The official CurseForge files list client release v1.3.1.1 (uploaded September 6, 2024) and a separate InsaneCraft Server v1.3.0 download. Install it through the CurseForge app, allocate at least 6 GB of memory (8 GB is the project’s better target), and use the separate server pack for multiplayer.
Running a modpack with friends? Godlike.Host offers modded Minecraft server hosting with one-click modpacks (CurseForge, FTB, Technic) and free DDoS protection.
The project is finished: its maintainer says v1.3.1 was the last official update, with no further bug fixes or support. That makes version matching especially important. This guide covers the exact client requirements, memory settings, dedicated-server installation, Java and EULA steps, connection checks, and the fixes for common launch and join errors.

What InsaneCraft is and which version is official
InsaneCraft is the official SparkUniverse_ modpack distributed through CurseForge. It combines exploration, adventure and RPG progression with magic and technology systems. Its central challenge is to collect the Infinity Stones and become Thanos, and the project description advertises more than 250 mods plus the Lost Infinity Mod.
The current official files are tied to the old but specific Minecraft and mod-loader combination shown below. A newer Minecraft profile or a Fabric profile is not an equivalent installation.

Hardware and software requirements
Minecraft Java Edition
You need Minecraft: Java Edition on a PC. The server software is also for Java Edition; a Bedrock installation cannot load a Forge 1.12.2 modpack. Keep the Minecraft account, launcher and game installation updated enough to start a 1.12.2 profile, but do not let the launcher replace that profile with a newer game version.
Memory allocation
The project lists three client memory targets. They are practical guidance, not a guarantee for every processor, graphics driver or background workload.
| Project label | Allocated RAM | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Low | 6 GB | Minimum project guidance; close unnecessary applications and expect longer loading in busy areas. |
| Better | 8 GB | Recommended starting point for most players with a 16 GB or larger computer. |
| High | 16 GB | Useful only when the computer has substantially more physical memory; do not starve the operating system. |
Do not assign all of a computer’s RAM to Minecraft. Windows, macOS or Linux, the launcher, graphics software and voice/chat applications also need memory. If the machine has 16 GB total, an 8 GB allocation leaves a workable margin; allocating 16 GB on that machine would force the operating system to swap and can make stuttering worse. Increase memory only after confirming that the computer still has free physical RAM during loading and play.
Java runtime
Legacy Forge 1.12.2 installations are most predictably supported by a 64-bit Java 8 runtime. The cited Forge setup guidance uses the Java 8 family as its baseline. A newer Java runtime can produce an immediate startup error or incompatibility, so select Java 8 when the launcher or server reports a Java-related failure. Minecraft’s server documentation also requires a compatible Java Runtime Environment rather than a particular vendor.

Install InsaneCraft with the CurseForge app
The CurseForge app is the safest client route because it creates a managed profile with the Minecraft version, Forge loader and mod files associated with the project.
- Install and open the CurseForge app, then choose its Minecraft section.
- Use the browse or search function to find the official InsaneCraft project by SparkUniverse_.
- Before installing, verify that the selected file targets Minecraft 1.12.2 and Forge. The current client file listed by the project is v1.3.1.1.
- Click Install. The app creates a separate modpack profile instead of changing an existing vanilla profile.
- Open the profile’s settings and set memory to at least 6 GB. Start with 8 GB when the computer has enough physical RAM, keeping room for the operating system.
- Go to My Modpacks, select InsaneCraft and click Play. Let the launcher finish downloading and preparing the 1.12.2 Forge instance before opening a world.
The first launch can take considerably longer than vanilla Minecraft because Forge must load hundreds of mods and generate configuration data. A slow first start is not, by itself, evidence of a failed installation. Watch for a completed main menu; a crash report, Java error or return to the launcher requires troubleshooting rather than repeated blind launches.
Verify the profile before creating a world
- The profile identifies Minecraft 1.12.2, not a current Minecraft release.
- The loader is Forge, not Fabric or a vanilla profile.
- The mod list contains the InsaneCraft content and is not an empty custom instance.
- The assigned memory is visible in the profile or launcher settings and does not exceed the computer’s practical capacity.
Create a test single-player world only after the main menu loads. Keeping the official profile intact makes it easier to compare a multiplayer installation later.
Set up an InsaneCraft dedicated server
Use the project’s separate InsaneCraft Server v1.3.0 download for a dedicated server. Do not turn the client profile directory into a server by deleting or renaming files. A server pack normally includes server-appropriate mods and configuration that differ from a client-only profile.
1. Prepare a dedicated directory
- Create a new folder used only for this server. A short path such as
C:MinecraftInsaneCraft-Serveron Windows or~/minecraft/insanecraft-serveron Linux makes permissions and backups easier. - Download the official InsaneCraft Server v1.3.0 archive from the project’s files page.
- Extract the archive directly into the new directory. Keep the downloaded archive as a backup, but do not run the server from inside a compressed file.
Give the directory write permission for the account that will run the server. The server needs to create worlds, logs, configurations and the EULA file during its first run.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:

