Index readings change through the trading session, so an opening, intraday, and closing figure cannot be treated as interchangeable. Same-day reports also gave different opening snapshots: Outlook Money reported opening gains of 431.25 points for the Sensex and 110.45 for the Nifty, while Financial Express reported 371.64 and 108.45 points, respectively. The reports appear to reflect different snapshots or market values; their opening numbers should not be combined.

Neither reviewed report verifies the headline’s 421-point and 127-point pair at a stated timestamp. Without a timestamped record, those figures cannot be confidently assigned to the open, a particular intraday moment, or the close. The figures above are contemporaneous news reports; no official BSE or NSE closing bulletin was retrieved for this account.
What did same-day coverage say was behind the rise?
News coverage associated the rebound with supportive global cues, easing crude prices, and softer-than-expected US jobs data, which reduced concern about aggressive Federal Reserve tightening. These were reported explanations for the move, not proof that any one factor caused it.

Did every sector and stock rise?
No. The benchmark indices closed higher, but sector and stock performance diverged.
- Sector indices: ANI reported that all broad-market indices ended higher. FMCG led the sectoral indices, gaining 1.67%, followed by telecom, consumer durables, and financial services. Nifty Healthcare was the top laggard. Economic Times coverage also identified FMCG and Consumer Durables among the leading sectoral gainers, with Healthcare and Pharma falling.
- Stocks named among gainers: ANI listed ITC, Eternal, Bajaj Finance, ICICI Bank, Adani Ports, Reliance, Bharti Airtel, and TCS.
- Stocks named among laggards: ANI listed HCL Tech, Asian Paints, HDFC Bank, Sun Pharma, and Infosys.
- Market breadth: Economic Times reported 1,745 advances, 1,846 declines, and 115 unchanged stocks on the NSE. This reported count shows that more stocks declined than advanced despite the positive benchmark close.
What did analysts say about the market outlook?
Ajit Mishra, SVP–Research at Religare Broking, called the move a strong recovery after the recent corrective trend. He also said easing crude from recent highs offered some relief on inflation concerns.
Rank #4
Mishra described the Nifty’s 22,650–22,800 zone as an immediate hurdle, followed by 23,000–23,200. This was a time-bound technical view, not a guaranteed forecast; he characterized the broader trend as cautious and favored selective, stock-specific opportunities over aggressive index exposure.
