To improve an Immortal without paying, spend fragments in the order that produces a usable gain: develop the Immortal toward the next star milestone, unlock a Tower of Knowledge skill only when an open slot can equip it, and keep enough resources for the role and season you actually play. Quality (often called rarity) affects starting strength and the size of star-up attribute gains, while stars also upgrade the Immortal’s initial skill and open skill slots at the documented three- and seven-star thresholds. Exact fragment costs and skill availability change, so verify the live values in your client.
What Immortal quality, stars, and skills each control
Infinity Kingdom uses several progression systems that are easy to conflate. Quality determines an Immortal’s tier and influences how much the character benefits when a new star is reached. Star development consumes Immortal Fragments, raises attributes by a percentage, improves the Immortal’s initial skill, and eventually opens additional skill slots. Tower of Knowledge skills are a separate way to spend fragments: they add skills that can be equipped in the slots you have already unlocked. Later systems, including Immortal Specialization, add their own materials and stages rather than replacing the star system.

The most useful mental model is therefore:
- Quality: the Immortal’s documented tier and a modifier on star-up gains.
- Stars: the core development track for attributes, the initial skill, and slot milestones.
- Immortal Fragments: the shared currency used for development and for unlocking Tower of Knowledge skills.
- Tower of Knowledge: a separate source of battle and utility skills that can be equipped only in available slots.
- Specialization: a later progression layer with position-specific and universal materials.
These distinctions matter most when fragments are scarce. A skill that cannot yet be equipped gives no immediate combat value, whereas a star that improves attributes or unlocks a slot can affect the formation now.

Quality (rarity): Uncommon through Epic
A GTarcade-hosted player guide dated May 18, 2020 lists four quality levels: Uncommon, Rare, Elite, and Epic. It says strength rises with quality and that higher-quality Immortals receive larger attribute increases when they reach a new star. Quality is not a guarantee that one Immortal wins every matchup. A developed lower-quality Immortal with a compatible element, position, and skill package can be more useful than an undeveloped higher-quality one. The evidence supports a difference in baseline and star-up gains, not an automatic ranking of every team composition.
What a star upgrade actually changes
The same 2020 player guide states: “Developing an Immortal will increase his/her attributes by a percentage and upgrade their skill.” It identifies development as the route for improving the Immortal’s initial skill. The guide is attributed to LordLEO, a beta-server player, and dated May 18, 2020. A second guide repeats the slot milestones and warns players not to unlock skills for slots that are not yet usable. Attributes and the initial skill
Each development step advances the Immortal’s attributes by the percentage shown in the client and improves the built-in initial skill. Because the guides do not provide a verified, current cost schedule by quality and star, do not rely on old tables or assume every server uses the same number of fragments. Open the Immortal’s development screen and confirm the next requirement before committing resources.

The documented slot milestones

These thresholds come from player-made guides published in 2020. They are useful baseline rules, but the live client is authoritative if a later patch changes a threshold, interface, or requirement.

How to decide where limited fragments go
Fragments have two competing early uses: developing an Immortal and unlocking a Tower of Knowledge skill. Use this sequence instead of buying a skill because it looks powerful in isolation.
- Choose the actual user. Identify the Immortal, its position, damage or support role, and whether it is part of the formation you expect to keep. A fragment investment is harder to justify for a temporary filler than for a core unit.
- Check open slots first. On the Immortal detail screen, count the slots that are currently unlocked. The documented milestones are three stars for the second slot and seven stars for the third; a skill for a locked slot cannot help until that slot exists.
- Inspect the next development requirement. Compare the fragment amount shown for the next star with your available stock. Do not use a historical cost chart as a current guarantee; no complete, current cost table by quality and star is established here.
- Compare immediate outcomes. Development gives the displayed attribute increase and an initial-skill upgrade. A Tower of Knowledge unlock gives a selectable skill, but only if it can be equipped in an open slot and is available in your current season and version.
- Spend, then recheck the build. After reaching a milestone, return to the skill screen. The best choice can change when a second or third slot opens, especially if your first skill choice was made for an earlier role.
This is a decision framework, not a universal build ranking. A control, healing, tank, or damage Immortal may value different skills, and balance changes can alter the comparison.
Tower of Knowledge skills are a separate progression
The Tower of Knowledge is described as the place to unlock battle and utility skills. Immortal Fragments are required for those unlocks, which is why the system competes directly with star development for early resources. The 2020 guide’s warning is straightforward: do not unlock skills for slots you have not opened. See the documented slot and skill guidance.

Skills are not necessarily available to every new account at the same time. Official v2.9.9 notes dated September 3, 2026 show the schedule changing by season. Energy Mastery was moved to S2, while Arcane Hunter, Divine Blessing, and Eternal Battlelust were moved to Conquest Season. A skill listed in an old guide may therefore be absent from your current Tower, locked behind a season, or have a different effect. Read the v2.9.9 patch notes.