2. Install or confirm Forge 1.12.2
The server must use the Forge files intended for Minecraft 1.12.2. Some server packs include a ready-to-launch Forge server; others include an installer or the files needed to complete installation. Follow the pack’s included instructions and run the Forge server setup once in the server directory. Do not substitute a vanilla 1.12.2 jar: vanilla will not load the mod registry required by InsaneCraft.
Use a 64-bit Java 8 runtime for this legacy Forge environment. Confirm which Java executable the operating system will use before troubleshooting the server; a machine can have several Java versions installed.
3. Perform the first run
Start the Forge server once from its own directory. The first run commonly stops after creating files, including eula.txt. That stop is expected: Minecraft requires the operator to review and accept its EULA before the server can continue.
If you need a command-line launch, the general form is:
java -Xms4G -Xmx8G -jar <forge-server-jar>.jar nogui
Replace the code-style jar name with the actual Forge server jar supplied by the pack. The initial and maximum memory values are examples; choose values that fit the host’s physical RAM. A graphical server window is unnecessary, which is why nogui is commonly used.

- Skins! We have biome settlers, city folk, town folk, and more!
- The Nether and all its inhabitants. Fight Ghasts and make friends with Pigmen
- Cross platform play for up to five players between Pocket Edition and Windows 10
- Revamped touch controls, controller support, and a controller mapping screen
- Enhanced Weather effects! Accumulating snow and more
4. Accept the EULA and relaunch
- Open the newly generated
eula.txtin a plain-text editor. - Read the Minecraft EULA and change the acceptance setting to the value required by the file, normally
eula=true, only if you agree to the terms. - Save the file without adding a second extension such as
.txt.txt. - Launch the same Forge server jar again.
If eula.txt does not exist, the server was not run successfully in the intended directory. Start it once from that directory, inspect the console for a Java or permission error, and then repeat the edit after the file is generated.
5. Let Forge finish generating server files
Allow the second launch to complete before stopping the process. Forge may create configuration folders, a world directory, logs and additional files. Stop a running server with the console’s normal stop command rather than closing the terminal, so the world is saved cleanly.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →6. Preserve the server-pack contents
Use the server pack’s mod and configuration files as provided. Copying every file from a client profile can introduce client-only mods and cause a dedicated server crash. Conversely, removing a server-side mod or changing a registry-affecting configuration can prevent clients from joining.
Connect players to the server
Match the installation exactly
Every player should install the matching InsaneCraft client release and the same Forge 1.12.2 environment. A player on a different pack revision, Forge build, mod list or configuration can receive missing-mod, registry or channel errors even when the server itself starts normally.
- Compare the displayed InsaneCraft release on every client.
- Compare the Forge build shown by each launcher.
- Compare the contents of the server’s
modsand configuration directories with the official client files where the pack instructions require parity. - Remove unrelated performance, minimap or gameplay mods while testing; add optional changes only after a clean connection works.
Local network
Players on the same home network can usually connect using the server computer’s local IP address and the configured Minecraft port. The server console or operating system network settings can show that address. Test locally first: it separates mod and Java problems from router or firewall problems.
Best Value
- Play and share with friends on console, mobile and Windows 10
- discover community creations in the new in-game store
- access new mini games and game modes through servers
Internet access
For friends outside the home network, the server operator must allow the Minecraft port through the computer’s firewall and, where applicable, forward that port from the router to the server computer. Use the server’s external address only after a local connection succeeds. Do not publish administrative credentials or expose unrelated services while configuring remote access.

