue work back to the Archive.

The author describes the implementation as combining Sanity Workflows, Agent Actions, Functions, an App SDK dashboard app, an Astro website, and a certificate image renderer. Website, back-office, command-line, and Studio-plugin actions reportedly share an audit trail. Those details describe MANIFESTA’s build; they are not independent verification of a deployed service.
Sanity’s Workflows cookbook says Workflows is an early-access feature and that a connected runtime is needed to start or advance instances and process effects. A workflow definition by itself does not run. Sanity’s App SDK documentation describes custom React applications for interacting with Sanity content, including real-time operations; its listed prerequisites include React 19 or later and Node.js 22.12 or later. Those documents explain the platform’s general model, not whether this particular project’s reported setup is independently validated.

What the creator reports so far
In the October 4, 2026 post, MANIFESTA reports three Agent Actions calls per clean pass and two Sanity Functions. The author also says the project had processed eight production submissions, three of which were lost, and that 14 tests ran in 0.6 seconds. These are the creator’s own figures, not audited usage or independent performance measurements. The tests used an in-memory workflow engine and a controlled clock; the author also describes a deadline test whose behavior depended on the Content Lake wall clock.
What broke during the build
The post is also a record of implementation friction, not just a description of the finished joke. MANIFESTA says Workflows package peer dependencies led to pinning the Studio to version 6.9.2. The author encountered a Dashboard iframe hang involving useWorkflowSession, and says that issue remained the part of the build they understood least.

Event delivery was usually about four seconds in the creator’s experience, but once took three minutes. To recover effects left unclaimed for 30 seconds, the author added a status poll. These timings and remedies are specific to this build and report, not a guarantee of how Sanity behaves for other projects.
What the project demonstrates
The Ministry’s joke depends on a useful structural separation: the form is the submitted content, while its bureaucratic journey is process state. Putting department behavior in editable content makes the absurd rules configurable; routing decisions through a workflow makes the stages and transitions explicit; and giving a person the final decision creates a human checkpoint after automated steps. The shared audit trail, as described by the author, ties activity across interfaces together.

- Portable & Lightweight: 13 x 9.5 inches. Fit A4/letter size documents. Compact and lightweight for easy carrying. Easily take your paperwork to a meeting or school
The trade-off is that an early-access workflow feature and a custom runtime add integration work. MANIFESTA’s account illustrates both sides: the workflow gave the satire a clear process model, while version friction, delayed events, and an unresolved iframe issue complicated the implementation. It is a specific creator’s technical account rather than a formal comparison of platforms.