Use the live description, not a remembered percentage
Psychic Vortex illustrates why version labels matter. In v2.9.9 it is obtained from the Wish Shop during Legendary Season. Its effect increases Magical Damage by “9%+3%/level” when HP decreases by 10% or an Ultimate Skill is cast, and it can stack up to five times. The notation is level-dependent; do not turn it into one fixed percentage without specifying the skill level. Check the official v2.9.9 wording.
A practical free-to-play plan for a new account
If you have played for about a week and an Immortal is around level 24, the level number alone does not tell you whether fragments are being spent efficiently. Follow the resource order below and use the values displayed by your own server.
1. Stabilize one useful formation
Pick a main team with a clear front-row or back-row plan and avoid spreading every fragment across the entire roster. Quality, element, position, and role determine whether development will remain useful; an Epic that does not fit your formation is not automatically the right first target.
2. Push toward a meaningful star threshold
Before three stars, development toward the second-slot milestone can be more immediately useful than unlocking a skill you cannot equip. Once three stars are reached, compare the newly available slot with the next star’s attribute and initial-skill improvement. At seven stars, make the same comparison for the third slot, but only if the Immortal is a long-term member of your team.

3. Keep a fragment reserve
Do not reduce your balance to zero for a situational Tower skill. A reserve lets you respond when a season unlocks a better-fitting option or when a patch changes an effect. The game does not publish one permanent, universal cost schedule in the sources available here, so your client’s current requirement should control the decision.
4. Upgrade skills that match the job
Damage dealers, defenders, healers, and control units do not benefit from the same package. Read trigger conditions, target rules, duration, and scaling at the skill’s current level. A skill that requires an Ultimate cast, a low-health state, or a specific row may be powerful only when your formation reliably creates that condition.

Recommendations in an older forum discussion may no longer match the current meta; use the article to understand the resource structure and the live client to confirm effects and costs.
Why current patch notes matter
Named skills can change independently of the star system. v2.9.9 provides a concrete example with Horus, a Chaos Immortal in the back-row Magic position who commands Bowmen. His Royal Sarcophagus passive limits each instance of damage received to “19%-2%/level of Max HP.” Its active deals Magical Damage to all enemies at “204%+28%/level,” with a 60% chance to apply Punishment for six seconds; Punishment increases damage received by 4.5% + 1.5% per level. Horus’s exclusive artifact raises the Punishment application chance to 100%. These figures describe that patch’s named skills, not a general rule for what stars do. See the official Horus details.
The same notes’ Psychic Vortex change shows another risk: access can be tied to a shop and a season, while effects use level scaling and stacking. Read the current patch notes before saving fragments for a skill advertised in an older guide.
Level caps and other dated requirements
An official-channel v2.8.8 notice dated November 2025 states that level-60 Immortals and Tier 35 advancement apply only after entering Legendary Season. The later v2.9.9 notes do not independently reconfirm those caps. Treat the v2.8.8 information as dated context and check your season, server rules, and client tooltip before planning around a level or tier ceiling. Read the v2.8.8 notice.
Common fragment mistakes and fixes
- Unlocking a skill for a locked slot: wait until the three- or seven-star milestone shown in your client opens the slot.
- Assuming quality decides everything: compare the Immortal’s role, element, position, and usable skills before committing to a higher-tier unit.
- Using a 2020 cost table as current: treat the player guides as baseline mechanics and verify today’s fragment requirement in-game.
- Ignoring season gates: check whether the skill is available in your current season, especially after a patch moves skills between S2, Conquest, or Legendary content.
- Mixing specialization with stars: record Master Marks, Master Insights, Well of Time stages, and ordinary fragments as separate progression requirements.
- Copying a skill percentage without its level: preserve the client’s “base + per-level” notation and stack limit so you do not overstate the effect.
A repeatable checklist before every fragment purchase
- Is this Immortal in the formation you are actively developing?
- What quality tier is it, and how does that affect the next star’s displayed attribute gain?
- Will the purchase reach or move you toward the next useful star milestone?
- Which skill slots are open right now?
- Is the Tower of Knowledge skill available in this version and season?
- Does its trigger and target fit the Immortal’s role?
- How many fragments remain for the next development or seasonal opportunity?
- Are you actually comparing star development, a Tower skill, or specialization materials?
If the answer to the slot, availability, or role questions is unclear, pause and inspect the current tooltips rather than spending fragments on a locked or unavailable option.
The Bottom Line
Quality sets the tier and influences star-up gains; stars improve attributes and the initial skill while opening the second and third slots at the documented three- and seven-star points. Spend fragments on development first when it creates an immediate milestone, unlock Tower of Knowledge skills only for open slots that fit your current season and role, and treat specialization as a separate later system. Because the foundational guides date from 2020 and skills continue to move by patch and season, confirm every cost, cap, and effect in the live client.