Choosing managed hosting
Before paying for a hosted instance, ask the provider to confirm all of the following in writing:
- Custom Forge 1.12.2 server-pack uploads are permitted.
- A 64-bit Java 8 runtime can be selected or supplied.
- The provider permits the mod and configuration files included in InsaneCraft Server v1.3.0.
- The plan offers enough memory for a world with more than 250 mods and leaves headroom for the operating system and panel processes.
- You can upload backups and retrieve logs when a legacy Forge process fails.
Managed-server tools and Docker images can deploy many modpacks, but a generic modpack installer does not guarantee compatibility with InsaneCraft’s CurseForge archive. Confirm support for this exact 1.12.2 Forge pack before purchasing.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Server memory, performance and maintenance
The project’s 6 GB, 8 GB and 16 GB figures describe client allocation. A dedicated server also needs memory for the operating system, Java overhead, world data and any players exploring new chunks. Start with a conservative maximum that leaves headroom, monitor the console and system memory, and increase it only when the host has unused physical RAM.
Large modpacks often pause while generating terrain or loading a new dimension. Distinguish a temporary generation pause from a Java heap failure: a heap error or an operating-system out-of-memory event requires memory and mod/configuration review, while a short pause during first-time chunk generation may resolve on its own.
- Keep the server directory on a fast local drive when possible.
- Back up the world, configuration directory and server properties before changing mods or settings.
- Stop the server cleanly before copying a backup.
- Record the exact pack and Forge versions in the backup name so an old world is not paired accidentally with a changed registry.
- Do not expect official patches for newly discovered bugs; the project has ended official maintenance.
Troubleshooting InsaneCraft
| Symptom | Likely cause | Action |
|---|---|---|
| The launcher opens vanilla Minecraft | The wrong profile was selected. | Open the InsaneCraft profile and verify Minecraft 1.12.2 plus Forge before pressing Play. |
| The profile shows Fabric or another game version | A custom profile was created instead of the official project. | Delete or disable the incorrect profile and install the official CurseForge project targeting 1.12.2 Forge. |
| Immediate Java error on the client or server | Incompatible Java runtime, commonly a newer runtime used with legacy Forge. | Select a 64-bit Java 8 runtime, confirm the launcher or service points to it, and retry. |
| Out-of-memory crash or severe pauses | Too little heap, too much heap assigned, or insufficient physical RAM. | Start at 6–8 GB, close competing applications, and increase only within the computer’s available physical memory. |
| The server starts but a player cannot join | Pack, Forge, mod or configuration mismatch. | Compare exact client and server releases, Forge builds and mod/config contents; remove unrelated additions while testing. |
| The server stops after its first launch | The EULA file has not been accepted. | Open the generated eula.txt, review the EULA, set the required acceptance value and relaunch. |
No eula.txt appears |
The process did not complete a first run or is using the wrong directory. | Run the Forge server from its dedicated folder and inspect the console for Java or permission errors. |
| A vanilla jar launches but mods are absent | The startup command points to the vanilla server jar. | Stop it and launch the installed Forge server jar instead. |
| Players ask for a newer official build | InsaneCraft is frozen. | Use the final published files; the maintainer states that no further updates, bug fixes or support will be provided. |
How to evaluate an alternative modpack
If you are deciding whether to keep InsaneCraft or move to another pack, compare facts rather than screenshots or mod counts. Check these items before installing a replacement:
Quick Recap
- Minecraft and loader version: a modern Forge or Fabric pack may avoid the Java 8 and legacy-launcher constraints, while a 1.12.2 pack may preserve the older mod ecosystem.
- Maintenance status: determine whether the author still publishes fixes and supports current launchers.
- Client memory: compare the documented minimum and recommended allocations with the computer’s physical RAM.
- Server distribution: verify that a separate server pack exists if you plan to host multiplayer.
- Gameplay focus: decide whether the pack’s balance of magic, technology, exploration and RPG progression matches your group.
- Hosting compatibility: obtain confirmation that a host supports the exact loader, Java runtime and custom files before migrating a world.
What to remember before you install
- Use Minecraft Java Edition 1.12.2 with Forge; do not substitute a newer version or Fabric.
- Install the client from the official InsaneCraft CurseForge project and select the listed v1.3.1.1 release.
- Allocate 6 GB at minimum guidance, 8 GB as the practical starting target, and 16 GB only when the computer can spare it.
- For multiplayer, download InsaneCraft Server v1.3.0 separately and keep it in its own directory.
- Run the Forge server with a compatible 64-bit Java 8 runtime, complete the first run, accept the EULA and relaunch.
- Make every player’s pack, Forge build, mods and configurations match the server.
- Treat the project as frozen software: there will be no official bug-fix release or support update after the final version.
