Available sources do not verify the claim that Motilal Oswal singled out Power Grid, Adani Energy, Torrent and three others as a six-stock list; they support a broader look at potential exposure instead.
What is the ₹1.86 trillion PM-DHARA plan?
Outlook Money reported on October 1, 2026, that the Cabinet-approved PM-DHARA / Green Energy Corridor Phase III scheme has a total outlay of ₹1,86,405 crore through fiscal year 2033. Its reported purpose is to strengthen state-level transmission and storage so renewable electricity can be moved from generation sites to the grid and, ultimately, to consumers.

| Reported component | Reported allocation or objective | Source and qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Intra-state transmission systems (InSTS) | ₹1,36,378 crore; infrastructure intended to evacuate about 135 GW of green power | Outlook Money, October 1, 2026 |
| Battery energy storage systems | ₹50,000 crore; capacity described as 50 GW in Outlook Money | Outlook Money, October 1, 2026; a reproduced Motilal Oswal commentary uses 50 GWh instead, so the capacity unit is unresolved in the available reporting |
| Central financial assistance | ₹54,082 crore | Reported by Outlook Money, October 1, 2026, as support intended to ease the burden on state transmission utilities |
The 135 GW figure is the reported renewable-power evacuation objective, not a measure of new generation capacity or a guaranteed amount of electricity delivered. The storage-unit discrepancy matters: GW measures power capacity, while GWh measures stored energy. Without an official release establishing which unit applies, the 50 figure should not be treated as a settled capacity specification.
Which companies have potential exposure?
The clearest way to assess possible beneficiaries is by business role. Owners and operators may bid to build transmission assets; EPC contractors may construct them; and equipment makers may supply transformers, grid systems and related hardware. The company-specific points below describe exposure or market commentary, not selection for a tender.

| Company or group | Why it is in the conversation | What the available reporting does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Power Grid Corporation of India | Outlook Money describes Power Grid as a major inter-state transmission operator expanding into intra-state work through competitive bidding. The article reports that the company’s FY26 presentation showed a pipeline of 21 InSTS projects worth nearly ₹17,574 crore. | The pipeline is not equivalent to contracts won under this scheme or revenue already secured. |
| Adani Energy Solutions | Outlook Money points to the company’s multi-state transmission footprint and existing intra-state assets as possible sources of exposure. | The reporting does not show that the scheme has selected the company or that it has won a related award. |
| KEC International | Outlook Money discusses its engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) work and transmission-and-distribution exposure. Contractors could compete for line, tower and substation construction if utilities tender projects. | The article’s backlog and business exposure do not establish a PM-DHARA-specific order. |
| Tata Power | Outlook Money cites its transmission portfolio and storage activity as potential exposure to the plan’s transmission and battery elements. | That exposure does not establish a contract award or a specific contribution to future earnings. |
| Hitachi Energy India, GE Vernova T&D India, Transformers & Rectifiers India, and CG Power | Upstox’s October 1, 2026, “stocks to watch” coverage names these equipment and transmission companies alongside Power Grid and Adani Energy Solutions as possible order-flow plays. | This is market commentary, not evidence of scheme tenders awarded to any of the named firms. |
Torrent is named in the supplied headline, but the available reporting does not establish its inclusion in a Motilal Oswal six-stock selection or provide a scheme-specific rationale for it. The sources also do not verify which three companies, if any, complete the headline’s claimed list.
What did Motilal Oswal actually say?
The specific attribution of a six-stock PM-DHARA list to Motilal Oswal is not verified by the available material. An October 1, 2026, reproduction of the brokerage’s daily commentary discusses Cabinet clearance and the scheme’s broad objectives, but does not name the six stocks.
Rank #2
A separate Moneycontrol report, published March 24, 2026, says Motilal Oswal had a Neutral rating and a ₹302 target for Power Grid in a note dated March 23. That dated view discussed a renewable-integration transmission pipeline through FY36 and other long-term opportunities, while noting that elevated capital expenditure could weigh on shareholder returns. It is a Power Grid call from March, not a current recommendation on six companies or a scheme-specific endorsement.
Motilal Oswal Financial Services’ September 2024 utilities thematic report estimated an Indian power-sector investment opportunity of ₹40 trillion or more over the following decade. It rated Power Grid, JSW Energy and Tata Power Buy, and NTPC and IEX Neutral. That brokerage estimate is historical sector context—not a government budget, a forecast of scheme awards or a current stock list.

The announced allocation is only the beginning of a project and earnings chain. Outlook Money identifies competitive tariff-based bidding, state approvals and right-of-way clearances as important conditions. A company’s exposure becomes financially meaningful only if it wins work and can execute it on schedule.
- Project preparation: State utilities must define transmission needs, prepare projects and be ready to take them through procurement.
- Tender and award: Eligible bidders compete; a potential beneficiary becomes a contractor or asset owner only after an award.
- Approvals and access: State approvals, land access and right-of-way can affect whether construction starts and proceeds on time.
- Procurement and execution: The awarded company must source equipment, build the project and manage delivery risks.
- Commissioning and revenue: The asset or contracted work must reach the relevant operating or payment milestones before the associated revenue can be realized.
This is why a large scheme headline alone cannot show which company will benefit most. Asset owners, EPC firms and equipment suppliers participate at different points, and a company may have sector exposure without having any scheme-linked order.

What should investors check before treating a stock as a beneficiary?
- Business model: Distinguish ownership of transmission assets from EPC construction and equipment supply; the route from tender activity to revenue differs for each.
- Evidence of an actual award: Look for a company disclosure or a credible report identifying the project and the award, rather than relying on a stock-watch list or general exposure.
- Execution conditions: Check approval, right-of-way, procurement and commissioning progress, since delays can postpone project delivery and related revenue.
- Financial capacity and valuation: Assess the company’s ability to fund and execute work, and its valuation. The cited material does not provide comparable current valuations for the companies discussed, so it cannot support a relative ranking.
